Excitement and flair, simple as that, our fans have been starved of it for so long that when they watched him in full flow, however fleeting, it was a joy  - bums off seat player.

Not sure he'd be reliable for a tough Championship  season though and as Mogga likes his 'defensive wingers', not sure he'd want him at this level...

Think he'd play wide of a 3 no problem to be honest. I think he'd more than hack it in the championship.

Connor Whickam from Crystal palace according to Nixon.

On loan I think that's a sensible use of the loan window. Given his size and his ability when fully fit, he should be able to score goals for us but it's certainly not one you'd sign permenant at this point.

Difficult it is for Rovers fans to accept, we are not an attractive proposition even with money.

The days of John Williams persuading people to come are long gone and I have to say Steve Waggot is in the not yet proved good enough category- Davenport is probably the only signing where silver tongues might have worked given Armstrong knew us already.

Results this month are going to be critical to convince potential loanees we are not facing imminent relegation.

Game time is what players would find attractive I guess and it appears the manager seems to have some pull in these situations given how most players openly discuss him being a reason to sign. If we can get further up the league it would probably help too.

Todays game was crying out for him having the last 25-30mins and giving us some width

Having had a quick look, Chapman was in the squad with no Fletcher, Huggil or Gestede in the squad... He's not getting a kick for them as it is, never mind when they're fit! Add the fact he's in the last year of his contract, I can't see him signing another one for them.

  5. People put too much emphasis on when or how you sign players... It doesn't really matter. If they're good enough then they will show it. At least if someone comes in now then they will be playing for their move and if their attitude doesn't fit and they don't integrate into our team spirit then they can be easily got rid of without stinking up the dressing room for the length of their contract.

Martin would be a good signing but would he settle for coming on in the last half hour or when Graham is out.Il be honest they are of a similar standing if we do have 4 mill to spend I'd rather it be kept for someone younger who can develop and take over the reins from Graham next season and beyond.

Martin's attitude is questionable too refused to play at Fulham when on loan as he wanted to go back to Derby when McLaren was re-appointed. Last season he preffered to pick up his wage and sit on the sidelines rather than go out on loan when Sunderland and a couple of other teams made offers

Would he have to settle for coming on for Graham? I'm not so sure. If you're trying to bring players in then you're looking to improve on what you have surely? If Martin made more impact then I'm pretty sure Mogga will have Graham on the bench.

If you bid too low for a player then you have no real chance anyway. And you run the risk of the selling club thinking you aren’t serious. Are we such a poor judge of the market prices?

It’s the equivalent of saying “you won’t win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket” - or more accurately “you can win the lottery you just have to buy a ticket” - which is subtly different.

I get what you're saying but perhaps the thinking is if you go in low then it might drive the top end price down... Anyway, it hardly matters. I have no problem with the club sticking cheeky offers in just as long as you can get something out of it at the end of it. They did well to get Armstrong at the price they did, it was dissapointing not to bring in more but we can still strengthen the squad for potentially better value for money in loan buy agreement... I just feel people are making judgement too early.

Very easy to stick a £750k bid in early doors. If you get laughed at and the player eventually goes for £4m then it is factual to say that we had a bid in for a player.

What you've described there is exactly what occurs when bidding for a player, you start low, they want more, if its out of our budget then it can't be helped. If you don't bid for a player then you have absolutely no chance of getting them at all. If someone like Coyle or Kean was in charge I'd definitely thinking the same but Mowbray doesn't strike me as the sort of bloke who'd play those types of games. Perhaps it's just naivety or blind faith on my part after getting lucky in having a decent manager for once.

The biggest surprise for me is seeing how many people actually believe that we were bidding £5 million and £4 million for players and have that sort of money to spend.

NOTHING that has happened since 2012 suggests that level of finance is or ever has been available for recruitment.

Then what are you suggesting then? I can only summise that you're implying that Mowbray is that disingenuous that he's put fake or token offers in for players...

How do you know he passed on it? Perhaps the players in question told him they weren’t interested in signing for us.

Preston and Ipswich are both established Championship teams and are arguably more attractive than newly-promoted Rovers.

I don’t think the window has been particularly inspiring, but some of the conjecture on here could be toned down a little.

Perhaps potential targets would also prefer loans to see whether they would consider signing for us permanently, given that we are a newly-promoted team with a chaotic background and a recent relegation.

Rich Sharpe asked Mowbray if we were interested and was told that weren't in for him.

I would take James Collins on a free. 34 but would do as cover and no fee plus experienced, could do a job. I am very aware we are not signing top end players at this time so don't need any backlash ?

