  1. All teams time waste if it works in their favor to do so, it's just part of the game.
  2. Warner test class? No chance. Wasted another review. This pitch is batsman's paradise right now, the ball doing pretty much nothing. Australia about to collapse?
  3. There's something in the pitch because of the slope and the patches of rough that produce the odd big turner. During the first two days at least this was overall a pretty decent pitch to bat on. Of course the next few days it's only going to become better for bowling as it breaks up. Sure the Aussie bowling attack doesn't have bowlers the class as Warne or McGrath but they have a pretty decent bowling attack. Siddle has improved a lot since we last saw him and Harris has great stats but has been hampered by injury. On the issue of Clarke I think it's clear there is plenty of friction and factions in that Australian team. Clarke has an average of 66+ since he took over so apart from this series he has been batting pretty well since he took over, but you could argue his use of the DRS at times has been baffling and detrimental to Australia. I wonder if Watson (rumored to have fallen out with Clarke) deliberately used a DRS that he knew would have failed to @#/? him off? Wouldn't surprise me. Unless Australia can get a few wickets this morning to get them out cheaply and then bat really well in the second Innings then England is going to go 2-0 up. If that happens then England will win the series, I can't see Australia winning the 3 on the bounce needed.
  4. What are the chances of Australia begging Ponting to come out of retirement? Or maybe bring back Katich? I would bet Langer and Hayden who have been out of the game for years could probably do better than some of this lot as well.
  5. The pitch is a batsman's paradise and will be for at least another day by the looks of it, teams should be getting 400+ on this. Not a single ball has been a jaffa/unplayable delivery in this innings, some of the worst shot selection you would ever see is why they are 96-6. You think South Africa, India or Sri Lanka would be 96-6 for on this pitch in their first Innings? No chance.
  6. Another Australian batting collapse on the cards by the looks it it due to dumb ass shot selections - wasted their DRS again as well. England well on top. Clarke needs to get a big hundred here otherwise this test could be over well before day five.
  7. Was listening to TMS the other day and Jim Maxwell said that Harris was the best bowler for Australia over the past two-three years. I can see why.
  8. England just need to see off this still newish ball, I can't see it turning much on day one and unless the Australians managed to get some reverse swing going plenty of runs should still be there for the batsmen if they want it. Australia have bowled superbly and the momentum is clearly with them right now but it can change pretty quickly.
  9. Poor start by England. Edit- Even worse. Surely we are not going to see another 14 wickets falling on day one like the first test?
  10. Really surprised they made a change as Finn would have been on his home ground and England usually don't like changing a winning team unless there are injuries. I would have dropped Finn but I am surprised they did. Any of the Australian posters happy with their changes? Khawaja and Harris in for Cowan and Starc? Harris' 47 wickets in 12 tests at an average of 23.63 is very good. Taken wickets against England before as well.
  11. I suspect you will see a similar pitch at Lords (though with the slope there is more bounce). The decent weather has played a part but they have also asked the pitches to be prepared that way. The England setup know they are better at reverse swing than the Aussies and that their spinner is better so they have produced dry abrasive pitches.
  12. As suspected they have named the same squad for Lords. If Finn can't perform on his home ground on a pitch that should suit him then he should be dropped from the rest of this series. Plenty of players I can't stand in this current England team for example Broad, Pietersen et al but I still want them to win. Got to hope and pray that Jimmy stays fit, he looks like the only dangerous bowler we have at the moment. In world cricket I would only take Steyn over him.
  13. Every single day has been really entertaining. Whatever the result I think both sides can take positives from this test and areas to work and improve on.
  14. Looking at the rankings I don't think there is a huge difference between 2nd-4th place, South Africa are clearly the best test side in the world right now. England should win tomorrow but this first test has shown that this series could be an interesting one, especially if Australia can sort out their batting woes/collapses. If they can then we could see a really great series.
  15. They did that to pretty much everyone, once in a lifetime bowlers. If Broad decided not to walk that's his prerogative, the only thing he can be called out on is this 'within the spirit of the game' and that is such an open interpretation. I find it a tad amusing and a bit hypocritical that people in the media are moaning about Australia's favorable decisions but have a completely different stance on Broad. The real story here is that both teams have been burned by decisions in this Test and this is with one of the supposedly best umpires in the world in Dar. I just hope that they tighten it up otherwise it could ruin what has been a thrilling series so far.
  16. The umpires will be under the spotlight after this match that's for sure after some really poor decisions. Realistically a lot of players wouldn't have walked in that situation, personally I think he should have but that's just part of the game. The only time I really remember a player doing the right thing in that situation was Gilchrist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gVI8sOtdNk
  17. I wouldn't say they are winning it yet. They have just gone over the total but this is still a decent batting conditions and I can't believe England will bat as poorly the second time around. If Australia can get a lead of 150 it would be interesting, but with the one wicket left I still think England are in the driving seat. As someone who finds one sided test matches far too boring It's good to see a bit of a fightback from Australia.
  18. Worst Aussie batting lineup for decades? A couple were really good deliveries but most of dismissals were due to shocking technique. Not a real contest. Having said that Agar looks a real talent, him and Hughes showing some fight
  19. The first hour will probably decide the outcome of the match. If England can strike in the first hour and overall bowl them out relatively cheaply then they should be favorites with Swann bowling on a really crumbly pitch on day 3/4. If Australia can survive until the cloud cover clears and the sun is out then they still have the opportunity to put up some runs, though is that realistic at all with that batting lineup? England have to be favorites to win.
  20. Innings ended. Looks like a really poor effort by England but you don't know what is a good score on this pitch until Australia have batted. Clarke is the real danger man here, he is averaging 66.10 since he took over the captaincy.
  21. The Aussie bowling attack looks pretty promising with plenty of youth and pace in there though obviously inexperienced. Clarke is one of the best batsmen in the world right now but the rest of the batting order doesn't look that dynamic. Crucial wicket taken shortly after lunch keeping this day one interesting.
  22. Has anyone else been watching 'The Americans'? Only watched the two episodes so far and it's pretty good.
  23. I think the problem with Game of Thrones is that you feel there is so much potential for so much more to come from the series. As like previous seasons I found it a bit slow and found the constant switching between characters to be annoying at times. Also unless you have read the books (I haven't) it can be difficult to follow some of the characters, sometimes you sit there and think "Did I get your name? Who are you exactly? What faction do you belong to?" etc. But the series is still one of the best things on TV and they pull out this really dramatic, stunning moment every now and again that will keep you interested especially towards the end of a season. I know people who have read most of his books and consider his earlier works which were in Science Fiction and Horror to be superior pieces of literature to his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. For example Fevre Dream is considered to be a classic in it's genre and regarded by many as his best piece of work.
