  1. It's insane, we have a CEO who blatantly does not care about the Club in the slightest.

He lies, strips the Club of it's assets, hires all of his useless buddies, gives himself huge pay rises, rinses loyal supporters... yet he's completely untouchable.

We need him gone, but the only people able to make that happen are even worse, and somehow care even less than he does.

It's insane the things that we fans have had to put up with... mad things that would simply never happen at other Clubs are the norm here. I genuinely believe we're cursed at times!

  2. So Nicko teases some ‘very positive’ news to us for days…

What could it be? Warchest? Waggott being sacked? Good freebie all but signed? How exciting…

Well it turns out, that we just want to loan a youngster from Palace, who we’ll probably miss out on. Or the ‘very positive’ news could be the fact that Man U are trying to pluck from our academy, yet the player might not want to go (but probably will).

What a wanker that bloke is.

I’m not really following here. For clarity, we weren’t given any assurances that all money generated would be put back into transfers.

This is purely my opinion, but…

We have been hampered by FFP/P&S rules in recent years. Yes, we have contributed to our own downfall in this regard with failure to properly protect playing assets and losing them on a free rather than generating a fee, but we’ve more or less operated on the cusp of the FFP threshold for a rolling 3 year period since we got back into the Championship.

If we had really “gone for it” and failed, we’d then have to basically pay for it the following season or two (expect to see Hull do this over the next 2 years). it’s a risky strategy, and the current board are very risk averse. Avoiding sanctions is massively high on the agenda.

Through a mix of factors, we’ve generated a lot of additional funds this year. We’ve obviously needed to use the cash for the ongoing running of the club, but what it has done is put us on a good P&S footing ahead of time. This makes “going for it” a lot less risky - forgetting the cash situation, we have enough leeway in the accounts to increase the wage budget over the next few years and to add significant transfer expenditure to the balance sheet.

If Venky’s don’t have the permission to remit funds to us for the forseeable, this won’t happen as the money we do have and are scheduled to receive will just go into running costs - like practically all Championship teams we operate at a loss ordinarily. If Venky’s don’t have the inclination to remit funds for us to fund a push, then the same applies.

I’d hope that conversations have happened to highlight that there is currently a window of opportunity to actually progress.

They have previously had to provide a breakdown, the basic idea appears to be to show that the funds are not leaving the country and are going in roughly the right direction. There isn’t anything to say they can only use these funds for certain expenses. While the last lot specified things like PAYE and HMTC commitments there wouldn’t be anything to stop them adding any other expenses on there, ie transfer fees.

Good post. How much do you expect them to spend this window?

Of course, nobody really knows, but as someone with better insight than most i'm curious as to what you think.

I actually dread to think where will be in 2 years time to be honest.

I think the club is in serious trouble right now and will be very surprised if something major doesn't happen between now and Christmas, that put's the very future of BRFC in jeopardy.

    Agreed.

If I could have a look 2 years into the future, I wouldn't be one bit surprised to see us struggling in League One.

We need 2 strikers... if this can be the cheap backup, then i'm all for it. Big lad, apparently a good finisher, only 24.

However, I fully expect these muppets to only sign 1 striker, in which case we need to be shopping a couple of levels above this.

  6. There are actually some really good free agents coming (or already) available, some will require a decent wage which will probably rule us out... but there are plenty i'd take that'd make a huge difference to our squad without paying transfer fees.

    To name a few...
    Josh Bowler
    Sorba Thomas
    Max Lowe
    Wes Foderingham
    Herbie Kane
    Aaron Connolly
    Tyrese Campbell
    Paddy McNair
    Chris Willock
    Sam McCallum
    Jake Cooper
    Josh Onomah

Aaron Connelly is a must sign for me this window, would be a class above what we have up top.

    Would fully agree, however...

He's been on over £20k a week at Hull... highly doubt he'd be willing to take a huge wage cut to come here.

He'll end up somewhere that will give him around the same as Hull, clubs like Middlesbrough/Norwich/Watford spring to mind.

Be ridiculous if it is Gestede.

Why would a prospective DOF have to shadow people at the club?

This is the thing isn't it, things like this don't happen outside of Blackburn Rovers.

Waggott and the Venky's don't care about quality or inexperience, they care that he'll be cheap - we'd essentially be giving him work experience, in the 2nd highest division in the English football pyramid.

  9. Does McGuire have too much genuine bitterness towards the Club? Who knows!

I personally get the impression that this is maybe just his agent advising him appropriately, since 'what happened' gives him the upper hand when/if they come to negotiating his salary.

I could be wrong of course, in which case, they should leave it be.

Also - considering the fact that he's on about 1k a week right now, I wonder what he'd consider to be "a lot of money"?

We might have originally offered him 7/8k a week, but maybe now it'd have to become ~10k?

I wonder if Eustace will be interested in any of the Brum players, having been their manager less than 12 months ago?

Do any of them fit the bill for what we need?

Oh he definitely will, and some of them certainly fit the bill for what we need... but not the ones he'll be going for, sadly.

Whilst i'd welcome the likes of Miyoshi, Dembele, James, Bacuna and Laird with open arms... it's more likely the case that he'll be looking to recruit players like Jutkiewicz, Pritchard, and of course Ruddy.
