Hedge and Forshaw are decent Championship squad players. Ismael will know his budget and will know how little there is to work with. Of course he wants them to stay, the alternatives could be much worse.

Lots can happen between now and the transfer window shutting at the end of August. We could have sold Trav and Tron by then, and anyone else who’s contract is up in the next 12 months. There are no guarantees we’ll replace them if they do go. We don’t really know enough about the manager yet either to have any confidence he’ll do well next season.

I watched a bit of that interview posted above. Gestede’s comments about not investing in Jan cos it wasn’t the plan to get promoted are utter lunacy. He comes across as a really dumb bloke trying to be a smart arse.

He’s clearly not lost without Batth as he was excellent in his first season at the club, and excellent at Cov. In the last few moths he’s started to regain that form and looks a lot sharper. Sometimes injuries and loss of confidence have a huge impact. It’s silly to write him off.

IIRC Ismael has said the forward line is the priority and that he wants quick players up there. So perhaps new first choice LW RW and CF? I actually think the rest of the team is of decent Championship quality. Possible other additions:- A new RB to provide cover for Brittain. A new number 10 to challenge an underwhelming Cantwell. A GK to replace Pears. If Buckley and JRC are leaving we need another CM (I’d re-sign Forshaw, he’s a lot better than has been made out) I’d re-sign Batth who has been excellent. I’d also be tempted to get another experienced CB. Worth their weight in gold! LB we’re looking good. CM of Travis and Tron is one of best combo’s in the division.

For your first example, Ahmedhodzic wasn’t Hyam’s man according to Jackson. This perhaps calls into question the validity of the rest of your examples.

Hyam’s looked a lot better recently. He looks sharper and quicker. Think he was badly affected by injury and loss of confidence. Him and DB have been a good combo
