[Archived] Lucas Neill
FourLaneBlue replied to juggalo_rover's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Why? Because Barcelona are interested? Surely in that case by that logic you must rate Boumsong pretty highly too seeing as he has just moved to Juve? Neill is a good defender: reliable, determined and seemingly impervious to injury...but not a great player by any stretch of the imagination. -

Sellars, Cowans, Batty, Tugay. -
McClaren dropped Beckham to make a point - that he was his own man and not just Sven's lackey. Unfortunately by not recalling him into the squad when other midfield options are injured (Cole, Hargreaves, Lennon) he is just making himself look like a baby. I'm not Beckham's biggest fan but he should be in the squad. Certainly ahead of Jermaine Jenas.

The LET have had the news about the Bolton price on their website for a few days...have they actually put it in the paper yet?

[Archived] Lucas Neill

How is that any different from Neill? Of course his employers are looking for replacements and if they found anyone better they wouldn't renew his contract whether he wanted to or not. Some posts seem to be suggesting that Neill is far removed from normal life but his actions are the same as what everybody else would do. When they have worked five years or so for a company in the same job they would often also want something new and maybe a chance to work at a different company with different ideas. For fans to call him a judas or anything else is hypocritical. If he was requesting a transfer or refusing to play then fair enough but he isn't. In fact, he is continuing to do exactly what he is paid to do for the length of time the club asked him to when the contract was signed. -
Yes, also went to see it last night and it's excellent film with a lot of twists at the end. Nicholson is unsurprisingly good in it but so too is DiCaprio who gives a great performance. There are some aspects that don't seem to make too much sense when thinking about it afterwards but all in all, recommended. Plenty of red herrings too

It probably sounded better than him saying he felt he was too big for them. -

Daily Telegraph - Greek Odyssey for Souness? Well...he may not have gone to Palace (there have been reports that he actually turned down the job as he didn't want to uproot his family again) but that doesn't mean we have heard the last of Souness...he is being linked with a move to managerless Greek giants Panathanikos, former European Cup finalists and the only Greek side to reach a European final. As well as The Torygraph it's also been in the paper that doesn't like us very much, The Daily Mirror. What would make this so interesting is this...Panathanikos are in Group G of the Uefa Cup, alongside PSG, Rapid Bucharest, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Mlada Boleslav (a Czech team). They will certainly expect, as top seeds, to come through that group. Imagine if we ending up playing a Souness side in the knockout stages? It'd be quite a story... Another article here from the very impressive new Rovers part of the website Vital Football; Souness to go Greek? -

It doesn't seem to be anything that he hasn't said before numerous times and he hasn't actually said anything about Blackburn...just that he wants to leave for a bigger club. So it'd be nice if he could be slightly more diplomatic but he does seem to be incapable of not saying what is in his head at the time or keeping his mouth shut when asked. In fact, he's just being honest. Don't care about him leaving but we're unbeaten in six so no need to change anything just yet. -

Well...apparently he rarely speaks to any British media other than Sky, not sure but it may have been due to all the negative press surrounding the Carragher incident. -

Oliver Kay in The Times yesterday suggested that "Liverpool offered little more than £1.5 million in August". So it was hardly worth taking...especially as it was so close to the transfer window closing that it left no time to bring in a replacement. Neill still in frame as Benitez seeks bite at the back... -
Hoping to watch 'The Departed' this weekend...it has been getting superb reviews.

Lucas may not be able to keep his fat gob shut but as long as he is playing well there is no point rocking the boat by taking the armband off him and certainly no need to keep him out of the team. It's in his interest to keep playing well if he wants the big move he has dreams of...so it suits both parties. If I were you I'd expect him to slag off the town a la Henchoz when he does leave though, he doesn't seem that taken with the place -

He's still here but a website is speculating about who would replace Hughes if he does. Later rather than sooner in the case I hope... Future Rovers Managers edited -

Well said, that is exactly why this competition is so important. -
Heck...It's on the website now!!! Hopefully it will be in the actual paper tomorrow...I take it back! Well done the LET... Rovers bonus for all fans EDIT - Blueboy...they have finally got round to it so ignore my post

Think I'll email the local rag and ask why on earth there is no mention of this in today's issue!?!? If the LET is really behind our team they should be shouting this from the rooftops and telling people - and now....not a day before or whenever!

For years there has been the argument as to whether cheap tickets really will bring in those who have lapsed...yet usually it has been for unattractive fixtures such as early round of the cup or not so attractive opposition such as Charlton and Fulham, who rarely if ever bring a large following. Yet nobody can state that a local derby at home to a high-flying Bolton team isn't one of the bigger games. They are connected by a train line and it's a short drive through Darwen that connects the towns. This should be the answer to whether Rovers lowering the prices will result in a much larger attendance. Man City and Wigan were both well under 20,000. It'll be disappointing if such an initiative doesn't see another 10,000 on the gate - I'd expect Bolton will be bringing many more fans in any case so it certainly isn't too much to ask.

[Archived] *Poll* Barry Ferguson

Hmmm...could this be a case of opposites attract? -
Our opponents had a harder time getting to the group stage than us... Feyenoord - Only beat Levski Sofia on away goals Wisla Krakow - Needed extra time to finally beat Iraklis of Greece, this was after they LOST their home leg. If Iraklis can win there then surely we have a chance? Nancy - Impressively beat Schalke 04 but only after losing the first leg in Germany. Basel - OK...well they had it easy, winning 7-2 on aggregate against Rabotnicki...but then again, who are they? No need to fear.
-
William Hill - Uefa William Hill have made Spurs the favourite to go farthest in the Uefa Cup out of the four remaining British clubs. Spurs - 6/4 Rovers - 3/1 Newcastle - 3/1 Rangers - 7/2 Fancy a bet on that...Spurs have a tougher draw than us I'd say.
-
Tottenham and Newcastle have far tougher draws than us...stop worrying and enjoy it folks!
-
Bert gets to play his old team... and Christian Gross is still the manager at Basel.
-
Don't they have to draw us first?
