  1. He's gonna get paid off anyway , Producer , at the end of the season when we're in the Nationwide ! we might as well pay him NOW and still have a (slim) chance of staying up .
  2. A dead man managing a team of zombies..... Sounds familiar . Uday for Souness.
  3. We'll be even more skint when we go down - and won't we have to pay him off if he gets sacked at the end of the season (or will that be the point when he loses his pride)? Or do you seriously suggest that we keep him on next season in the Nationwide ? That'll do us wonders at the season ticket office . No . Saturday should be the deadline for Souness . If he can't inspire the players , then get rid .
  4. Definitely not having a go at Williams or the board , Percy ; their position is unenviable to say the least . I'm just hoping and praying that contingency plans are being made for if we lose on Saturday . Souness's position will be untenable then and I just hope Williams will be able to dangle a straw for us to clutch at....
  5. I doubt he'd come though . Just thinking out loud . Not sure what the board should do . If Souness is still there for the Leeds match the players who want him out (if indeed they do) might just stroll about the park as per usual . Whatever happens , anything less than a win and he has to go immediately . Time for Williams and co to earn their wages.
  6. Maybe Rover6 was right all along........Too late for Sturrock ; now who else could fit the bill ? Mark Hughes ?
  7. It's the price of it all that's putting people off . I'd have gone to watch L'pool tomorrow , but at £29 a ticket it's just too much (when the 2 kids demand to go as well ) . I'm with Abbey on this , it's getting to the point were too many of the players are taking the pi33 . £500 for season tickets I spend - I might be on next years flight to Denver as well....
  8. I note in AlanK's link that Leeds would incur a 9 point deduction by going into admin . If , say , in March , Leeds still look like going down , that would be a good time to pull the plug . The loss of 9 points wouldn't mean much , and the 10 point loss potentially incurred by the Nationwide presumably wouldn't take place. (The new rule applies from June 4th , but is going into the rule book right away.) Just a thought.....
  9. I heard the figure of (I think) £105m on the radio today . Players and staff would have to defer wages 'til kingdom come to make even a small dent in that . The sooner they bite the bullet , the better for everyone.
  10. The main word there is "potentially" . Potentially it could also just delay the inevitable for a while and the wages just go into the black hole. The players aren't responsible for this mess - why should pay for the megalomania of Ridsdale and his cronies? They are no different from workers in any other industry . They can't be expected to pay for bad management - especially when their skills are in demand elsewhere.
  11. Unfortunately not , Flopsy ; as a recent convert to the beautiful game I'm counting down the days to summer already....
  12. Obviously it was an embroidered version of history but the bare facts are that while everyone around him were dying like flies in extremely dodgy circumstances , Claudius was not only overlooked and survived but remained in power for about 12 (?) years . One of the strangest stories in history if you combine the writings of Suetonius , Tacitus , Dio et al .
  13. It doesn't surprise me that you were disapointed somewhat with Harris . I've long suspected that his friends in the newspapers have exagerated his talents . "Fatherland " was only mediocre at the best. I was in Malta recently were I re-read both Robert Graves' "I Claudius" (part 1) , and Trevor-Roper.s "The Last Days of Hitler" - both top notch works and very readable - if you're into historical stuff . Try also Tacitus' "Annals".
  14. No no no no no NO NO . Ignore them and write only about the mighty Blues . Space is too precious to waste on a nothing Nationwide team . The gretest insult is to remain aloof .....
  15. Good grief ! I hope this awful piece by Revidge's successor isn't a sign of things to come . My money's on SCummings if it comes to a war of words ........
  16. The best way to deal with the sad individual , SCummings , is to ignore him , and ignore his team . That's the way Phil Lloyd dealt with him and it's the best policy . With a short column to fill , why waste space on a dingle ? We're top of the Prem , they're moving ever closer to Accy . Nuff said........
  17. . You're obviously too honest, Rev . A "real" journalist would have found another way of putting it - new avenues to explore , a fresh challenge , etc , etc . Or even , early retirement ..... :'>
  18. Too true . It's a tragic tale all round . The bloke must have been in a pretty desperate condition but in a years time how many people will remember who he was or why he killed himself ? Apart from his family that is ... It would have been more decent and worthy of him to tough it out - or even tell the whole truth .
  19. Not entirely innocent . He did , after all ,voluntarily enter the murky world of leaking information to the press , even if it was supposed to be "unattributable". Perhaps a man with such a scientific mind should have been able to predict the hostility from gov't circles his actions would precipitate. During his grilling by the select committee - which is what they are for - I suspect he was not entirely honest about the degree of his own importance to Gilligan's stories. His was a tragic story but he helped to write it .
  20. Oh - and how did the green and white stripes go down with the neighbours .........
  21. Having watched about a million Islamic extremist lunatics yesterday beating their own chests and in some cases mutilating themselves in a way that went out of fashion with fundamentalist Christians centuries ago , I am more convinced than ever that this was a stupid war . I'd bet my bottom dollar that Bin Laden and every other religious lunatic will be confident of filling the political void that incompetents like Bush and Blair have not even considered. Better a secular extremist bent on keeping power internally than a religious fanatic bent on exporting "God's will".
  22. Twas always so , Radaghast - I remember the days of Tony Parsons and the odious Julie Burchill . It was more like a political propoganda sheet than a music paper. The musical qualities of the bands were purely incidental.
  23. Tina Turner eh ? So that's why people leave early.......
  24. Good news , Philip ; they've started to play it again the last few games . It's no coincidence that we're on a winning streak....
  25. Nope - never heard of S&M I'm afraid , nor Live after Death. Must be my age . Col , I think you have to be in the right mood to appreciate the Ramones ; the older you get , the less frequent the mood arises . Same with a few things , I guess
