  1. This is an argument that no-one can win as it’s all so subjective. How can you possible gage whether one band is better than another ? Is it simply down to sales figures ? Having said that, Doves are the best band in the world. Ever !
  2. Sure can. As yet I've not been asked to move my seat - back row, right underneath the scoreboard ;-)
  3. Sad to say that none of this surprises me. You can hear this type of racist bile every home match in the Darwen End. The only difference today appears to be that these 'people' involved don't appear to have evolved beyond the ability to simply grunt and wave their arms about. Anyone thinking that this is an isolated incident is deluded themselves.
  4. Voted for Meccy 'cause he grew up and played with my Dad at Rovers. Proper Blackburn lad.
  5. Indeed but he was even worse than useless at ch v Sheff Wed. Yep, his full debut. I think I'm right in saying that his first and last starts for the club were the only ones in his preferred position. However, in-between..........well, it's already been said.
  6. Patrick Anderson played centre half for us. Not with Hendry and Moran playing in the same side he didn't. Maybe this is why the move didn't work out ? He obviously went on to be a great success as a centre back elsewhere, but of the 9 or so games he started for Rovers, only two of those were the back. All the others were as a midfielder.
  7. As has already been mentioned, Colin's put forward a tremendous case for the inclusion of Mark Atkins into this Rovers Pantheon, however, I just want to counter that : Atkins had been at the club three years prior to the arrival of Dalglish and in the two years previous he had lost his place at right-back on a number of occasions, notably, to Mick Duxbury, Bob Dewhurst, Neil Oliver and I'm pretty sure that even Nicky Reid played there at some stage. Nicky Reid !!!!! It should also be noted that it was Tony Parkes who first moved Atkins to a midfield position and not King Kenny. Atkins played there in each of his first 5 games in care-taker charge post MacKay, whilst Parkes favored Duxbury/Brown at full back. Dalglish did stick with him in that role for a while, but judging by the fact that he signed Cowans and Sherwood later on that season he was not convinced. In the next couple of season's Atkin's role was restricted to that of squad player. He did start off the inaugural Premiership season with the number 8 shirt but soon lost out to Cowans again, and had the Patrick Andersson move worked out his appearances would have been even more fleeting. Batty arrival the following year squeezed Atkins out even further, and had it not been for his injury the season after, who knows what would have become of Premiership winner Mark Atkins. I'm not trying to denounce or belittle any of Atkins achievements at the club. In-fact I think it's great testament to the man that a player of Batty's caliber was not missed during the Championship winning season because of Marks performances. All I'm trying to do is place a bit of reality alongside this romantic notion of 'Super Atko' that seems to be floating around this thread. Vote Simon Barker !
  8. Left winger? Scott Sellars was definitely first and foremost a left winger for Rovers unless my memory is playing tricks on me. When Scott was signed in '86 - incidentally, for a ridiculously low fee of 25 thousand pounds. Well done Bob Saxton - he played initially as a central midfielder alongside the excellent Simon Barker. The wing positions were taken by Brotherston, Mark Patterson and, on the right hand side, Ian Miller. I have a feeling that he did drift further out to the touchline though when Branagan or Ainscow were drafted in.
  9. Also played at centre back a few times if I remember correctly but I'd suggest his biggest contribution to Rovers was a central midfielder and as such should be included in the vote for that position. Didn't he often deputise when Batty was injured? Atkins was initially bought as a right back to replace the departed Chris Price and did play the majority, if not all, his games there until Dalglish arrived. Atkins 'deputised' for Batty in the midfield on 30+ occasions during the Championship winning season. Batty had been injured and was only involved in the last 6 games of that campaign. Such was Atkins in-pact that year, or Batty's embarrassment, that Batty handed over the winners medal presented to him at Anfield to the non-involved Mark Atkins.
  10. Correct 92er. Noel took up permanent residence on the left wing during the 81-82 season after the arrival of Ian Miller. You are also correct to assume that his career at Rovers did overlap with that of Dave Wagstaffe. However, they only really played one full season together in the same side - that being 77-78 - and for a number of those matches I'm of the impression that Wagstaffe made way for Gordon Taylor on the left wing whilst he took up a more central striking position.
  11. Le Saux was great at going forward but I always felt that the job description for full-backs included defending as well. I'm not too sure that Greame was the greatest in that department. At that time, I always felt that Alan Wright was the better player of the two. Having said that, he suffered from the same problem. Better going forward than defending. Basil for me. Proper defender ! Who can forget the time he stood on the ball versus Man Utd. Classic.
  12. Don't lay the blame on poor Des. It wasn't him. If I remember correctly it was a bloke called Wayne Collins - he went on to play for Blackpool. As for the top Custodian. It has to be TG. Great keeper. Plus he used to give me a lift home from matches
  13. It was a side foot from 6 yards out ! Still, although not the winner, I agree that it was an important goal. re McKinnon. Great shout. He could join the rest of my 'pantheon' of heroes, including, Tony Dobson, Nicky Reid, Andy Morrison and Chris Sulley.
  14. On the pitch......spineless !!!! David Dunn where is your head at ?? Off the pitch......I've never heard such racist bile and bigoted sh*te in my entire life by fellow Rovers 'fans'. Just as clueless as the muppets on the pitch. Also off.....but sadly on the pitch.....what was that pr*@k in the Rangers shirt trying to achieve !!!! All in all a very bleak day for the Rovers. Sort it out Souey !
  15. Just got back after a very good night out in Glasgow City Centre and having read the majority of the post's regarding last nights match I have to agree. The atmosphere within the ground was quite disappointing. However, I must counter this by saying that having built something up so much, it was perhaps inevitable that anything other than, '...the Second Coming.....' was going to be a let down. That said, all the Celtic fans I met prior to the match were extremely accommodating and went out of there way to help us. I am forever in the debt of the 3 'Celts' who bundled me into their taxi and took me to the ground. They refused any offer of money for the journey and even took me to their pre-match watering hole, 'Lynn's Bar' - incidently,a busier pub I have nver seen in my life. A great bunch of fans and I look forward to returning their generosity at Ewood in two weeks. Anyway, I enjoyed my self and so what if 'we was robbed !' Arsenal fans up and down the country are probably saying the same thing after our win at Highbury. The difference being that we have another game to look forward to when we have the chance to redeem the situation.
