[Archived] Andy Cole
Manchester Blue replied to The1mattjansen's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Well my answer would never be Cole simply because one player should never be able to remove the manager. I was behind Hodgson against Sherwood for the same reason. It's not because I blindly support the manager because anyone who sit's next to me would know that is not true. However for any club to succeed the manager must be in charge. If Souness went instead of Cole and I came in as a new manager, i'm talking hypothetically so bare with me, my first action would be to get rid of Cole. I don't care how hard done by he feels, by going to the PFA he lost any respect I ever had for him, especially when he had recently had time off due him getting himself sent off once again. -

I couldn't say for definite but i'd be almost certain you would have no problem there. The only issue they would have is with an adult trying to use a junior. -

But that's the point isn't it. Cole won't teach the youngsters anything other than bad habits. He is neither willing nor able to as he says so himself. Stead was reported as saying that Cole hadn't spoken to him for the first few weeks he was here. Is this sullen, disruptive, one-time top goalscorer the type of role model we want. I'll be disappointed if we don't replace Cole by all means but if we are going to use the argument that he is the second top scorer in the Premiership then why don't we bring Ian Wright in and Les Ferdinand, both have scored a lot of goals but are sadly past their best. However at least you will get effort and a good role model for the younger players. I'm very annoyed with Souness for not being able to sort this mess out. However I am equally annoyed with Cole who in my opnion has no wish to sort it out and is simply being as awkward as possible to force the situation. -

No problem Dr Rich, I do understand your point even though I was a little taken aback by the way you made it. Mainly because the intention was to raise funds not for any other reason. To be honest like you say I think that hopefully the issue has been raised sufficently now that it will make people aware. With regards to the front page I know someone must put time and effort into updating it but I have to admit that I always bypass it and go straight to the forums. As a result I wouldn't see any appeals for donations and i'm sure i'm not the only one. I think FLB summed up for me the reasons why people haven't donated previously and hopefully we can keep the board going with the money that seems to be coming in now. cheers -

All fair points Paul and I for one don't want any bickering certainly not about this issue anyway. I would point out anyone who took two seconds could see that the suggestions were intended to increase the funding for the board and for no other reason. Clearly certain 'members' of the board are a little too concerned with people's status. You may find it ludicrous but myself and quite a few others have expressed the opnion that we were not aware of a genuine need to donate. Believe it or not but as soon as Paul posted his notice I was genuinely happy to. I'm not going to repeat the argument but surely the point is to keep the board running in the best way possible. If that is to have a notice on the front page fine, it's good for me. You may well think your point has been well proved but I think just think you have proved how petty and argumentative you can be when people are making genuine suggestions that can either be taken on board or not. In ending I will make no more responses to your antagonistic rubbish other than to say I hope the thread can get back to the point of people contributing rather than picking fights. -

You've completely missed the point. The issue of having a message for contributors wasn't because they wanted recognition for it far from it. It was to encourage others and make them aware of the need for it. As I and others have said we were not aware there was a great need to contribute as such. I don't feel I have been shamed into contributing as I said earlier I am happy to do so it's just that the idea to do so didn't occur. If that makes me naive then fair enough but it doesn't justify a response like that. I wasn't part of the original 27 or should that be the Magnificent 27 as I wasn't on the site then. I couldn't care less about having recognition all I, and i'm sure the others who suggested it, want is to keep the site up and running and if possible free from the disruption that is happening, by any means necessary. I don't think many people would disagree that the cost of a pint a month is to much to ask and even expect. If people don't want or can't afford to contribute that's up to them but I for one wouldn't think less of them. If they are so self conscious that they are worried then it is for them to deal with. If that makes me pathetic then really I couldn't care less. -

LET reports that Cole & Flitcroft are in the party to Germany, Yorke & Todd left at home. It surprises me as Nixon said Cole is being sacked this week and wasn't going on tour and he is always right. -

What like the story that we had £15 million to spend this summer or the one about Duff going to Real Madrid. Even this one is so far wide of the mark that it is about 1% true if that. -

More Alan Nixon tripe, what is it with this man. If we are all going to try and contribute to the site can I suggest we also try and get some money together to hire a hitman for our good friend Mr Nixon. -

I think AS has a real point here. I appreciate it might look like you are highlighting those that haven't contributed but what's more important here. The running of the site or the feelings of a few over-sensitive souls. On another site that I visit they have a roll of honour listing everyone who has contributed every month. I'm not suggesting that but to be fair I have never contributed to this site but have gained an immense amount of pleasure from it. Why have I never contributed? Partly laziness on my part and also because apart from buying badges i've not seen much in the way of mails or the like asking people to contribute so maybe didn't realise it was a big issue. I saw Pauls post after Tris's had already made me feel guilty and rather than send a cheque off I did exactly what Paul suggested and set up a standing order. Now if I saw everyone else with a little sponsor sign and I hadn't contributed I might feel a little guilty and feel the need to give something back. -
Must be true then if it's on teamtalk. Incidentally I watched the reserves play a pre-season friendly at Rossendale Utd last year and the players that had been left at home then were Grabbi & Alan Mahon. I personally can't see Yorke & Cole up at Rossendale but you never know. I honestly expect to see Cole going to Germany.