Bakary Sako also a free agent

Collins at this level would be a good signing. I know people are hesitant signing players at that age after Etuhu and Murphy but we also had Berg and Short at centre half when they were about 35... Sako wages would be silly.

Nmecha to Preston has been the big one for me. We should have been all over that.

See for me it's Edwards... At that price given our budget, its a big opportunity missed. Given his performance right under Mowbrays nose at Ewood... We should have snapped him up. Can't fathom why he passed on that one.

Neal - don’t be too happy with our ‘bids’. There’s a small part of me that doubts their integrity. Two windows in a row that TM hasn’t spent close to our ‘budget’...something doesn’t smell right to me. Let’s hope I eat my own words and we have a cracking loan window.

Mate, I've been more cynical and skeptical of happenings at Rovers ever since they came in but are we really suggesting Tony Mowbray has such little inegritity and decency that he's putting in fake or token offers for players? I mean, nothing would surprise me after what we've endured but I just find that pretty hard to believe, especially given the random nature of the players targeted. I can totally understand after 8 years of absolute shit the cynicism from the fans but are we that damaged as a fan base that we can't trust anyone anymore? With Mowbray I think we can afford ourselves a little respite from it and finally trust in what appears to be the first genuinely decent spokes person at Rovers for some time... I hope I'm not wrong.

  14. I'm stuck between 2 feelings really... I'm positive about the fact we've tried to go out and bring in some genuine talent but I'm dissapointed we have taken a chance on some of the talent from league 1 as I think there is some good value to be had, especially if you look at Edwards and Maddison at Peterbrough. Although we were never linked, seeing Ulloa going out on loan to some Mexican side is dissapointing because I think he'd have done a real job here.

That aside, we can still bring bodies in and sign them in about 4 months time, so we'll have people coming in putting everything in for a permenant move and possibly getting them for better value now the window has passed.

I still think come the end of the window we'll be happy.

Obviously hyperbole is natural, a horrific window is an exaggeration, of that il give you. And there is, on both sides of the argument, people who exaggerate and are unreasonable.

But you can judge individual aspects of the managers performance without losing total faith in him. Just as if he picks a questionable team, or makes questionable subs on Saturday and we lose, people will criticise him. Or if he signs Adam Armstrong, or if he gets us a win with the correct team or a clever sub, he will get praise. Just like I can credit Coyle for signing Mulgrew, and I never had faith in him at any point.

I don't understand why people are so reluctant to criticise when he does make mistakes, or does things that could be interpreted in a negative way. He said he had money, had targets, and hes not got them over the line. Its ok to say that. But ive not seen one person suggesting that they want him sacked or anything, so its not fair to suggest that so many have lost faith in him.

I'm not saying he's not to be critised, everyone is worthy of criticism, there just seems to be a bit of a lack of faith that he's trying to make the right decisions in the transfer market. Or perhaps its a lack of foresight to understand what he's tried to do... He's waited for clubs like Forest to make their signings who now have bloated squads and might need to cut their cloth accordingly... Earlier in the transfer window when they're less desperate they may have demanded much more for a player like Brereton. We have a limited budget, he's tried to use it cleverly in a desperate part of the window... It's not come off, naturally it's dissapointing but it's not like we're in a position where this is our side till December. I still think we'll be satisfied come the end of August.

  16. I can't believe the lack of faith in the manager. Most of you know my feelings of the owners and how critical I've been of the club over the years but this guy has earned the right for us to trust him. Now I'm not saying people shouldn't be dissapointed but to make out that it's been a disaster, horrific or a shambles is a massive over reaction in my view... Especially as we can still bring in players and simply sign them in 4 1/2 months, whilst giving them extra motivation to earn their contract. I'm pretty sure Mowbray has even discussed testing clubs late in the window to get better value for money.

Its been a long time since we've had a decent enough manager in charge that we can actually trust. Today has been an indication of what type of quality he wants to bring in, surely we can take the positives from that? To have a manager with actual aspirations is something we've been robbed of for 8 years... So trust him for gods sake, he's earned it. Yeah, signings might not have come off but if we pull of some great loans with agreements in place before the end of the month I guarantee we'll have less folk complaining.

    In Mowbray I trust.

and we didn't get the players in we needed despite the fact we've had all summer to try to do so.

    Bottom 4/5 squad.

Still have the loan window to essentially make as good as permanent signings though? If anything, signing someone playing for a contract in 4 1/2 months is surely going to get the best out of them?

It’s possible we have been talking to Forest all day, just because it was announced at 4.30pm or so doesn’t mean it happened at that instant.

    Dont talk sense mate...

To sum up today... We only have monopoly money, we make fake bids for players, we have no transfer policy, we should have sacked Mowbray for Hurst and we're going to get relegated.

    Been a good laugh.
