The 1960 cup final ticket debacle took decades to get over. We have never recovered from the Kean nightmare.

As JH says, we could be staring down the barrel of mass non renewals. Only anecdotal, but the mood music on renewals I’m picking up from long standing fans worries me...

Then make it virtually free and be radical. Do anything and I mean virtually ANYTHING for publicity. It's either that or be a boring low profile club with the current league position and FUP.

Yes very worrying. David Lowe's famous pre-season fitness challenge is often talked about in a bit of a comedic tone by former players (see David Dunn's Undr The Cosh podcast on YouTube), but perhaps in 2020 it should be taken a little more seriously and there should be someone evaluating the actual quality of running in that way.

Considering Dunn's predictable failure as a manager what right has he got to mock other people's methods? Or anything related to fitness for that matter.

If Venkys stop funding the player wages then the club folds. That’s just life, sadly.

That should not stop any of us expecting to be treated as valued supporters. Nothing that ‘the club’ has done since Waggott arrived suggests that. (I expect you’ll dismiss it but do you remember when the club used to win Family Club of the Year awards, for instance?).

If the club hadn’t furloughed staff then it would be infinitely more acceptable as Blackburn people’s livelihoods would be dependent on it. But otherwise they have their cake and want to eat it too.

iFollow could be about to sign up to a lucrative deal to show Championship matches on a much wider scale. All clubs should stick together and insist that 2019/20 ST holders get those games they’ve paid for free. Doesn’t cost anything to anyone, meanwhile iFollow get an increase in market share. Wonder if they will do that?

Did in League 1 for what that's worth. Hardly surprising with the facilities compared to other clubs in that league who also don't have a room filled with games consoles. Staff were quick to self congratulate.

Honestly I've just stopped watching modern wrestling entirely. I still watch the odd Nitro or Raw from the 90s if I want something playing in the background that I don't have to pay much attention to, but wrestling without crowd reactions is just boring to me. I'm not sure I'll watch again until crowds are allowed back into the arenas.

Have to wonder how the crowed may have responded to Tyson/Jericho pull apart. As someone old enough to have watched the Tyson/Austin incident under similar circumstances it was always going to come across as a weaker imitation especially with no crowd. JR's commentary reflected that as well because it was almost impossible to capture the same intensity as that moment. Jericho's a star but he's not Austin. Tyson is noticeably calmer these days as well (even after his daughter's death) so there's slightly less of an aura there. Of course if you're gonna bring in Tyson it makes sense to have him involved in a confrontation. Perhaps he will be in a match and that will certainly get some publicity.

  5. ...and what about the clubs that had little financial choice in the matter? Of course Venkys probably wouldn't be included in that financial category but it's not like the staff are doing much so why not furlough them? The club has done absolutely zero to gain publicity in the current environment. For me it would be a good excuse to fire some of them and bring in some creative minds to shake things up.

Mowbray has been the most staunchly supported manager we’ve had for a long time. Rarely been a murmur against him in 3 years at Ewood, and we’ve seen some horrendous runs of form. He’d have been hounded at many other Championship clubs.

Ewood Park as a place that is ’Very fickle’,  a ‘tough environment’ that ‘quickly turns’ is just not true in the slightest.

Some people are scared of raising any form of dissent. The morons who tried to disrupt the Kean protests and drove many people away. Granted it's not comparable to that but people know that any form of protest would be treated with derision and threats of violence.

Lost all hope of the Women's game having any kind of integrity a few years back when they made up those new divisions based solely on reputation and money rather than who'd won the Divisions and the Cups. Abysmal from the people involved at board level there.

About as fair as UEFA. Man United and Liverpool are on the same page when it suits them. Liverpool actually outdoing United fans with their whining about FUP in recent months. Would rather see the season continue in some fashion though (as long as it's finished in 2020) so Liverpool can get closer to reclaiming the most titles record.

They were lucky that Rovers were meek enough to accept being robbed of promotion without taking it all the way to CAS and beyond.

Well yes that's a very separate discussion but absolutely a consideration. I don't think the Rao's are going to struggle big time financially, but I guess there's always a fear they could just cut us off. I don't think that looming possibility will ever go away though, that could happen at any time despite a worldwide pandemic. Scary to think about them walking away without writing that debt off.

Of course you can't trust anything they do but if they aren't gonna sell now when will they? If something happens to Balaji perhaps since he's rumoured to have been the one who wants to keep it? His son would appear to have an interest and perhaps would have a cleaner slate than the rest of the family.

