Typical Eustace away performance. I never felt Boro looked like scoring, and the longer it went on the more we looked like we would get infront. Very similar to the league game.
We're better away from home. The team mindset and players we have at present is better at defending.
We should have won by more today. The lack of a goalscorer will kill us in the end

Is it too much to hope for a kind draw, and by that I mean a lower league side at home? I'd love a good cup run

That's a good win after the Bumley disappointment
Rovers love playing in the north-east ........ can we play there every week?

Leonard again missing a sitter...put Gueye on
Leonard needs 10 chances (at least) to score one, and his all round play isn't good either. I don't see a future for him

Whilst I will miss Bakers experience around the squad I have seen enough to know he is a bang average midfielder who can easily be replaced. The key question is will they replace him, answer is probably not.
No surprise our form has gone to shit since Travis got injured, we desperately need a centre mid willing to get forward and support attacks like he does. Baker just spent all game stood next to Tronstad making 6 yard passes.
My biggest memory of him will be missing that header against Burnley last weekend. For that reason alone I'm not sorry to see him go. He needs to be replaced though - surely it can't beyond even this useless management to find another average Championship plodder?

Unless neither Carter nor Wharton are going to play again this season, and we need the extra cover, Hanley is a bullet dodged.
As for Siggurdsson (sp?) shunt him out this week. He's a waste of a wage and needs to be got off the payroll.

Anecdotal I know but I enjoyed it and my Utd supporting friends both said they’d be happy to come again and that we should make plans soon. Our only quibble was with the ridiculous queues for beer and pies. Unbelievable!
I got a shock when I read a match report stating that the match was boring and not eventful. Maybe just because the match meant so much, but I was on the edge of my seat throughout. True, there wasn’t much quality on display from either side, but we’re Rovers supporters, not Barcelona.
If you can’t get excited by a closely-fought derby like that then you may as well give up on football.
It wasn't boring (who said that?) and no one said the occasion wasn't exciting, but you don't have to be "invested" as a fan for more than 60 years, as our group are, to recognise that as a match it wasn't a good watch. It'll take more than a disappointing derby for us to give up on football and I think you're United supporting friends were being kind.

It was a hypothetical about Dolan jim.
Shame, I thought it was a brief glimmer of good news on a horrible weekend

Just caught the tailend of this conversation but if anyone, just anyone, is offering money for Dolan I'd take it.
Regarding ageing wingers, a a general rule they're not a good idea. Your body changes in your late 20s, the spring in the legs suddenly goes and with it the pace over 2-3 yards to beat defenders and get a cross in.
Some folk would say Rovers signed Waggie at 32, and he proved to be an excellent player for us, albeit not as the flying winger he used to be. Schlupp's not in the same class, so it's a no from me.

With regards to the attendance, the Preston home game is coming up at the end of the month.
Can we attract half of the walk ons we had yesterday to that one?
No. In an nutshell
The 10,000 or so extra fans would probably have been appalled by yesterday's match, which was low quality with little excitement
They would also have been shocked probably at how limited Rovers are, compared to the teams and players they remember.
And we lost. The atmosphere was good but from a football point of view was little if anything to make the average wabering fan to visit Ewood again

It goes with Parker's behaviour at the end. Stay classy..
I didn’t see that, what did he do? We were in the Riverside Darwen end suffering the humiliation of the corner flag incident.

Didn't see their celebrations but that is pretty gut wrenching to hear.
Unfortunately it will continue this way until Venkys are gone. The only way Rovers surpass that lot again is if they get new ownership that know what they're doing and actually treat the club with the respect it deserves.
Burnley meanwhile will continue the cycle of promotion, relegation, spending parachute money to get promotion, relegation, etc. until they cement themselves in the top tier again. Don't think they'll manage it with Parker though. We've already seen with two separate clubs that he can't hack it in the Premier League.
I thought Parker had them well drilled, they looked well coached , playing within themselves. There was a 10 minute period in the first half when they kept the ball and we didn’t have a touch. The looked a class above us to be honest