That report says he is 'due' to leave them out. How on earth can they know that he is going to leave them out before the event unless the famous training ground mole has been up to their ususal tricks. I think we should wait and see when they fly out.

Paul I think that's an excellent post and probably explains the difference in the situations much better than I did. I don't want to keep harping on this thread and I think I've said much of what I wanted. It's good to see that a number of other posters appreciate that this issue is so much more than just a Liverpool or a Merseyside thing. I know that many of the sentiments are appreciated by those who have fought so hard for justice and I just wish those who dismiss that fight, whether deliberately or not, would just think how they would feel in the circumstances. -

Manchester Blue replied to SkemLad's topic in Messageboard Gold
Nonsense not only have you missed the whole point of the thread but you clearly have no understanding of it. The Sun has never ever been blamed for what happened at Hillsborough and never could be. It similarly hasn't been made a scapegoat either. Read this article, it may give you an understanding of why the Sun is so loathed. Sadly it may not either. The HJC is only in such a minor way anything to do with the Sun it is an insult to all the hardworking people who run the campaign and to the memory of those lost to suggest otherwise. I ask you to imagine if you had gone through what they had and then 4 days later wake up and read a headline like that, with stories saying you had robbed your dying friends, attacked and urinated on the police. Could you then come back and post stupid throwaway comments? -

I agree with you about the Heysel thing but so do many Liverpool fans so I think that's unfair. A lot of the reaons for that were the crumbling stadium, poor segregation and tickets being either sold to anyone or not even needed. Bradford was obviously a tragedy and I don't ignore it but many of the issues that arose from Hillsborough didn't occur there. As for Ibrox well again same applies, incidentally when reading the book I mentioned earlier I discovered that 33 people died and over 500 were injured at Burnden Park at an FA cup match. The home office enquiry criticised the police and ground officials for not realising what was happening and not acting quickly enough. All tragedies that shouldn't have happened but for some reason the Hillsborough one is still a prickly issue. Largely for the reasons I have mentioned. Finally I would ask if you still think ticket touts are to blame. How many people died at Ewood when we played Celtic, or at the Champions League final when Man U played Barcelona. There were large numbers of people getting in with forgeries then but the police did what they are paid to do and dealt with it. You got some angry fans but better than dead ones. -

You have just answered your point there. Obviously the World War and any war are horrific, they can't be anything else but they are wars and as such deaths are a consequence. You may well be able to dismiss 96 deaths at a 'sporting event' but I can't, it may be convenient to blame it on ticket touts but we know the real cause of the disaster. 96 people shouldn't die going to a football match. -

Well if people look hard enough it's not difficult to find more accurate accounts. Try reading Hillsborugh - The Truth by Phil Scraton. It's frightening the lengths that the police went to cover up statements, hide evidence and basically obstruct any enquiry. Or the Judge who decided that 3.15 was a cut off and no evidence after that could be considered. There are literally hundreds more incidents from this day and afterwards of injustices that have been carried out and never redressed. You don't have to take all your information from the papers. Vengeance has got sod all to do with it TND. Justice is all that is asked and that has never been gained so far. -

It does seem to be Alan Nixon every time. Either he has a real axe to grind or someone is feeding him with these stories. As I said previously the possibility of Cole leaving doesn't surprise me but for him to leave for free while we pay half his wages well sorry but i'll believe it when it's official but not in this rag. -

SP is presumably the Sunday People. Whilst the possibility of Cole leaving wouldn't completely surprise me I think i'd be amazed if he was sacked let alone paid off. -
Yes there are replacement buses running as the line is out till Sep 4th I think. I'd check the National Rail wensite to be certain but that's what I read the other week.

Tripe, tripe and utter tripe. That is one of the worst post I have ever read on this message board made worse by the fact that someone who is supposedly intelligent posted it. How on earth can you compare it to WWII. They were going to a football match FFS. The young men & women who gave there lives for their country in the war may just have had inkling of the danger that awaited them. What with the guns and bombs and stuff like that. These people were just off to support their team. The HJC do want to ensure it never happens again but the main thing they want, which is kind of given away in the name, is JUSTICE. Justice for people like Trevor Hicks who lost both his daughters aged 19 & 15. Justice for the people whose loved ones were left dying on the grass because inept police officers being led by an even more inept Chief Supt in charge of his 1st ever match couldn't do their jobs properly. I could go on for hours and hours about the disgraces that took place that day, about the appalling behaviour that has gone on since to cover up evidence, deny justice and just be as obstructive as possible. Lest we forget 96 football fans died largely because people who were paid to deal with them didn't do there jobs properly. Yet only the Taylor report has ever criticized the South Yorkshire police, no court or coroner has ever done so. Why i'm bothering I don't know but for the record, many of those responsible for the crimes during WWII have been tried and dealt with not one person has ever been charged over Hillsborough, not one. -
Can't get from Manchester Picadilly to Stockport at the moment.

Something to look forward to maybe at the pre-season games. Fulham game was abandoned as they had used the permitted 6 subs by half time.
