Yeh like I say I'm not knocking the guy, just answering the point that was made. There are no guarantees in this game and every chance he is the man to do it for us. His CV is nothing to sniff at and I wouldn't refuse to get him in by any means. I see the logic with him being given a short deal with him being like he is, and moved on relatively cheaply if it doesn't work out. However, I'm wary of short termism with the next appointment in a general sense, as currently we need a big rebuild that will affect our fate for years to come. Putting a man with a short term objective is great if that objective is met, and beats the laborious Mowbray journey for excitement but it's no good if we don't go up and he leaves with another huge rebuild needed and no money (which is sadly where Mowbray's crappy journey got us). I'd like an approach that is the best of both worlds. Bold, and searching for quality on the budget we will inevitably given, but players that can mostly improve as the years go on and aren't here for just a couple of years of payday at the end of their careers. I know it's much easier said than done, especially on a budget, but there are managers who have done it and blended short term success with long term. The main question marks with Carvalhal are that he hasn't achieved promotion from this league yet, and that he hasn't worked at this level with a tiny budget like he will probably get here. But I think it's an appointment that in theory stands above the vast majority of Venkys ones, so I'd take it. There will be some question marks over any manager who is willing to come here of course, or they wouldn't be willing to come here as they'd have top tier jobs. Carvalhal is far better than most on the lists we've seen!

Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?

According to the LT, who have stated it on a few occasions now, we are indeed precisely that moronic. Not that the percentage is confirmed to be 20%. They have said it's a lot less significant than the Armstrong sell-on. But since that was 40% of profit, I'd say it still could be anything up to 20%. At a guess I'd say it's in the 10-20% region, purely from assuming based on how the LT have spoken about it. -
The first two had achieved full on automatic promotion to the Prem before managing us, and still couldn't take us to the playoffs (not that Lambert was here long enough). So with a worse record, the logic doesn't suggest Carvalhal would do any better. Coyle had gained promotion too and he was trash. Bowyer was an unknown quantity as it was his first gig. Note I'm not saying Carvalhal won't be the right man. Just his CV in this league is worse than some of those who have previously failed, so I can see why some might not be that impressed.

Yeh it wasn't on the day we won, it was a bit later, don't recall when. I would have been 10, and I was gutted my parents went but couldn't get another ticket so I had to stay home. Watched with my auntie, uncle and grandma, who all thoroughly failed to understand at first that we had won the league even though we lost the match. Once I made them understand we all celebrated wildly lol

Fantasy land. More realistic outcome is BBD is sold late in the window for about 15-20 million, and the new manager gets about 3 million to spend getting us up. Then by March or whenever, we are still hearing we might fail FFP. -

These underfancied, underfunded teams often return to expected levels the next season. See Barnsley. If they're smart, Luton players will know their stock might not get any higher and use their moment in the sun for a better move. And yes, we almost certainly pay more than Luton. -

Ahh yes, 'nobody knows' - the basis of all solid transfer policies. -
I hope the next manager isn't happy to sign players that won't move closer to the club and prefer to commute stupid distances at the cost of their energy and fitness. I don't remember this ever happening on this scale before, usually just the odd player. Since Mowbray was also doing it himself, he probably had no issue with it. It's far from ideal for the manager but certainly shouldn't be happening with the lads who actually have to run every day. If you want to work here you really shouldn't be living more than say, an hour away within a few months of signing. If that's not good enough we shouldn't sign you (exceptions to every rule of course).

Umm..we pretty much always have at least one, usually more like 2 or 3, games against opposition of about that level. Even when we were in the Prem we would play some teams of a lower level. Usually we have one or two 'prestige' friendlies against higher or similar level opposition (like the Celtic one) and the rest are weaker. Is this your first time paying attention to a preseason friendly programme?

Hmm I dunno, we finished 8th in the league, 8th best away supporters...the correlation must be causation, the supporters are to blame! 1st or 2nd best away fans next year and we are golden!
