I'd hope It's set at £15m plus to tbh.

We don't know if Dack's new contract contains a release clause and if it does what level it is set at. If there is one and a top Premier League side came in for him and met it matters would be largely out of our hands. If there isn't one then apart from the fact we would probably go down if we sold Dack it would be very short sighted to sell him now as if he shines and also has another 20 + goals season he is suddenly elevated into £15m plus territory.

Like you say bob, we Don't know and until any further info leaks out It's all pure speculation. It still seems strange to me that despite all the crap which has obviously been going on in the background GB was prepared to lead the Club into the first game of the season yet just 48 hours later he obviously felt he had to leave the Club
-
It's only your opinion and not a matter of fact that the window so far has been "decent". I'd say that very much depends on the impact that Armstrong makes at Championship level. If he fails to make the step up and no-one else comes in I'd hazard a guess we'll probably be looking back at it as a poor window. Conversely if he scores 20 goals I Don't suppose anyone will care if Rothwell Davenport and Palmer don't do anything much. Still three days to go as well so things might look considerably different by tea time Thursday.
-
Very strange timing. If GB was that disenchanted/worn out by it all that he felt he had to leave you'd expect him to do it at least a month before the season started rather than overseeing the first game then leaving.

Well, from TM's own comments last week it appears we've possibly missed out on our main targets and had to resort to one of our back up targets. Not sure how that qualifies as "organised" or "ambitious". In isolation though I'm quite pleased with the Armstrong signing, I think TM's comments about him were somewhat unfair. I'd have preferred it if he was coming in as the second striker signing as it were but I Don't necessarily see him as an inferior option at this level.
-
Seems a lot more likely we had to completely reassess having drawn a blank imo. Otherwise the players we need, particularly Armstrong would have been here in time for the start of the season and we wouldn't have been scurrying about looking to do panic business in the last few days of the transfer window.
-
Good signing but not enough in isolation. Still need another striker and one or preferably two wide men as a matter of urgency imo. Plus ideally a back up centre half given we made the pointless decision to loan out Wharton which means we now have to spend money bringing someone else in.

I think it's even worse than the home shirt with the cheap looking black transfer instead of a properly coloured badge. Worst two kits I can remember. If I could buy them each for a fiver I wouldn't out of principle.

Couldn't agree more. Either Bell will be good enough or he Won't, but we'll only find that out once he has had an extended run of games. I can't see the point in shelling out good money for him and then not giving him a chance. Certainly his peers in League 1 seem to rate him a lot more highly than our manager so why did we sign him? Conversely the exact opposite seems to apply to Samuel. I'd argue that if he is anything He's a centre forward who needs the ball playing in front of him to run onto. You're never going to get much joy out of him sticking him out wide yet it's almost as though with him, having formed out 400k for him, we have to shoehorn him into the starting eleven somewhere. -
The agent from Arena Sports Management who wangled contracts for Conway and Caddis must be a bloody good 'un. Any further news on Armstrong?

Watched the game in a local hostelry on a foreign channel and thought this was a fairly poor game between 2 sides who look as though they'll be looking nervously over their shoulder all season to get to 50 points. Desperately disappointing not to come away with the 3 points in the circumstances. The turning point was an appalling miss by Palmer on 76 mins at 2-1 up which would have secured the points. You can't afford to squander those sort of opportunities and so it proved as we conceded an extremely soft last gasp equaliser. Raya I think was entitled to see his defence attempt to close the cross out at source, then make some sort of attempt to cut it out when it comes in. Nevertheless if push comes to shove, he needs to be preventing that from going in once everyone else has missed it I think. Overall, I think we look well short all over the pitch. Williams was a real curate's egg, great going forward today, but badly at fault for their first and defensively I think he'll be a real liability this season. In central midfield with Evans and Smallwood in situ we look bereft of quality and creativity and Bennett isn't good enough on the right. Graham did pretty well and Dack showed some flashes of genius in the second half but the former is only good for around an hour and take those 2 out of the line up and you're not left with very much at all imo. With Graham already off the pitch I certainly wouldn't have withdrawn Dack as well because if you do then concede you've no chance of striking back. A point which probably would have been deemed acceptable before kick off, but the way the game panned out, definitely 2 points dropped and I suspect we are going to need every point we can get our hands on. -

That's why I've been upset with the quality of the recruitment to date. TM would appear to have been recruiting to provide back up to the old faithful whereas to my mind we needed at least 2 or 3 to go straight into the side. -
The price reflects the fact we're buying potential than the proven article imo. Based on what we've seen on him already I would say He's well worth the punt.
-
Yep, that's the sort of return you'd be hoping for. Not proven at Championship level (yet) but proven Scorers at that level cost a lot more than £1.75m upfront.
-
Good signing if it goes through. Fairly reasonable price wise at £1.75m plus add ons. Not sure why this couldn't have been done a month or two ago given that we were aware of the player and we're paying exactly what Newcastle were reported to be asking for him earlier in the summer. I suspect we've had to have a complete rethink a couple of weeks or so ago after drawing a complete blank everywhere.
-
So if we didn't sign anyone else on principle and went down that'd be ok would it? The market is what it is. I can't see prices doing anything other than increase further in the short to medium term. I we weren't prepared for that it's our look out.
-
I'm on the same planet as you thank you very much "pal". Lol. Cover might be what we need for players like Raya, Lenihan and Dack. Up front and out wide we need players who will come straight into and improve the first eleven.
-
Man.... are you ever grasping at straws now trying to defend this transfer window. I said I wanted two quality strikers to come in leaving Graham as a decent third oprion plus at least one wide man who could go straight into the first eleven as well. How is that wanting "competition for places?" I think deep down you know as well as well as I do we're headed for serious trouble if we go into the season with 33 year old Graham plus Samuel and Nuttall as our striking options plus Conway and Bennett as the wide men. Still seven days plus change left until the permanent deadline so let's hope we can do something about it.
-
Don't expect him to say it publicly, but would have expected him to bring in 2 quality front men, one at least permanently leaving Graham to provide competition for their spots. Must have missed it. Has anyone come in?
-
You're the one who's been trolling all summer by labelling anyone who has dared to criticise the transfer activity as a "doom monger". If you had taken out your blue and white ear muffs for a second you'd also have noticed that TM said 4 maybe 5 "by the end" which suggests to me the vast majority if not all of the remaining business will be done on Loan as opposed to permanently before the deadline.
-
For me we need a substantial injection of real quality in the striking and in the wide positions who would come in and improve the first eleven now not just bodies to provide a bit of competition for places to the existing personnel. However that would cost decent money and it seems fairly obvious we aren't prepared to pay it.
