I remember getting called out to a “ simple job “ on a radial arm drill. Broken taper pin in the elevating screw - an hour at the most. Broken bits out, new pin in. When I got the broken bits of pin out I discovered the elevating screw had been drilled through about 3 times and was really dangerous. Cut a long story sort what should have taken an hour took me exactly a week to complete !
