Well there seemed to be a steady trickle when I popped down this afternoon. There was at that time four booths open and everyone seemed to be there for Basel tickets. As for 'promotion'...not sure how this kind of pricing can be described as a 'promotion'. It's the early stages of the Uefa Cup, teams like Middlesbrough and Bolton had gates of around that last year while also having cheap tickets. £15 is a reasonable price for such a game. I don't think £30 is. Tottenham will no doubt charge far more for their game; however, is the average wage in North London the same as that in East Lancs? The club has to price its product for its customers, it means we can't expect the same from ticket revenue as Spurs but tough. That's life. If the prices were £30 for all then how many would be there? Actually...just checked...Middlebrough for the group games last year saw 12,953 against Dnipro and and 9,436 against Liteks Lovetch. As for Bolton they got, against Zenit St Petersburg, 15,905 and 15,623 against Sevilla in the group stages. We could well beat those attendances tomorrow...so I don't see how it is fair to bemoan the numbers going. Seriously...how many could we really expect to get for a Thursday night November match against Basel? Hopefully a gate of at least 16,000 or so will be there tomorrow.

Are we going to have the Lancashire United debate again? Please no....no....no.......! As for the Riverside - it won't be redeveloped anytime soon. Whatever future ambitions the club had a decade or so ago are now firmly on the back-burner due to declining crowds and our own outlook which is rather short-term. There is a genuine fear that relegation would hit the club very hard and so funds are directed towards the team whenever possible, not renovating a stand (and ground) that is rarely full to the brim anyway.

It wouldn't have stopped the goal against West Ham but having a player on each post would have given us a good chance of stopping the goals conceded against both Liverpool and Wisla Krakow. Yet on Sunday there was nobody on the back post meaning that Brad had a lot of area to cover. Wouldn't have made any difference as Mullins smacked more or less in the centre anyway from a few yards out but seriously... What do they do in training? Surely if we are conceding goals from corners we should have someone on both posts? Bring another forward back or something, it's not like we seem that great on counter attacking from opposition corners anyway. -
It certainly never will if they aren't going to being given a chance in the team despite the more established players under-performing. Peter had a decent game today and certainly no worse than Pedersen has been on occasion this season. Yet despite being thrown into the thick of it he is being written off forever by some idiots. Yet I also read on this board that some thought that Bentley had nothing about him and would never be much good...and that wasn't that long ago... Rather than giving young players encouragement there are too many Rovers supporters who write them off if they don't make an impression like Wayne Rooney. Some board members on here are (rightly) derided by most others for their knee-jerk reactions to a solitary game. Yet when it comes to the younger players it seems that they are, however, fair game.

Krakow's goal also came from a corner we failed to properly clear. Would having had a player on each post made a difference in any or all of these situations? -
Punishment reduced for Italy trio Juventus, Fiorentina and Lazio have all had their point deductions reduced. Juve have had theirs reduced from a seventeen point penalty to just nine. Not that it made any difference as they are streamrollering Serie B anyway. After drawing their first game they have now won seven games in a row and there is little doubt that we will be seeing them back in Serie A next year. In fact, even with their eight-point deduction they are only four points off the top.

No idea Philip, I must have been drunk myself! Anyway it's not good for you, which is why I'm knocking it on the head. Gray should as well, rumours of his drinking started at Sunderland and seem to have finally led to Hughes refusing to consider him again. As was seen by McEveley getting the starting left-back place on Wednesday. Maybe if Mickey Gray had knocked it on the head sooner he wouldn't being linked with a loan move. Gray for England? Nope...Gray for Leeds Vital Football think Andy Todd is on his way out too...

Was the referee English? No. It was his evidence that apparently led to the decision by UEFA. -
Generally I think this is a myth, there might be some people who like to go along just for the game even when not supporting either team but the numbers must be tiny. I'd expect most of those in the nineties who started coming back were either lapsed fans or locals (from East Lancs) anyway.

"potatoe"? What are you - Dan Quayle? -
There was a West Ham player in the late eighties/early nineties (name escapes me) who had a great technique...took a long run-up then smashed it. It always went the same place but it was so well struck the keeper couldn't get near it. Not Julian Dicks, although he did seem to pick up on the method. Best way to take them, none of this small run-up and then softly side-footing into the keeper's arms rubbish we saw twice on Sunday.

Read recently that Robbie Savage a few seasons ago slotted home seven out of seven penalties for Birmingham one season. Took over from David Dunn apparently. So, with a record like that, Robbie Savage it should be then!

On the other hand; if we win this then get an easy draw in the next round we will be in the quarter finals before we know it. -

This is one of the responses to the article in the LET which features the Premier League praises Rovers for their price cuts. "Colm Lambert writes: While any effort by clubs to make themselves more affordable should be applauded, one has to ask why Rovers don't do the same for games against the bigger teams in the area, ie Man United and Liverpool. It can't be because they're guaranteed a big crowd for these games whatever they charge, can it? The Premiership shouldn't be patting clubs on the back for one-off price cuts, but rather asking why they need to cut prices in the first place and looking for a long-term solution." Bloody hell! Talk about getting negatives anyway you can! Fifteen quid for a Bolton derby is a very fair price yet it seems they should charge little for games where they already get big crowds. Proof that Rovers cannot win sometimes. Rovers seem to be trying more than any other club in the Premiership to make football affordable for their fans yet some people still refuse to meet them halfway.

The Lancashire Telegraph has FINALLY mentioned the price cuts for Sunday on the back page, albeit not the main story as obviously the game last night takes precedence. There is also an advert in tonight from Rovers showing the club really are pulling out all the stops. However, they really need to build on this tomorrow and make it, at least, the main back page story for one day at least surely. No too much to ask is it?!? Come on LT, you can do it!

Read the article again, the paper mentions the pricing as the main reason for what should be a full Darwen End. "Wanderers supporters, who have had their interest sparked by their team's recent surge up to third position in the Premiership, have responded enthusiastically to Rovers' radical initiative to slash prices by more than half for the derby duel, which attracted a crowd of 28,862 in 2002-03 season but which last season was watched by only 18,180." You organise it Cletus! Seriously though, they need to pull out the stops for the next few days and get behind such a great offer.
-
No mention anywhere again about £15 tickets for the Bolton game in today's Lancashire Telegraph. Talk about leaving it until late, this should have been jumped on a week ago so as to lead to steady ticket sales. The local paper has let the local club down on this. Rovers deserve better from a paper that lives on news from the club.

If I recall correctly his contract ran out, he refused to sign one because Flowers was keeping him out the team. The next season Flowers was replaced by John Filan anyway.
