In fairness though, under TM we have only had one loan from a top club that I can remember, so that's a 100 percent hit rate when loaning them. Other loanees have been from lesser Prem sides and one Championship side. Reed, great success from Southampton, Cunningham, success until injured, Walton, dogshit from Brighton, Harper from WBA who was dogshit, Antonsson from Leeds who did an alright job, Payne from Hudds who we didn't really need but was ok, and Armstrong who was a success and made perm.

So the notion that we only really try from the top top clubs doesn't really add up. Also, with a small sample of one player from a big club who did well, the results have been better, although that's a very limited sample to go off! But our non top club loans have been a mixed bag. I might be forgetting some. We had some other lad on loan from Manure I think, years ago, was shit but the name escapes me. Think it was just before TM though.

For some reason i thought Harper came from somewhere else but i take your point. Mine still stands though on the point about they can't be surprised at the wages quoted but no way are half the Prems kids on that money. So it's fair to presume he's referring to enquires at the likes of City/Chelsea/Liverpool etc.

It's nice they want quality youth but as mentioned it represents false economy when you are just finishing midtable and only seem to aim for marginal gains.  However there will be some good ones to be had from other Prem clubs but going off the ones listed he seems to want flash types and they just aren't suited to our style or this league really.

Didn't we have some kid from Chelsea fairly recently or am i mixing names up again ?  Not Kane, i mean under Mowbray.

  2. Like i said originally the min we are in for an ex Boro lad we land them but seem to miss everything else. He's more or less confirming in that that it isn't always down to money he isn't doing the convincing selling job on them.

Comments also on good young players on 1.5 mill per year but no way on earth are they all on that. He only seems to look at City/Chelsea and Liverpools good youngsters so i don't know what they expect. There are lots of others out there and other clubs manage it yet again it's like Rovers are unique in this situation. Out of all the top club young loanees we've had only really one was really looking like he warranted the hype.

Think outside the box a bit and look a bit deeper than the fanciful stuff.

  3. Speaking of Wycombe the time Simon Garner took Nob End to the cleaners at Wembley whilst playing for them was a thing of beauty.

Since they got back in this division their fans have been like Burnley fans on acid it's hilarious to observe that Rovers chip on their shoulders the size of Ewood. They've punched way above their weight last few years mainly due to their bold manager and Uncle Racehorse but he's no Jack Walker or even Venkys.

The sales will come around soon then they'll combust.

Davenport would be the one I'd move on.

Evans reads the game well and good at tackling.

Johnson good at shooting and good in the air.

I think Johnson and Gallagher are good to bring on in the last 15 minutes if we are winning to defend against ariel bombardments.

Think i'd look to loan Davenport if they aren't going to use him, wouldn't close the door completely yet.

Evans is Evans he merits a place in the squad but given his injuries, his international commitments and wages i think i'd take the chance to move him on if there was a good offer. Only if we were replacing him with something good though like Whiteman otherwise i'd get rid of Johnson and look to phase Evans out this season unless he proves otherwise.

My argument is. It shouldn't be 'cover'. We should have a midfield full of people that are good enough or fit enough to get us promoted.

Davenport, Evans and Johnson aren't the answer.

Holtby and Rothwell COULD be. But we need someone else.

Yep bring a better one in and move one out, that's how improving is done.

  6. If the right manager had got hold of him at the right time he'd still have been a terrible footballer but they might have made something of his graft and fitness. Our academy experts should've made him into a right back but there's no money in that they saw £££ from marketing him as this all action midfielder then selling him.

Allardyce or Hughes might have done summat with him for a while but his emergence was with that conman so true to form everybody got conned for a while. Probably including the player himself into thinking he was better than he was, somebody should have had him watching endless vids of Savage and those types. Even harrassing in midfield and closing down is an artform any fit player can do the headless chicken routine.

Number of times teams walked straight through the great holes he left used to boil my blood.

You're right that Tosin was fairly decent defensively but we weren't spoilt. However, he did bring a lot of height and pace. Ayala is 2 inches shorter, but still 6 ft 3 and meant to be very good in the air, so could still be an upgrade in that sense. He isn't as quick though and I still have concerns that our passing game high up the pitch already leaves us vulnerable to counter attacks.

