If having a break recharges the batteries then I’m all in favour. We will only know the effects when they all return. I’m not sure that Theory X management works with the modern day footballer TBH. Look at Mourinho v Solskjaer. It’s damned if you do, damned if you don’t I think. We have a squad that is serially under performing, breaking the routine might just be what’s needed. it reminds me of clubs who cancel Christmas parties after a bad result, I always think that symbolises a “token gesture to appease the fans’ approach...if I was on the receiving end of that kind of management I’d think the guy had lost the plot...?‍♂️

I didn't want to take up too much of his time TBH, Don was lovely & accommodating, I thought we had covered sufficient ground to make it compelling but without taking up loads of his time.

I was curious about this...in the a/cs year ending June 2001 (i.e. after his death) Rovers lost £31m & the balance sheet showed accumulated losses of £70.9m.

We now have the benefit of hindsight of course but following a poor December the window was seen as an opportunity to re-calibrate what might be possible this season. A series of impressive results really cranked up the optimism and rumours abounded of Harry Chapman, Sam Gallagher, Britt Assombalonga et al. That only Chapman arrived and he was evidently some way off match fitness was, in the end, anti climactic. A disastrous February seems to have highlighted that our squad depth isn’t what we might have hoped, our fringe players aren’t putting the pressure on the 1st XI that you’d hope, our senior players seem to have lost their mojo, our tactics seem to change within game and from game to game with no discernible improvement in performance and our defence is as fragile as a Theresa May promise. Downing is earmarked as surplus to requirements, Wharton sent out on loan and so the permutations in defence involve rotating the same cast, with no discernible improvement in performance. A “beast” of a centre half used to organising those around him....including the keeper...a strong, “ball holding up” centre forward, perhaps even a loan keeper of calibre to keep Raya on his toes...and who knows where we might have ended up ? Hindsight...the perfect science....but let’s learn the lesson in July eh chaps ?

Gotta be honest, it’s all about who we can make contact with by using our network...if we get wind of someone who knows someone then we give it a go...we have some irons in various fires & we have some friends who are very helpful. Hopefully we can deliver some more as the year progresses...??
