  1. Old Roose never detains himself with the fairer sex. See, rape, leave.
  2. I'm still unsure if she is indeed a hotter, more interesting version of Jeyne Westerling (her reluctance to go to The Crag might suggest this) or if she is indeed an entirely new character. In the latter case, I don't see the point.
  3. Prometheus, in spite of the lukewarm reviews, is actually good. It's not a prequel to Alien per se (though it exists in the same universe and is set prior to that film) but it is an interesting story nonetheless. Fassbender is mesmerising.
  4. This season has strayed quite far from A Clash of Kings. Sensibly so in some instances (they've certainly cut out a lot and had characters end up in the place it takes them half a book to end up in anyway) and irritatingly so in others (in the scenes in Harrenhal they've been referring to 'The Brotherhood' without actually explaining what it is - the band of soldiers led by Lord Beric Dondarrion and dispatched by Sean Bean in season one to bring in Ser Gregor Clegane) A third season has been greenlit but that will only cover half a book.
  5. It's ok. As you say both leads are very watchable.
  6. The Raid is just about the most exciting film you'll see all year. Incredible.
  7. On Tuesday nights the big cinema in the centre of Belfast prices all its films (including those in 3D) at £3.00. Can't be bad to that.
  8. Hugely entertaining, I really enjoyed it. The plot is a little confusing (what does Loki want exactly?) but it's absolutely brilliant fun.
  9. Any fans of post-rock here? Currently very into a Texan crowd called This Will Destroy You. They produce atmospheric, spine-tingling instrumental stuff, very much in the mould of fellow Texans Explosions In The Sky. Can't recommend highly enough. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_kDWV91CD0
  10. So I've got to the end of A Song of Ice and Fire (as it currently stands) and I'm blown away by the scale and scope of it. SPOILERS - BEWARE So much remains uncovered (including any meaningful appearance by the compelling, terrifying Others). As I far as I can discern, the outstanding issues for future novels (those plot points that were left hanging or completely unexplored in A Dance With Dragons) are, and in no particular order: - Jon Snow's fate. - Jon Snow's parentage. There are various theories listed here - I tend to buy into the fact that he is indeed a Stark... - Benjen Stark's fate. - Baelish's plans for Sansa Stark. - The identity of 'Ser Robert Strong'. - Samwell Tarly's progress in Oldtown. - The fate of Maester Marwyn (who p*ssed off as soon as Sam arrived at The Citadel). - The identity, and indeed motivation, of the alchemist who appeared in the prologue of A Feast For Crows. - The apparent anomaly of the character seemingly killed in said prologue, popping up again in Samwell's last chapter. The main theory relating to that is particularly convincing. I'm sure more will occur to me.
  11. Ridley Scott claims it isn't an Alien prequel. It clearly is.
  12. It was. It was created by the guy responsible for Watchmen.
  13. Wolves do attack people from time to time. Click.
  14. Thor was fairly well received critically and made just under $450m. A sequel will be out next year.
  15. Loved both Thor and Captain America. The latter in particular was brilliant fun.
  16. The first was pish. I've heard this is worse.
  17. It had poisonous reviews. Shows that reviewers are just people with different tastes.
  18. Oh and I also learned who killed Jon Arryn early on though at my current point in the above mentioned title, that's becoming increasingly obvious.
  19. Got to the 'Red Wedding' bit in A Storm of Swords: Blood and Gold a few days back. I guessed the fate of one character but not the other... Crikey. A tip for all those reading these ASOIAF books. Try and resist the urge to look up things online to clarify a plot point/to help with your understanding of a character. I've inadvertently learned of the demise of at least two characters doing this. :-(
  20. Depression? Terminal illness?
  21. Unbelievable. It puts the shenanigans at Ewood into perspective.
  22. Aye I'd be a Stark man too but the Baratheons have cojones and their sigil and words kick ass. Their penchant for antlers on their helms is pretty compelling too. I've just started into part 2 of book 3 for the avoidance of any spoilers... ;-)

  23. It's the first music I've heard in a long time where you can literally listen to each album (such as they are) over and over. Stick either onto your iPod, plug in and let it wash over you. Absolutely incredible.
  24. As my username suggests, I'm Matthew. I was born in rural County Down to an Irish father and Welsh mother. I was raised just outside Belfast where I now live. I gained my LL.B at Queen's. I received my professional qualification from that institution also, in September 2010, having worked in and trained with a large high street firm in Belfast from 2005 until 2010. I was enrolled as a solicitor of the Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland in December 2010. I worked for a further six months very recently - in a different firm - on the largest litigation in the UK however this almost killed me and I'm now back at Queen's for a third stint, studying for my MSSc in Criminal Justice. I've been a Rovers fan since 1993 and I have greatly enjoyed the glorious ups and the brief downs. I am now greatly concerned with the direction in which the club is headed. My favourite players of all time (Rovers included) are Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, Tugay, Mark Atkins and Henrik Larsson. I've been a member of this site since July 2001 and post on a regular basis. Personally I love playing football, watching football and the NFL, travelling to France and to the US and socialising with my friends and family.
