26 goals in 86 games for France, 101 in 306 in Ligue 1 and 34 in 146 for Arsenal, not bad as an option for 4th choice striker, especially when you consider that many of those appearances, especially for country and Arsenal were as substitute.

[Archived] Should Dunny Have Come Home?

It isn't though. Sky only pays that money to the leagues because it boosts their subscription to have premiership football, so it is because of the fans that Sky are willing to stump up that much cash and it is the subscription fees that are used. American, great minds think alike...sometimes. -
Most of them are from French colonies in Africa, Malouda is from French Guiana.

Not going to agree with that I'm afraid. Firstly, the fans are always key to sports and finances. Secondly, the trickle down effect from rich to poor when looking at it even on an individual sense is usually so small it isn't even worth looking at. David Dunn's contribution to the local economy (unless you are thinking of things like morale) is minimal; the contribution of the local population to David Dunn's finances is huge. -
To be fair to the guy he looked great at Everton and never really got his chance at Arsenal. Since then he seems to have lost the plot and that combined with injuries has seriously damaged his career. He certainly has talent, hopefully he'll start finding the back of the net when we call upon him. As has been mentioned, both Hughes and Eddie N. have worked with him before so they must have seen something.

I don't think France will be positive in this one. They have yet to put in a positive performance and I think they will stick to the defensive 4-5-1 and hope to get a goal somehow. They know their limitations and won't try and push it now that it is the big time.

David Dunn will never sort his fitness out, end of, forget about it. -
I do agree, the only problem with this is the odd player that does need 2/3 minutes of treatment and has to sit out for 10 minutes.
-
I've seen him for Southampton, in no way could what I have seen be described as crap. He may well not have been up to international level, not many are at his age, but he isn't crap.
-
That was Shearer and I agree that Portugal suffered last night becae of the reputation that they have built for themselves in the games against the Netherlands and England.
-
England only let in goals once during this tournament, so not really fair to say we can't defend and can't defend leads. As for not having world class forwards, Rooney can be easily taken out of the game? Oh, if it is that easy then I won't be worried about him when we play United next season. If you can accept the fact that Portugal looked odds on to score once (Figo missing a sitter) then you don't have much legs. I will also promise you that the French weren't very happy with that second half and were all very, very nervous. They thought Portugal would score.
-
Portugal took us apart? Beating us in a penalty shoot-out when we were down to 10 men for an hour is taking us apart? Actually, that has changed the outlook of the entire world cup for me, we ripped T&T, Paraguay and Ecuador to shreds then.
-
Yes, but they outplayed Portugal, we didn't play well but could easily have been in the semis. I just think this was a poor world cup, no one has really impressed so there is no need to pick out England. France have been awful and are in the final.

I think he probably did have a plan, but it was never right to use Walcott and there was no reason to stick him on for the sake of it just so that he could shut a few people up. I'm sure he expected to be able to put him on during the group stages, but tough games against Paraguay and T&T meant that it was never right while the Owen injury meant he couldn't come on against Sweden. Ecuador was another tough game and it was never right to bring him on. Maybe he would have come on against Portugal late in the game had we had 11 players on the pitch but the sending off meant we needed someone to hold the ball up with pace around him, with Lennon already on it made sense for the replacement to be Crouch. If someone can show me a moment in the game when they would have stuck Walcott on then that is fine, but having a 23 man squad doesn't mean that you have to use all 23 and it also doesn't mean that simply because he didn't make it on that he isn't good enough.

That isn't true Dakefyre. About 4 of them got around the ref wanting a free kick.
-
You mean when he went down clutching his face after not really being touched? Not a mention. I just think for a lot of other countries diving is part of the game and they only care about it when it is against them, but don't mind winning because of it. For British sides we have the mindset of the noble victory and a tainted victory isn't one that we want. I saw an interesting interview with Maradonna recently where he said that English players were the most Noble around and that South Americans struggled to understand why they would play in such a way when it was to their own disadvantage.
-
Agreed, unfortunately in the modern game it is difficult to get a penalty unless you hit the ground.
-
Actually Neekoy I did respond to it. My point was that there are players from every nation that dive; however, not every nation seems to have all 11 doing it and having it occur every game as a sort of tactic. The English don't regularly dive (as I said Joe Cole being the only real diver) and if you remember when Gerrard did dive he was ripped to shreds by the media and fans (Ian Wright excepted). Somehow I don't see that happening in other countries and it is testament to the fact that we do not consider it to be part of our game.
-
I'm sure he planned on playing him, but the opportunity never really presented itself.
-
Henry made the most of the penalty, but it wasn't a dive as such, he was fouled.
-
It was pretty stuff, but did the two sides arrange to just pass the ball around and go for broke in extra time? Neither looked liked scoring. You can keep the ball as well as you want in the middle of the park, good performances come from what you can do in the final third and until extra time it didn't look as if either side could do anything where it counted.

Even I want Italy to win the world cup. France have been that poor.
-
Could have been worse, he could have been nixono.
-
Italy must be rubbing their hands at the prospect of playing France.
