  1. Can't agree there B&WR.

What would happen if he knicked it onto his pad and it wasn't picked up, and he was given LBW!

This is a typical beat up from Aussie tabloid TV. They're fishing for something that isn't there, IMO.

Possibly just covered the outside edge? Who knows? You wouldn't put it past Pietersen though.

If you want to have a discussion about morals and ethics, and cheats and hypocrites in connection with the India team, I'm more than happy to oblige.

    Please do.

  2. More reports coming out in today's news that Pietersen has been cheating. Reports claim that he has been using special silicone tape around his bat so that HotSpot cannot detect any contact.

Would not surprise me at all. After all, he is surrounded by cheats.

  3. Funny you should mention Lara because I was in Antigua for the match in 1994 when he scored his 375 - and I watched it with a mixture of horror and fascination ! Like Tendulkar, Lara was a beautiful player to watch, technically very correct unlike Richards who played around his front pad alot and relied on his speed of eye to hit the ball.

I love watching batsmen's different techniques, and also bowlers too, but when it comes to Rovers and England I only want us to win which is why I am always watching our players intently and not the opposition so much. Does that make me a proper fan of the game - I think it does. BTW how did you feel by the way when Sri Lanka were pulversing India for 952 in 1997 ?

I understand your support of India but fail to see why you should not support England as your second team against countries other than India - after all, you live and work here. Failure to do so would make you as contemptible as Lord Haw-Haw above, and I think you're capable of showing more class than the likes of him.

I don't do "second teams". I support India and that is it. I have no obligation to give any support to England, and I do not wish to either. Maybe I would be inclined to support them if they had the correct morals and ethics, however a team full of cheats and hypocrites just doesn't do it for me.

Reading the news today, it seems that one of your players Panesar, has been urinating on bouncers. These are the kind of morons that the ECB wish to give central contracts to.

The 952 was not painful at all. In fact I still remember the fantastic innings from Jayasuriya. Over 300+ if I remember correctly. The match ended in a draw, therefore not disappointed at all. Talking about painful, how did it feel watching Stuart Broad getting smashed all around the ground for 6 sixes from Yuvraj? Surely nothing can be more humiliating than that?

  4. A closed and empty mind is never good. I wonder if as many ignore his words as have chosen to put you on ignore on here?

The same approach the party took when it came to Hillsborough, yet you continue to back them.

Jim, with regards to not watching the opposition. How did you rate Lara when he annihilated you to reach a record breaking 400*? Or was that just poor bowling?

You cannot compare football to cricket. Completely different sport and both played at a completely different pace. If you are not paying attention to the opposition, then as somersetrover said, you're not a proper fan of the game.

  5. Broad's average is around 30 I think but averages don't always tell the true story: Broad's a good strike bowler for England, he hits the deck hard and gets bounce, and offers something different from Anderson's swing and Bresnan's accuracy. I would rather have Broad than any of the opposition bowlers.

Strauss and Co made their choice because they have lived here since childhood and teens, not on which was the better side. You chose India instead of England because of your parents, which is fair enough. But that doesn't give you the excuse to slag England off at every opportunity; in fact, after India England ought to be your second team.

Strauss would never have got into the South African side, nor Pietersen at the time, hence they chose the easier option of England.

If you would have Broad instead of Siddle, then you need to give your head a wobble.

  6. And which of your mediocre lot are better than Broad ? Tremlett has been injured (yet again) but is back in the squad for Durham.

Thanks for the advice. BTW England are 2-0 up and have retained the Ashes

In the current series, Siddle, Harris, Starc and Pattinson who all have more wickets than Broad. He has an average of 52, and from all the full time bowlers, only Finn has a worse average.

In the Test Bowling Rankings, Siddle is ahead of Swann and Anderson, arguably your 2 best bowlers. Broad is currently 14th, behind both Siddle and Harris.

Blimey Jim, you were having a go at Theno for not knowing sweet FA about cricket, you seem equally clueless.

  7. So like Strauss etc, you could play for two countries . So your stance that the South African-born players should not be playing for England is idiotic.

Strauss and Co made their choice, as did Bopara and Panesar - which would you choose ?

They made their choice because they weren't good enough for South Africa/India. I didn't make my choice based on which team was better at the time. I supported India because my parents did. Same reason I support Blackburn Rovers.

    Big difference.

  8. Not idiotic at all, but Lord Tebbitt made a strong point to qualify your definition of 'British'.

    http://barrettsonthisday.anorak.co.uk/uncategorized/1814/tebbit-proposes-cricket-test.html

23 years ago and unfortunately still appears to be relevent today despite many efforts and much hoo ha being made to promote integration.

I stopped reading as soon I read "Conservative politician". No time to read what a scumbag party politician has to say.

  9. Doesn't matter where they were born - most have raised in this country from an early age, have British parents and have made their homes here. Your stance is idiotic.

