only2garners Posted July 12, 2024 Author Posted July 12, 2024 I still think that Pogacar will be the one to beat, although it’s not quite as obvious as it looked like being in the first few days. Tyrone - the first thing to understand about road cycling is that despite the fact that individuals win races, it’s very much a team sport. In any grand tour there are only a handful of riders that can win, even though there may be better all round riders in the race. For years Peter Sagan was the best rider in the world but he could never win the Tour. Likewise Mark Cavendish could either despite being probably the world’s best ever sprinter. Quote

The Pyrenees is usually where Vingegaard is the stronger of the two. It will be interesting to see how the next couple of days pan out. Edited July 12, 2024 by wilsdenrover Quote

I think they set up the route hoping: * Pog would build up a lead in the first half of the race * Vin would reduce the gap in the second half * Everything would (as you said) hinge on the tt. 1 Quote
Ianrally Posted July 20, 2024 Posted July 20, 2024 I’ve been over the Turini many times on a Monte but it looked much different today that it did in winter Quote
JPTSwindon Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 I bloomin love the Tour de France! Tour of Britain starts in a few days Sept 3rd - 8th - ITV4 for all the coverage! Quote
only2garners Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago Some pretty remarkable news about the 2027 Tour de France Grand Depart. We already knew that the first three stages would be in the UK. Stage 1 will be Edinburgh to Carlisle, stage 2 Keswick to Liverpool and stage 3 Welshpool to Cardiff. Stage 2 is the one to get excited about locally, as it comes right over the Forest of Bowland, straight past Ewood Park and then over Belmont, down to Eccleston and up Parbold Hill before racing into Liverpool. I’ve cycled pretty much the whole of that stage over the years, some bits of it many times. I’ll be out watching or might even volunteer to help - British Cycling want to recruit thousands and I’m already a member. 1 Quote
