This is the start of the statement (my emboldening) announcing JDT joining (6 days after GB did)…

After an exhaustive selection process over recent weeks, which included first and second stage interviews with the shortlisted candidates, Jon became the club’s preferred choice and arrives at Rovers having led Swedish side Malmo FF to back-to-back league titles.’

Are we to assume JDT was a shortlisted candidate and therefore identified prior to GB’s arrival or

GB joined and immediately through the shortlist in the bin?

My money is on the latter.

You would hope so, that would be the right way round.

Pretty sure I remember reading that JDT wasn't even in the running until Broughton was brought in.   If that is true then JDT seems to be very much a GB appointment/choice

That's how I remember it,Waggot appointed the man, who then appointed the man.

If those numbers are correct it'll be a good crowd and atmosphere. Bigger crowd than moat league games! Closer to 17k by KO on Monday.

No idea what the score would be, but probably a classic high scoring cup game. Hoping for an Adam Wharton assist or two too...

Be interesting to see if he plays, although I personally think he will.

Don't know, hard to tell, looked  as if Pickering reacted to Helik's run when he realised Helik was unmarked.

I was more making the point that if he was marking him, then it would be disastrous planning in the first place.

Yet again taking my comments completely out of context.

It's not JDT's fault primarily either is it, as he's had the rug pulled from under him and had less than nothing to work with but even he is a little bit to blame for refusing to alter his tactics and dig in a bit wouldn't you say?

Like I say a wide combination of different factors which you can broadly class as shite management over a large number of years ultimately leading back to the owners as they have the final say as to what goes on at the Club and who are also directly responsible for the current funding issues.

Mowbray's squad finished 8th, then 7th last season under Tomasson ,with only Hyam contributing on a regular basis. Other than Hyam and to a lesser extent Szmodics, it was the squad Tomasson inherited which did so well.

It's the subsequent transfer dealings which have let the squad down, and it has to be said, really bad luck with injuries. Even now we're massively reliant on Mowbray's players and the academy, we really shouldn't be missing Dolan and Hedges so much after all this time.

The recruitment since Mowbray left has been really poor.

Brereton, who we then subsequently turned down an £8m bid for which you fully supported. A decision solely on the owners.

He had just sold Armstrong a year prior for 8 figures. We also had Rothwell for whom we turned down £4m for, again down to the owners.

How much of this went back into the playing squad? Zilch.

And how many of the remaining had we actually paid a fee for? Kaminski who went for a profit. Gallagher, admittedly a poor signing but Armstrong, Gallagher and Brereton for a combined 15m generated a bucket full of conbined goals and had the owners not intervened, it would have been a profit. Pickering, small fee. Most of the others were players that he had brought through from the academy.

Hyam apart and maybe Szmodics made a contribution last season, other than that it was the squad Tomasson inherited that finished 7th.

I don't claim to be ITK. I'm not regarding transfers etc. However, I do have contacts  around Brockhall.

JDT has totally lost the dressing room. He can only manage kids as the more experienced members of the squad won't listen to him. Travis was causing him issues around the place by questioning his tactics and selection. The squad are on the side of Travis and have downed tools.

Well if that's the case, please would you get a message back to them and tell them they're playing for everyone who turns up on Saturday. It would be nice of them to actually turn up themselves now and again.

If they can't be arsed, tell them to let us know in advance so we don't need to bother.

  8. There was a clamour by quite a few for Pears to be dropped in favour of Wahlstedt, and during that period the microscopes were definitely out. Yes he made mistakes, but some of the criticism was just ridiculous.

The difference since Wahlstedt has come in is that you don't have to look past the first shot or corner, he's been responsible for the first goal in the last 6 games. We're a goal down before we start.

Shocking performance today from both players and coach - there can be no excuses for professionals turning in such a woefully inept performance.  JDT seems unable to set up a team that can defend and today too many players seemed to have thrown in the towel.

Leo had another nightmare and needs pulling out of the firing line.  At the moment he is not a Championship goalkeeper and it remains to be seen if he ever will be good enough.

The back four - made up of some of our more experienced players - was a complete and utter shambles.  Brittain again showed that defensively he leaves a lot to be desired.  For me, he is a downgrade on Nyambe in terms of being a sound defender.  Hyam doesn't look fit and this is impacting on his game.  He certainly isn't a leader as a captain and looked totally lost at times today as Thomas-Asante had him chasing shadows for most of the afternoon.  Carter drifted out of position too much in the first-half when playing as a right-back whilst Scott Wharton was not at his best and, again, one wonders if he is fully fit.

