People are going to discuss players as they go, its not this rash and misery induced negativity that it is made out to be. The key is if and when that player improves, which doesnt always happen, that people acknowledge the improvement. Now Szmodics is showered with praise and seen as a key player.

I think it's more that in discussing players too soon, some posters - or maybe one in particular - start trying to build a bandwagon that the person seen to be responsible for their signing should be dismissed.

I wasn't really referring to the last year or two, but was going back to 2018-2021. I was told, by many on here, that our choice of path was absolutely the right one, completely sensible and sustainable and it would ensure that we would be in a strong position down the line, blessed with assets of value and in no trouble with FFP rules.

Fast forward and that simply didn't happen. Most of the assets we had we lost for nothing, and I am also being asked to accept that selling off Brockhall to a different company was a necessary and proportionate measure to ensure we steered clear of trouble.

I was also told back in 2018-19 that all these other clubs going out spending millions and paying big money were headed for an iceberg with FFP because it would catch up with them. Well it didn't, as the number of punishments handed out has shown. Nor have those clubs been forced into selling off land or facilities to comply or are claiming 'geopolitics' forcing budgets to be slashed.

Of course you are right. They have all sold players as is reality of life in the Championship. We did it too with Armstrong but that doesn't appear to have achieved anything, as we didn't reinvest at the time and still sold Brockhall.

I agree, hopefully moving forward with GB it will be different, but last time around it was supposed to be different and in the end it wasn't.

I tend to believe that the reason the earlier mentioned clubs have avoided any issues is because they are all owned by local supporters, genuine well meaning businessmen who are determined to try and be successful for their clubs - Gibson, Coates, Lansdown. Whereas ours, well, I think it is fair to say are not.

This is not completely correct. Stoke did sell their ground to their owners to comply with FFP.

Very comfortable so far, surprised how poor Scotland have been tbf. Particularly when you consider how well they’ve done in qualifying!

Perhaps we are the first team they've played recently who are good enough to make them look poor.

Have you even thought, that it may have been a tongue in cheek comment. A sense of humour can be helpful.

Yes but the player at whom it was aimed gets so much unpleasant abuse, like getting booed by so called supporters, that I doubt it was tongue in cheek.

i see Magurie is not starting he obviously cant manage two games in a week

There are several other players from the starting line up against Ukraine who are not starting tonight so I don't see how you have arrived at that conclusion.

to liquidate watever possible to recoup money , then sell the skeleton brfc name brand club. In the meantime do whatever necessary so we don't get promoted

Given that the additional TV revenues that accrue from being in the Premier League are worth far more than any club assets that could be liquidated why would he want to prevent us being promoted if the objective is to recoup money ?

That manager should be apologising to Harrogate fans for his decision to make 9 changes because they "have an important game on Saturday." Biggest team they've ever played and he puts out a League 2 reserve team! He blew it.

They were pitifully bad, we practically walked through their defence.

Delighted for the young lads but really, have we ever played a worse side?

The manager should be safe though. His father owns the club.

Can’t wait for the Kompany love in to end. Spent a shit ton of money to win a weak league last year.

So naive to set up like this against City (just like in FA cup last year). They’ll be lucky to get 25 points playing like this.

Hardly. They are not going to be up against the best club team in the world, and the best goal scorer in the world, every week.

Well QPR had barely half that last season i think so home turnout not too dissimilar.

c9k ST holders v c7.5k last season will have helped and the 20 quid off early bird will have helped that proving discounts do work here.

First game of the season though so lets not get too carried away.

People get carried away in the opposite direction so I think the optimists who remain here can do so as well.
