  1. I've voted 'Yes' and generally I'm happy with the appointment. Not my first choice as I would have picked a manager who is proven in day to day running of a club. Like Strachan, Moyes even Dowie. However,Hughes has shown he can make a poorly preforming team play well, whether thats down to a crop of new better players or down to his amazing coaching, motivation and tactics is to be seen. A few questiuons will be answered this season. Can he when the honeymoon period is over turn round a bad set of results? Can we afford for him to make his mistakes on the way? Can he pick a player and purchase them at the right price and within a set budget? My thoughts are we are going to stumble through this season and survive by the skin of our teeth. But will the enthusiasm still be there in the close season. Only time will tell, but a new broom brings new ideas and I bet it won't be boring. Mark Hughes, this is your greatest challenge. For all the unanswered questions I hope you pass with flying colours. Whatever happens you will get my 100% backing.
  2. Mark Hughes for me is a huge risk to be the next manager. He has been in charge of Wales for 2 1/2 years mostly part time for approx 30 games with players who he hasn't bought. I feel currently he is on a crest of a wave (maybe even starting to descend it). What, other than giving a feel good factor, has he even achieved as a manager to receive 60% of a phone vote? We as a club NEED a manager who is proven to take a set of under achieving players who are currently in the relegation dogmire and form them into a TEAM and also to run the club as well. Hughes has done the first part with Wales for half of his reign but could he handle the day to day running? The wrong choice now could spell disaster at the end of the season. For what it's worth, Strachan or Moyes would be excellent choices.
  3. I'm more stunned that Newcastle wanted him rather than him joining them. His record in the last 18 months hasn't exactly been great. If you look at last year about 93% of us said that we had a BETTER squad than the year we finished 6th. With that squad Souness managed to get us to 16th. If he had gone when he over performed with a poorer squad (as when we finished 6th ) I would have been gutted, however, the only worry I have now is that we appoint a manger who is right for us. As for Stead going give us Ameobi and a couple of million and I will be happy.
  4. Also included the Burnley Citizen, bet they got a lot of interest from there!!!
  5. The only thing that I find strange is that it took so long for Rovers to decide to get rid of him. Why didn't they try straight after the season ended? We could have saved about £1/4million in wages (650 season tickets). I feel the decision is ultimately right, people get all messed up by Cole's upturn in effort in the last half dozen games and suddenly he's a crowd favourite. Up til then he was getting (justifiably) a lot of stick from the crowd (and this messageboard). Get rid now, save £1m - £3m in wages and find a replacement who will play for the shirt with passion. Andy Cole is NOW a 10 goals a season striker or in other words a mediocre premiership striker. So is definately NOT worth the reputed £55k a week plus £1m loyalty payment.
  6. About 10 people infront of me on Saturday about 10am. Lucky I downloaded my pack off the internet as I still haven't got it!!! Got told last Tuesday they had sent it out.
  7. Sorry Glenn I'm being thick here, what has actually happened with the kit?
  8. Andy Cole should he stay or should he go ? It's a dilemma I've been thinking over the last few days.My thought are Some points for : He has formed a successful partnership with Stead that looks like it could do very well in the Premiership next year. He has a long history of scoring lots of goals in the Premiership. He is (or is going to be) the only striker on our books with experience which is going to be invaluable to bring on our younger strikers. Some points against: He has only scored 11 league goals this year (and 7 last) Other than the first and last half a dozen games this season he has shown a lack of desire and effort. He doesn't talk much with Souness. He gets (allegedly) £50k per week and is due a £1m pay off. So with finances tight this year the dilemma for Rovers is : Scenario 1 Cost for Andy Cole next year £50k/wk or £2.6m plus £1m pay off = £3.6m Likely return = 10 - 11 league goals Scenario 2 Sell Andy Cole for £1.5m Likely pay off to him £0.75m Benefit to Rovers = £0.75m + £3.6m(none payment wages) = £4.35m So Rovers can pay £25k/week (£1.3m) plus a transfer fee of £3m to get a striker who can get us 10 league goals a season and they will have a few more good years in them and have a resale value. Looking at all the above I have to conclude that a new striker it is.
  9. In last night LET John Williams mentioned that meetings were taking place in regards to next seasons season tickets. Rather surprisingly he also said he expected sales to remain the same or even increase. Personally I feel that's utter claptrap. Assuming we stay up ( not counting any chickens) most probably they will decrease, maybe even more than last year's 1500 drop. With this in mind how do we bridge that loss in revenue. 1. Lower prices in the hope that this encourages a greater number to renew. Result - Never going to happen, Top tenner tickets hardly increases the attendance now so reducing seasonticket prices will have a corresponding reduction in revenue. 2. Increase prices drastically - screw the fans who like a drug 'need' the Rovers experience. Result - Probably work, but would totally alienate an extremely large number of fans. So less attendances year on year. This is an extremely short sighted plan. 3. Offer 2,3,5 and 10 year seasontickets. This would bridge the current years reduction in revenue but the club would be gambling with the next few years revenue as some people don't need to renew for a couple of years. If JW could get the balance right then if Rovers had a very good season next year the potential to get fans back would be great. I can't think of any other ways to get extra revenue, so I think using option 3 would be the best way of getting it back, but with the proviso of using any extra money generated to pay off any debts or invest to accrue more money.
  10. Obviously the LET have been reading this messageboard over the summer and realised Rev doesn't speak for the majority of Rovers fans!!!
  11. I don't know how big the demand is, but a friend of mine(neutral) rang up the ticket office this afternoon with no buying history (and therefore not on the database)and blagged that he paid cash for the CSKA Sofia home match. All the ticket office did was check his postcode (Nelson) and he got 3 (Yes, 3!!) tickets. No problem. So all I can say is any Celts in Lancashire will have no problem getting tickets in the home areas. Where that leaves us I don't know.
