  1. Sorry this is a bit late; but the verdict on Elliott of my longstanding former colleague who regularly comes back down south from Newcastle with his Anfield season ticket in his pocket is that, "he's good - talented, confident, tough." I was particularly pleased to see the last word in his opinion. He added that he felt sure the loan would be mutually beneficial. I still can't quite believe it! I've got a mixture of elation that we might - at last- be "on our way back"; hope that Elliott might be the talisman that the young Shearer was in 1992; and regret for what, in retrospect, seems like a bit of a wasted decade.
  2. Surely you can top Mercer's £150 @ 13-2? And from memory, that's for promotion. Think really big; and who knows, you might be able to buy the club from our owners!??
  3. No; your carelessness in not checking what you've written before you post. It devalues what you post, imo.
  4. And following that tangent a bit further, I couldn't help but wonder how Alf Thornton and - memory's a bit hazy here - William Westall [?] at the Blackburn Times would have coped with all the latter-day inventions like transfermarkt!
  5. Thank goodness for that; when I heard that Lenihan wasn't playing, I feared that Bennett would be shoe-horned into the first eleven.
  6. Dead right. I remember being about seven or eight years old when my Mum told me she was only twelfth in my Dad's affections because there were eleven Rovers ahead of her. That was in the days before substitutes, obviously!
  7. Why have I never wandered down this particular Memory Lane before? ? My Dad was born in 1908; so he'd have been too young to appreciate fully the two Division One titles and unfortunately died in 1984 so missed the more modern Glory Days. His memories of the teams of the 1920s were so vivid, he had the young me believing that Teddy Harper was still playing. He couldn't afford a ticket for the '28 Final but his best pal went to that game. After the War, that best pal became my Godfather; and before he died, he gave me his 1928 ticket because he and his wife had no children of their own. It's still in a box somewhere; I must dig it out.
  8. Good news for those of me who's just outside the Radio Lancashire FM Radio catchment area! DAB should do the trick.
  9. We've not off-loaded him, have we, AJ?!? And to the team we're playing on Saturday, too!
  10. And when you're the country's top scorers! Those stats are also an impressive golf score!! Night night, all!?
  11. Yes; I was looking forward to quoting those stats when I'd caught up with all the posts from about halfway down page 26. I vividly remember being insufferable to the Blackpool-supporters - and one Burnley supporter! - in my class at Grammar school. A goal difference of 15!!? As it goes, the Burnley supporter emigrated later to New Zealand, where I've visited him a few times. These days, we have a chat on WhatsApp on Sunday mornings [UK time] most weeks. After our result, and Ings' goal last night, I'm rather looking forward to today's chat!?
  12. You and me both, Madon! ? I got in from shopping about half past four - had made a point of not checking this Board while I was out - and put Final Score on TV. Couldn't believe my eyes - have been ecstatic ever since. COYB!
  13. Don't think so; it's chaddy not doing the rest of us the courtesy of reading his posts before he posts them. Again.
  14. Sorry, chaddy; what does this sentence mean, please?
  15. Apparently, 2 former Rovers - Shearer and someone called Danny Murphy - say it's down to the players working out for themselves!! Should have waited before posting the previous post!
  16. I'm just watching Spurs on Match of the Day 2, and can't help wondering what could stop Gallagher playing the Harry Kane 'wide' role and Arma playing the Son 'scoring' role? Please don't feel the need to answer that question at once!!
  17. Oh, Mercer, Mercer; why on earth did I not act on this?? I could have afforded a Mercer-esque bottle of Red tonight!
  18. Sounds almost like "Gally Blues" to me, Lennie!?
  19. Yes, C L B; if we can see it, why can't the management? And DO something about it? Btw, if you're raiding the pantheon for Centre Halves, what wouldn't we give for a John McNamee in his pomp? A back four, and defensive midfielders, wouldn't need much coaching if we had a latter-day McNamee as their leader, I'd say. We'd need a reasonable reserve Centre Half, though, to play as today's referees would be flashing their red cards in his direction almost every game!
  20. Leonard!!! That's so bad, it's - almost - good!!?
  21. That statement of Waggot's ranks with "Defenders are coming" as an indictment of the deterioration in the quality of management since the days of Uncle Jack and John Williams, whose shoes Waggott isn't fit to lace, imo.