Tronstad, although not at his best tried to keep things together whilst Garrett was our best performer on the day and surely deserves a run in the team.  I thought Gallagher put a shift in when he came on and put defenders under pressure in a way that Leonard hadn't been able to do.  On the evidence of his second-half display he still looks far better than another other striker we have.

As for JDT he looked completely broken on the bench and never moved during the second-half.  For me there seems to be a serious disconnect between Broughton and JDT.  The coach continues to plead for experienced players whilst Broughton continues to bring in youngsters who JDT refuses to pick.  Ennis not involved, Telalovic on the bench together with the latest two young arrivals.

JDT continues to stick to a 4-2-3-1 system that is not working with the players he has fit and available for selection.  He needs to change and find a way of making us more solid.  For the first time today I heard a number of fans wanting him gone - which is not a good sign amongst those who travel away regularly.

Nail on the head regarding Gally, he is by far our best forward, yet some can't wait to get rid of him, it's quite the dilemma.

Obviously, it's the old injury situation which is the problem, but just how do you replace Gallagher with £1.5 million? The answer is, you don't.

I'd be more inclined to give him a contract extension, than let him go for next to nothing which Tomasson probably wouldn't see anyway.

Fantastic football? If you count football that results in 2+ goals conceded every game as fantastic you do you I guess. Give me a well fought 1-0 over this any day of the week.

But that isn't his remit is it? I couldn't care less if he goes tomorrow, I'm just seeing it for what it is.

You can wish for a Neil Warnock all you want, but it isn't going to happen. The next bloke would be tasked with developing young players the same as Tomasson.

What I'm saying is that at least we have seen some good stuff and goals when he's had the players at his disposal. I'd rather stick with him for now personally.

    Who would you get in?

  11. To be fair to Tomasson, we have been decimated by injuries, and the Dolan injury was the one which broke the camel's back, along with Pears.

In my opinion, the last thing we need is a change of head coach after some of the fantastic football we've seen this season. Give Tomasson a front 4 of Szmodics, Siggurdson, Dolan and Gallagher to use and we'd give virtually any team in this division a game.

Whoever came in would face the same situation, yet we know Tomasson can get a tune out of them when he has more players at his disposal.

This isn't going to be a magic wand job.

And why is it we're better with Gallagher in?

See stats like this banded about all the time, but he's not the reason for that stat is he.

Don't know about better, but apparently we  were more likely to win with him in the team than with him not in the team. I suppose you can accept the fact or ignore it.

I think the first to come out with it was Rich Sharpe,he was certainly the first person I read.

    No, I absolutely don't 😂
And I didn't say he was 'brilliant' against Watford - somebody had suggested that he had no redeeming features and I used that game (pre-Watford-goals) to point out that he'd played well, which anyone with actual eyes could see that he had.

Leo (yes, easier to type than his surname) has dropped some absolute amateur-level clangers, like Huddersfield away and the 2 Watford home goals from the top of my head.

But I've seen enough from both GKs for it to be blatantly obvious to me that he's still streets ahead of Pears and has a much higher ceiling.
Jumping on a young GK when he makes some mistakes isn't going to help anyone, is it?

There was the first goal at Southampton from the corner, the first goal against Rotherham and arguably the first goal, near post against Hull, on top of the ones(both first goals) that you've mentioned.

That's been his main problem, if he'd been responsible for "unimportant" goals, it wouldn't have been as bad, but his mistakes have left the team with an uphill struggle in the last 5 games.

I very much doubt we'll try to outplay you,  I very much doubt anyone sees that working against Championship quality.

More than likely we will be direct into Palmer, Fletcher or Dalby, whoever plays with Mullin (assuming we haven't signed another striker by then) or over the top / down the channels for Mullin etc to run onto. We'll look to win throw ins near your box for Tozer's long throw. We're pretty good at set pieces with McClean in the side.

Where we struggle is against teams who have a high press and are good at it, lots of teams try the high press but few are very good at it at our level. Also we struggle against pace, particularly running at our back three who aren't the quickest (Bar Hayden) and that's usually how we concede.

Our GK Arthur Okonkwo, who is on loan from Arsenal, is a giant too and looks like the real deal. I'd be well chuffed if we could sign him permanently.

Watch the goals for and against from the Cambridge game, and it's pretty much Rovers in a nutshell.

…….. £10 a ticket, (max) or they probably will have more.

    It's plenty,and just about right.

Forget who it is, (not that they're anybody), and it's a league 2 club at home in the 4th round.