My parents were born in India. I am a British Indian. So how is it idiotic?

  10. Strauss has English parents, moved to England aged six and went to Repton school and Durham university. Compton is the grandson of Denis Compton, moved to England in his teens and went to Harrow school. Prior moved to England aged 11, Trott is of English descent and has played for Warwicks since 2002, Pietersen has an English mother and has been here since he was 19. The others I don't know about. England has strong SA ties owing to colonial past and as such there are bound to be connections. I repeat, calling the England team South Africa A is stupid.

Response to idiotic criticism of England from an India supporter.

Another hypocrite amongst the England camp it seems. You have a go at me for not supporting England despite being from England. Yet it's okay for the likes of Pietersen, Trott and the majority of your South African born squad, to play for England?

  11. All teams time waste if it works in their favor to do so, it's just part of the game.

To an extent. Yesterday that Dingle and the rest of the England cricket team were an embarrassment to the sport.

2 down now. Weather holds up then Aussies should wrap this up.

You could certainly never call Cook an active captain that's for sure.

Lyon coming on to bowl really hope he bowls well because he has the ability it's just his confidence that is his trouble, due to always being dropped for no good reason.

Correct. Chasing 332 to win from 98 overs is not that difficult (under 4 an over). Have a go at the Aussies. If wickets tumble quickly then go on the defensive. However, they have been defensive from the start.

  12. Do you want me to find other examples of "shameful" Indian time-wasting ? It's pretty easy if you look.

India may have been fined for slow over-rate, but the reasoning was due to field changes etc from Dhoni as he is a very active captain. Cook on the other hand was deliberately slowing the game down in order to force the draw.

  13. Big difference between an ODI and Test match, Jim. The game was completed regardless of the slow over rate, they weren't delaying in order to change the outcome of the result, whereas Cook was scared. Hence used disgusting tactics in order to delay a cracking performance by the Aussies. Shameful.

  14. Daft review. Daft system in place and MUST be removed. DRS has been the talk of the series and has taken the attention away from the games greatest contests.

Also, Cook should be banned for his ridiculous over-rate yesterday. Around 12 overs per hour with Swann bowling majority of the time. Disgusting. Fans have paid good money for them tickets for them to be cheated out of a full game due to idiotic tactics by the England team. An embarrassment for cricket and should be dealt with by the ICC.

  15. Clarke often takes risks, he's on of the few captains to win a test after declaring behind on the 1st innings.

Not sure he'll follow on if applicable, as our seamers will need a rest as it doesn't look like he can rely on Lyon to get most of the wickets.

If we knock England over at some time on the 4th day, I'd bat again for a session or so, make a quick hundred runs and then send them in again with half an hour to go before stumps.

Great plan, however a slight issue. Rain forecast for the next 2 days!

  16. Why the Indians (and Pakistanis) are the biggest cheats in cricket. Scumbags even.

So you've gone from match fixing to picking up on actual wickets. Been a long day? Don't worry, you can join those scummy English cricketers in the Old Trafford dressing room, they're feeling the same.

  17. Cheating scum?

Remind me how many Indian players have now been convicted or accused of match fixing?

None. Those that have been, haven't played for the Indian Cricket team and have been penalised whilst playing for their clubs.

Let's not forget about the ball tampering the English got away with. It was a different story when they accused the Pakistan team when they visited England.

Anyway, England showing once again why they lack so much depth in the team. Anderson cannot get the ball to swing and that has nullified 90% of the England bowling attack.

Swann is a hypocritical scumbag too. Like I posted earlier in the thread, see he comments on the Sri Lankan lad for not walking.

  18. Another shocking decision. England may well win this series but boy have they had the rub of the green.

No wonder the BCCI refrain from using such amateur technology.

Edit: Also, no surprise seeing Prior and Swann in the midst of it. Cheating scum.

  19. Thats an unfair comment Sparky Marky and you really should retract it. History is a cross most establishments have to bear but new owners have no link to previous ones and should not be judged on what has gone on in the past. I can guarantee that the Horden Rake (now Oyster and Otter) and the Clog and Billycock served godawful food until Jocelyn Neve and the Ribble Valley Inns took over and now they are dining places of real quality. Would you still come out with that so blithely if Delia or Fearnley Whittingstall etc had taken the place?

    Crikey thats a bit late!

Can I take it that the owners of the Bukhara are related to you ... or do you have shares in it?

It has been for quite some time, just not had a chance to post it.

  20. Has he seen the 3/5 review? that after weeks to make things right?

We went to Zinc again yesterday Manchester near the corn exchange, very good food, consistent and a good setting. 2 courses for £13, fish cakes to start and steak and chips for main, bottle of Malbec, very nice indeed.

Food hygiene is 5/5 and has been for quite some time. Thought I'd let you know. Food is still 5/5 if you ask me ;-)