I think we need to modify our overall game. Not just for defensive reasons. If we won't though, I hope the backup CB we aim to bring is a quick one. That's obviously Magloire's main attribute though.

You'll have to go a fair way to find a center half his age who can pass out like he could at this level. However i'd take someone who puts himself first to the ball and the does the basics really well consistently over that any day. Like you say though the bombing full backs will cost us many times this seasons against the better teams unless there are very good quick center defenders covering.

We were spoiled by Tosin last year and still we leaked badly at the back.

Really hope he can form an excellent partnership with Lenihan.

Spoiled by Tosins passing and technical ability not really with defensive side of it although he wasn't bad. We've been crying out for the basics for years i hope he brings it.

And that white-haired Italian striker too. Ravioli or something.

But yeah, they have never won the top division in their history. Their only honours is winning the League Cup once.

Also, they have the honour of being one of the first clubs relegated from the PL.

And, they talk like Juninho was one of the best players in the world. He was good but that's way OTT.

They did beat Bolton though so ....

Cracking team they had for a while chock full of talent i used to enjoy watching them stick it up some of the big boys. Attitude of some of their fans leaves a lot to be desired though but like us most of them know who and what they are.

  10. If he was carving his career a league or two below Breretons all round game would probably look a little bit more effective.

A complete knee jerk signing where the manager didn't know what he wanted him for and 2 years later the player still doesn't appear to know what he's supposed to be doing.

My guess is he might turn into one of those flat track bully types where he'll run riot the odd game against crap opposition, then disappear completely the rest of the time.

Do you remember them back in the 60's when they used to have a mascot dressed as a sailor wandering round the touchline? He always seemed to be pissed as well.

No mate these vids are more my era. Remember them bringing about a thousand in the cup once. Rough game and it all went off outside afterwards.

  12. Trav injured now I detest these early cup games these days. Just not equipped enough numbers wise to make enough changes.

Played well tonight no real complaints. Think this over reliance on bombing full backs who never really create much will undo us time and again this season. We already knew that though and everyone isn't as good as Bournemouth & Newcastle so that'll be our saving grace

  13. Good effort and not before time so any moaning at both manager and owners has been fully justified. Bowyers era got Duffy in and even Coyles reign saw Mulgrew signed so it's about time Mowbray & Swaggo delivered a decent defender so no need for squabbling, point scoring or i told you so's.

Let's all get behind him and hope it was worth the wait.

My season ticket last season, and the season before was £319 in the Riverside, the year before that it was £299.

    This season its £399.

£80 jump in one season seems a hell of a lot to me, especially in current circumstances.

Exactly, there's no excuse for that whatsoever are the public not struggling a little bit more than the football club ?  They are saving easily 1 million pounds on last season just by not paying Graham & Downing anymore.

£25 to 50 quid fair enough but more than that is an ignorant piss take by the fat man.

Someone else available on the market. ?

“Stokesy has been in training for approximately 4 weeks now and it’s fair to say that we both knew that there was going to be a lot of work to be done to get Anthony into top shape to play Premiership football.

“Whilst trying to get the player in shape, it’s been extremely frustrating for all of us, staff and player alike, that we can’t seem to get the intense training needed into the player”.

Jeez we have signed some belters over the years.

Sooner he completely lands on the scrapheap the better, still he probably has the right agents to end up a well paid pundit. Represents everything wrong with football that #### !

And a repeat of the 1998 shootout, when a young David Dunn scored the last penalty for Rovers to win 4-2. Incidentally both teams missed a penalty during the game. A Shearer rarity when he ballooned one over the bar and Kenna had one saved in injury time.

Remember a load of us listening to the later stages of that at a mates house after 5 a side. He wasn't a rovers fan but we blagged him to put it on and all piled in when we were dropping him off.

Everybody asking who's that David Dunn !

With our recent experiences of "closing deals" i find it mental that people are openly saying we're close/going to sign Ayala. Balls of steel if you ask me ha. Don't believe anything until the club announce he's signed.

For all we know his names being put out again and we are the bait to get other clubs moving.

Hope it comes off but to be told we've missed out twice would be even more galling.
