  1. Have to say that I think the standard of goalkeeping presently is the worst I have seen in my time watching football. We at Rovers have been blessed over the years/decades with some terrific keepers whose only job was to keep the ball out of the net. The likes of Jones, Bradshaw, Gennoe, Arnold, Flowers , Robinson, and of course Friedel. Kaminski also deserves a mention..

Now you are likely to see a keeper make a mistake or two in every game which ends up costing a goal.

What do people think, has the last 20 years or so seen standards drop ?

  2. Approach the game in the right way and we should win. I've watched Rovers for too many years to be certain of anything though.!

7 games coming up in December as well , so I would imagine JDT will have to think hard about rotating the squad over the coming weeks ( as much as the squad allows anyway)

Hopefully have Hyam, Gallagher and Pears back in the next couple of weeks to strengthen the squad.

Team for Wednesday assuming Wharton is out

                                 Leo

    Brittain.        Hill.          Carter.         Pickering

                      Tronstad.         Wharton

    Moran.          .  Szmodics.         Siggy

                               Dolan

  3. Think Tronstad is a perfect illustration of not writing players off too soon.  Even coming from a decent Dutch league you could see in his first couple of games the game was passing him by and JDT took him out of the side.

Now he is probably first name on the team sheet. We also now have Leo who is establishing himself and had a clean sheet yesterday, and Telalovic appears to be getting up to speed and scoring goals, albeit in the I321s at the moment.

I think both of these players will also prove to be solid signings for the club. I don't think we sometimes understand how difficult it can be for players moving from abroad to settle into new surroundings and produce their best

  4. A few more options now Carter and Pickering back. Was happy with Scott Wharton against PNE, thought he was mom. So maybe this ...

                              Leo

    Hill.           Carter.          S Wharton.       Pickering

                         Tronstad.     A Wharton

    Brittain.             Szmodics.          Siggy/ Dolan

                            Dolan/ Leonard

    yes you can.

If you say so 👍 You seem hell bent on dismissing a 15 year old lad playing his first game in a much older age group because, according ,to you he's not quick enough, when everybody else seems to have been really impressed with him

Knock yourself out if that's your philosophy

Premier clubs well aware of his talent, and for some reason he chose Rovers in the summer

Presumably because he knows his chances of progressing through the ranks are better at Rovers than premier League clubs. Our reputation for giving young players a chance has to have helped

I have never said he won't make it. I said premier league teams will not come in for him if he doesn't have pace. You quote the move for his goal. Did you see the one in the second half where he did exactly the same to his marker. He was easily caught before getting near to having a shot. By the way, what other players have done in their careers, has no bearing what-so-ever on how another player will turn out.

All I'm saying is give me a strikers "nouse" over simply being quick any day of the week

He showed great awareness of where the defenders were to flick that ball on to himself.

That you can't teach. At 15 he is only going to get bigger and stronger

If Tyjon can't improve his speed, I doubt if a premier league team will come calling.

Bit harsh to say because a lad at 15 , on first viewing seems to lack a bit of pace that he won't make it. Having looked at his goal again last night when he flicked the ball on, the defenders started to catch him only as he steadied himself to shoot. Plenty of strikers can make it without having pace (Sheringham for one) . Dack was never blessed with pace.

I think the lad has definitely got something

We've got 5 strikers at the club (1 being Vale out on loan), the manager doesn't play any of them, although I suspect Gallagher would have played the majority of games if he was fit.

Any thoughts of bringing in a striker in January will be way wide of the mark. Gallagher the senior/experienced striker (when/if fit) and Telalovic, Leonard and Ennis to keep gaining experience/developing (if JDT ever plays them) with a view of shifting for some profit down the line.

Chances of bringing in a Billy Sharpe type (I'm not saying we should be signing Billy Sharpe, just an example name), to come in and "block pathways" are basically non-existent.

The only way we bring a striker in is if Gallagher is sold. With Szmodics having the season of his life (so far) and being amazingly top of the goals scoring charts, I'm sure GB will say there's no need .

Really not sure where we would look to recruit in January tbh. Apparently left back not being locked at either.

    NB

Just starting to get over Friday night, too gutted to comment at the time.

Thought a draw would have been a fair result, considering the injuries we had ,thought we coped really well.

Special word for Scott Wharton, who looked somewhere back to his best, and Travis, who gave it absolutely everything despite being hampered with a knock thoe last 1/2 hour or so

I think bringing Buckley back makes sense. But also probably midfield is our best covered position - Travis and Garrett ready to come in - so it doesn't necessarily solve the biggest problem.

The big issue will more be right/left back as JRC could cover right back and allow Brittain to move to left back as needed if Pickering was not available. With him now gone we are basically down to Brittain and Pickering staying fit and available through to January. I guess Buckley has played right back, but he lacks the athleticism and positional discipline needed to make a proper go at it imo. And for whatever reason Batty does not seem favoured, not even getting anywhere near the bench.

Hill can always move back to right back once Carter and Hyam are back, but Hyams injury seems to have been kept very quiet.

surely we will line up like this. No other choice really except maybe Travis in the middle  or Siggy on the left, but Dolan and Trondstad deserve to keep their places.

                          Leonard

    Dolan.           Szmodics                 Moran

                    Wharton.          Trondstad

    pickering.   Wharton.  Hill.      Brittain

                              Whalstedt

Sigurdsson on the left, Dolan up top for Leonard for me.

He's done really well last few games
