Why would we need to change his position halfway through the season? And more to the point, since when has that been a rare occurance? As you say, he's a big boy, if he needed to change he would cope.

Absolutely right. I'd throw in penalty taking as another reason, but I cant see it being relevant. Ferguson is also very adept at the Tim Sherwood-esque late run into the penalty area, his goals vs Birmingham and Liverpool last season being prime examples of this.

And what about the tactical change he made to the way we played last season, the new way in which he deployed Douglas and Flitcroft, that was a major part in us winning 4 games on the trot and securing our Premiership status for another year? Selective memory?

Bearing in mind it's a month away and we'll almost certainly have further squad changes - Friedel Neill Matteo Amoruso Gray Thompson Tugay Ferguson De Pedro Stead Dickov In particular I think the midfield looks very strong, up front we've got two players that will work their socks off for us, and defensively we're looking stable for the first time in a while. Looking forward to it now.

I think that may have been down to Stam aparently calling Gary Neville a 'ç_nt' in his autobiography. Not particularly good for team morale that. I havent read it, but I believe he also made reference to Ferguson "tapping him up".
