  1. I'm not sure what people were expecting but this appointment pretty much fits the profile that Blackburn Rovers 2017 have created. First and foremost he will be cheap and for that they have got an experienced guy who can set up teams defensively. I don't think the next fifteen games will be pretty and relegation will be very much in the balance to the end of the season.

For what it's worth I have just had a conversation with somebody who knows him well and has done for a long time. He praised his honesty and diligence and feels he can eke enough points from our remaining fixtures to keep us up.

  2. Just now, Gavlar Somerset Rover! said:

All we need to do is 'keep winning games' according to Marv: http://mobile.rovers.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/blackburn-rovers-marvin-emnes-queens-park-rangers-3555257.aspx

That's alright then. There was I thinking we'd only won one game in eleven in the league, but I must be wrong.

We've also been terribly 'unlucky'. Coyle's hyperbole rubbing off big time on the players it would seem.

That is what happens when managers continually blame other things and dance around their handbags instead of facing the truth. Players will use any excuse for mediocrity but when the manager gives them one on a plate they will undoubtedly use it.

  3. I'd just like to congratulate the U23s on their excellent win against Burnley earlier today in the Premier League Cup. Hopefully with home games against Cardiff and Sunderland to come they can progress in the competition.

Even after everything that's gone on at this club and even though it's 'only' the U23s it still feels great to see the Rovers lads giving Burnley a good beating.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to be there today but sounds like a convincing win and well deserved victory. Anthony Stokes and Matty Platt with two goals a piece and Platt came close to his hat-trick.

Well done to them, done the club proud. Surely we need to be seeing Stokes in the first team though?

Well done to the team and management. It's always good to beat that lot at any level.

  4. Great work by DE and Bob. What struck me is how, despite being patently useless these players always get fixed up with a club somewhere. A general rule of thumb for clubs buying players should be the number of clubs they have played for. Generally they will have a plethora of short stays at clubs for a reason.

  5. Sorry to hear of the passing of former Rovers full back Neil Wilkinson, from the Furphy/Lee era, at the tender age of 61. RIP

Sad news indeed Andy. If I remember correctly he was Blackburn born and bred and lived in Mill Hill. Memories of him as a player are sketchy but I do recall him being sent off in an FA Cup replay at Altrincham which was played on a midweek afternoon.

    Condolences to his family.

  6. Terrible news about Chris Boardman's mum being killed while out cycling in Deeside. RIP.

ITV4 did a really nice piece at the end of their TdF highlights programme this evening. It was all Chris Boardmans own words and was quite moving.

    RIP.

  7. It certainly was interesting yesterday. It looks like the strong winds on the top of Ventoux were the main culprit. As they chopped off the last few kilometres of the climb the same huge number of people were squashed into less road. On top of that they could not put up as many barriers along the last few kilometres of the route as they would have planned to do. Having said that the behaviour of some of the fans really is ridiculous. Still it seems like the commissaires have taken the sensible decision and luckily no one was hurt.

Quite extraordinary watching Chris Froome run up part of Ventoux and then be given a neutral bike with a different pedal to his cleats. Still as you say common sense prevailed and everybody seemed happy. Richie Porte looks really good and with some luck could really challenge.

  8. No great lover of Coyle, but if Lambert was the "bees knees" and Coyle is as bad as people think, would Graham seriously have signed.I think this allied to the strength of the backroom staff, who were instrumental in suggesting Coyle's appointment, paints a more positive approach. Lambert said all the right things but achieved very little..

Are you really comparing Coyle and Lambert as managers? Or are you forgetting who brought Irvine and Kelly in? Pretty sure they must have held Lambert in high regard to come here in the first place.

I think you are making a mistake if you are being taken in by Coyles 'positivity'.

  9. Fasten your seat belts

    http://orangeintheoven.com/2016/05/07/owen-coyles-job-line/

Unfortunately the team which he assembled in his own image has shown itself to be a steaming pile of garbage. If this really is the team Coyle wanted then the only conclusion is that he has no idea what he’s doing. If that is the case– and it certainly looks more and more likely that it is– then Owen Coyle must be fired.

Coyle’s tenure with the Dynamo has been very poor.

Ah but I can hear the people who want to give him a chance saying 'what do the Americans know about football'? Didn't the Bolton fans nickname him clueless and the comments from Dave Whelan are similar to the Houston supporters comments.

The man is a bullshitter and has blagged his way into jobs and (with one exception) crashed and burned. His interviews are full of superlatives (he likes the word magnificent), something that makes me wary straight away.

  10. I do agree with you in the sense that a proper training and fitness regime leads to less injuries.Just saying that in that instance the injuries at Bolton didn't have much to do with the way Coyle was training then,Holden had his leg broken in a match if memory serves me correctly.Hopefully with Chris Neville being involved with the fitness and conditioning side of things then we should be ok with the fitness of the squad.

Chris Neville was there under Bowyer when we had probably the most unfit side in years. If the manager takes a hard line regime players will follow. If Coyle wants to be one of the boys like Bowyer ill discipline will follow.

  11. Hibs fans have a pitch invasion like you see all the time, but Rangers are sore losers.

Luckily not a repeat of the 1980 one though.

114 years without winning the cup, losing 10 finals in that time, including a 5-1 hammering by their biggest rivals Hearts a few years ago.

    Great game of football.

Reports of six Rangers players and staff having received medical attention after being assaulted by Hibs fans on the pitch. Absolutely shocking scenes and no deserved lap of honour for Hibs.

  12. 550 from Orient so probably 1,000 extra.

A ridiculous piece of fixture planning once again. London to Accrington on Good Friday and similarly Southend were at Rochdale, Wigan at Swindon, Wimbledon at Hartlepool, Carlisle at Yeovil and Crawley at York. My sympathy however goes to Plymouth and their fans who didn't make it to Morecambe.

The Football League should be brought to book by their member clubs for their complete disregard for supporters.

  13. Agree. But we've had a few poxy 0-1 defeats that if had turned around we could be coming into a run of form higher up the table.

But yes, this season is one for consolidation and see what the summer brings.

Hypothetically how many of the 1-0 defeats we have had under Lambert do you think would happen if we had to play them with our current team? I think we would have got nine points from the Bolton, Reading, Cardiff and Brighton games.

  14. Just seen this

Has to be one of the worst decisions of all time, defies logic the whistle goes after the shot is taken

I often hear football fans say 'it's the worst decision I have ever seen' but for me this definitely is. I have been involved on football a long time and try to be pragmatic and see things from both sides but there is absolutely no defence for this. And the referee cannot be punished from the match assessor because in Law he was correct.

I really hope it doesn't come back to bite Accrington in the promotion campaign.

  15. Moon was indeed very impressive. Enjoyed the game but nightmare trying to decide where to go after coming out of the car park and along to what used to be the main road. Think I broke just about every rule

I think JAL thought you were referring to a player called Moon. I thought our two centre backs were impressive and may follow in the footsteps of Hanley, Jones and O'Connell in having decent careers. There was a good pace and intensity to the game and Luton played their part.
