I'll be honest mate, it's hard to care right now. Aside from how bad things are at the club in general, the fact we are told there may be no permanent incomings means that even if we get a few pearlers, it won't be enough for anything more than mid table and repeating the hunt to develop another club's youngsters again next summer.

Sad state of affairs isn't it. I'm really trying to get excited for the new season but the lack of activity and paper thin squad just screams relegation trouble. We always get hit with injuries so the situation will only get worse from where it stands now.

For what it's worth I'd like us to be looking at Rhys Williams at Liverpool, Dewsbury-Hall at Leicester, Thomas Doyle at City and Anthony Elanga, Hannibal Mejbri & James Garner from United.

  2. Probably harsh to make solid calls on anyone at this stage of the season. If you do the same based on our friendly results so far, we're anything from L1 strugglers (edged by Fylde & lost to Bradford) to mid table in the Premier League (decent draw against Leeds).

Give the lads 10 games in the Championship, then we can start drawing early conclusions on the team & individuals.

I wouldn’t say 6 goals in 18 games playing up front for a promotion bound team is a great return.

It's not a bad return either, especially considering they weren't all starts.

Anyway the point was that Sheffield Wednesday made him look worse than he'd been anywhere else. The original point still stands.

I thought that was Middlesbrough. Let’s face it - he’s done next to nothing since he left Ewood.

He scored plenty when Middlesbrough were promoted. It was in the Premier League where he got limited game time and scored no goals.

My point was that Sheffield Wednesday became a bit of a graveyard for formerly decent players. Might be a bit harsh to instantly write people off that have played there in recent years i.e. Reach.

Because Rovers’ income is so low, our approach is to have a minimum spend for 2 years then a bigger spend in year 3, which means across the 3 years we pass FFP.

There’s plenty of different approaches all over the league, PNE for example keep their costs level(ish) across all 3 years.

Clubs with a higher income can afford to do 2 years big spending with 1 year lower - eg Derby.

The ideal way around it is the Brentford model - where you have high value assets to sell every year and you replace them with well scouted, cheaper replacements. We can’t do that because we haven’t sold anyone. The plan was always to sell Dack, but he did his ACL. We now need to sell Arma and quite frankly we’ve struck lucky that he broke through whilst Dack was injured, otherwise we would have no significant assets.

To be absolutely clear, last year was our chance - which is why many of us where pushing for Mowbray to be sacked. We now may as well keep him for 18 months.

This is so depressing to read but you're obviously spot on. It's something a well managed club could overcome but ours is being run into the ground.

Brereton stuff is getting a bit silly for me now, when he starts to even be of a decent championship standard we can talk about hype. As it is it’s delving into the world of grabbi and rochina

Grabbi was awful. Rochina was class and mismanaged. Look at their careers post Rovers. Brereton has shown neither Grabbi's Serie B goal scoring form or Rochina's fleeting moments of brilliance in the Prem & Championship.

But they are obviously not as good as Harvey Elliott. Whilst I stop short at fawning over him as many did, he was undoubtedly a successful loan signing. The aim is to create as good a team as possible, if a couple of those players are loanees then so be it. We would have finished lower without Elliott.

Obviously, there are so many things that we did get wrong, wrong manager, many other poor signings, tactics, contracts, you name it. But if loanees we can attract are better than what we have already, we should sign them.

Think you're spot on with that. You can potentially sign better players than you could afford to bring in permanently via the loan market. If that strengthens the team & the squad, then I don't see an issue with it.

The issue is when you turn to loans as the go to, instead of promoting your own youth (when they are potentially good enough) or signing someone permanently who could make an impact and be an asset to the club. To be fair though, in recent times we've done quite well with the quality of loan players we've brought in.

Nothing to suggest we will concede less under Mowbray. He admits it's not his way and we know has struggled organise things since being here.

Oh I fully agree it won't happen under Mowbray. He's had so long to sort it out. It's just what we should be doing.

For what it's worth, I liked what I saw of Ayala when he played. He just never plays. We're on for a hiding if we're relying on him being fit and one our main centre backs.

    Very worrying imo.

    Kaminski is good.

Defence- We need cover for both full back roles and hope that Wharton and Ayala stay fit.

Midfield- So worrying. So weak and feeble in this position. We will get destroyed. I hope they have some ideas about strengthening that area up. Mostly its inconsistent players, players who have never done it and injury concerns.

Attack- Hard to see where the goals come from when AA leaves. Brereton and Gallagher need to have the season of their careers to even get anywhere near 28 goals together.

Add Mowbray into this and its very worrying times

For me the work needs to start at the back. If we concede less, we won't need to directly replace 28 goals if/when Armstrong leaves. As you say injury concerns right across the squad. Galling to be continuously told that we're building something, yet one glance at the squad now and you could comfortably say its the most depleted of numbers and quality we've had since Mowbray joined.

Armstrong isn’t going to fire this club to promotion with the current squad, yet the goalscoring position is the hardest position to fill on the pitch…..

If half of the money is reinvested we could have a shot at a playoff place and for that reason alone I’d sell if the money is right and reinvested in the team.

Completely agree. Two big ifs at the end though.