Just to reiterate your point, I feel like we are running on our limit now as to what JE can do with what we have, I'm sure there's another gear in there for Eustace somewhere provided we get the right attributes.
Let's look ahead though we arent in that relegation zone treading water. 2nd half of the season remaining, but from where we were last season at the end shitting ourselves. I'll take a safe season, rebuild and hit the ground running next season.
Yes we’re at maximum effort and the maximum of our ability now. It can’t get any better. To improve from here we need at least 4-5 quality players to come in

Nearly 15 years on.
They are here forever.
11 without a win against them lot, including losing the last 5 at Ewood on the bounce. Then you have there players openly taking the piss after the game.
The above in a nutshell is what these owners have done to us.
Here's to another 15 years.
Watching Barnes celebrating and the player parading the Rovers corner flag with a Burnley shirt on…. That’s what hurt the most.
I wonder if the owners watching in India were feeling that hurt too?

Some more thoughts
On the plus side Tronstad, Baath, Brittain and Beck had excellent games, the latter will be sorely missed when he goes back.
However Cantwell is a lightweight show pony who flatters to deceive
Today was depressing in so many ways. The squad is overall very poor and not good enough to challenge for promotion
Watching Burnley players celebrate with their fans really hurt. Who was the player who grabbed the corner flag and ran around with it covered in Burnley shirt? As for Ashley Barnes he needs sorting out … away from the football pitch

Well that keeps up my 100 per cent record ……. Still yet to see Rovers win this season
Some thoughts
Hate to say it but Burnley were a class above, a standard of player in a different league to ours. They’ve spent money - and it showed
Rovers need a revamp, 3 or 4 new players, ones who can create and score goals. As it stands we will be lucky to finish in mid table
The Burnley goal and Rovers’ only chance in the first half came from beautiful lcrosses delivered at pace behind defenders, traditional and effective wing play. So much for inverted wingers

That’s how it worked with the England team back in the day. The selectors chose the players and the “ manager “ had to get a tune out of them. That explains why second division Middlesborough had several players selected in the early 1960’s. The first thing Alf Ramsey did was tell the selectors to do one, he was selecting the players. That didn’t turn out too badly.
Agree, it's nonsensical. I don't know why any manager worth their salt would work under such a system.... unless they were desperate for the job/money.

As a spectator, for me there's nothing more exciting that seeing tackles flying in, crosses coming in from the wings, goalmouth scrambles, and shots in the box.
All aspects which seem to have been lost in the 'modern' game.
........ but, but, but , aren't we all supposed to be in thrall to these modern "inverted wingers"?
I too regret the passing of the traditional way of playing and there's still no denying that defenders hate nothing more than a driven cross behind the defence from the near the bye-line, meat and drink to the likes of Shearer and Sutton.
Which manager would be brave enough to go back to that way of playing, though I admit it would be difficult given the paucity of traditional wingers in the game

We have scored more than 1 goal only 3 times in the last 17 games. That is ridiculously bad and it highlights the job Eustace is doing to have us anywhere near the top 6 purely on the basis of a solid defence. However it clearly means that it is very difficult to win games/get results unless you get a clean sheet. We have got plenty but its impossible to do it in every game, we havent in the last 4 games and because of that lack of ability to score goals we have only got 2
It’s the point I was trying to make earlier - that trying to keep clean sheets and nicking the odd goal isn’t sustainable over 46 games.
Without decent forwards and another creative midfielder we’ll slowly tumble down the table. And from where we stand at the moment that would be very disappointing

Eustace has just cut his cloth accordingly and made us very, very hard to beat. With the dearth in quality at this level you're always likely to get a chance or two to nick it from a corner / a defensive error.
Hard to beat is good, but it's not enough if the aim is to do more than just plod along in mid-table. It won't be sustainable over the course of 46 league games and came unstuck recently against Millwall and Hull and the likelihood is we'll continue to slip down the table from here.

Same number of goals as at the same stage of JDTs first season (same number of points too)
Thank you Statto. You're always there with the facts and figures.. I'm not complaining about the results overall this season by the way, only that Rovers are difficult to watch and, at times, it's hard to see how they will ever score a goal. .

Hate to be a party pooper but amid the euphoria of an unexpected point we do have to ask questions about the lack of quality up front and in midfield. Has there ever been a Rovers side that struggled to look threatening or score goals as much as this one?

So we’re a poor third in the queue