Not to mention there was that story about an attempted kidnap on Venkatesh. That's something I would really like to know more about. I doubt 100% that had anything to do with Rovers fans. An opportunist who felt they were idiots and an easy target perhaps?

Hope he doesn't return to United.

Why go back to a club that deemed you not good enough?

What did you say when Greer went back to Rovers? Yes the situation had changed considerably at Ewood (and has to an extent at United) but he must have felt somewhat smug about the whole thing. One of my mottos is "never humble yourself" and that's what the club did by letting Greer return. Same reason I was opposed to any Beattie links including when club was still in EPL.

King's not good enough (for what they aspire towards) so hopefully will return there.

  10. They can build a modern stadium with some unique elements. Rangers have kept their main stand facade and the corner stairwells may look old but were only built 30 years ago.

The new San Siro (they will probably need a sponsor largely thanks to FUP if it isn't crushed by then) could rebuild those concrete towers within a modern design.

Football has never been this reliant on TV money.

If this would’ve happened 30 years ago the season would have long been postponed. This farce is only carrying on because the game is now totally in hock to television money, vast amounts of cash that goes straight back out of the game and into the pockets of players and agents. What should be the strongest, richest sport in the world is entirely built on sand.

...and the disparity in Tv money shows what a load of unworkable nonsense FUP is.

At the end of the day Troy Deeney is only human with a vulnerable child..

Which is why I'm an advocate of not signing players with a wife and kids. It could tie into my marketing proposals discussed lately. The type of person who just wants to "settle down with a wife and kids" isn't edgy.

  13. What about the financial sense in radical marketing approach? With FUP it makes sense to be "the most different" even if it's sometimes unconventional. What's the worst that could happen? Another year in L1 if the owners foot the bill? Who's to say those older players would have to be on big wages either. Young players who are prospects would probably have to be on big money for a period. You can sign players from abroad too they don't have to be from EPL or English.

Also if you win promotion with an aging squad (who might be past it or only peak Championship standard) just replace most of them straight away. Radical but possible. The club could still sign younger players but insist on having them sign "iron clad" contracts. Players couldn't be found under such conditions? Look harder. Of course that might contradict the "personality marketing" but allowing players more freedom (big personality or not) could be an attraction. Fazackerley and Parkes were here for years and the club stayed competitive (albeit in lower divisions) and if you find players like that with added marketing value it might just be the start of something bigger and different. "To dare is to do" but unlike Tottenham don't just claim it...do it.

We know what the club wants though and it's all the current marketing staff know hoe to be. To be this "sell on and develop" club with the boring family marketing rather than anything more edgy and daring. Even Millwall seem to take that approach given they have received "family club" awards lately as well. Now they could get away from that "bunch of thugs" image and still come up with something contemporary, urban and different. They are certainly more "inner city" which is an advantage though obviously the "working class white male" stereotype might not like it. Demographics change though including places like Bermondsey (they don't actually play in Millwall) so they might have to change with it but retain an edgier feel.

My personal view is genuinely that I'd rather see a home grown, young, hungry, energetic and entertaining side playing for a Play-Off spot in the Championship than a bunch of Bradley Johnson-esque 30 year olds scraping a promotion, to then play a dismal 38 game season in the PL losing week in week out. But that's why I find a lot of entertainment in Under 23's football and why I can admit I'm a bit of an odd one out.

PL football isn't the be all and end all for me personally. Abandoning the clubs new found philosophies so soon after their implementation would be a mistake. We've had the "experienced" side before. It doesn't always work, the wages are much MUGH higher for older players and they don't always live up to expectation. Danny Muprhy, Nuno Gomes, Paul Robinson - older just means higher transfer fee's, higher wages, bigger expectations and less longevity.

A back four of Sam Hart, Scott Wharton, Darragh Lenihan, Ryan Nyambe any day of the week over a back four of 30 year old Championship stalwarts past their prime on £20,000 a week pushing us into crippling debt.

So are most people on here willing to have players that could potentially move to Burnley (under current circumstances) than risk an aging squad? As you point out scraping promotion would likely be the problem following season. That's why it would be easier to have a "no stepping stone" policy as a midtable EPL club. People would say well where's the ambition to move higher? It's been stolen by those lowlifes in Zurich that's where it is. The club never had a great run in the Europa League so perhaps that's still "uncharted territory" but the CL? Leicester proved nothing is impossible but it's hardly a realistic aim is it? Radical marketing is the way to grow the club now and the same applies across the Championship.
