Later in transfer window 500k + add ons.

After seeing the posh chairman’s tweets, perhaps my glass half full attitude is telling me that we’ve almost signed Marcus Maddison. Either that or the 4 cans of Red Stripe...!

    Alan Mixon @Reluctantnico  Just now

Unusual, 2 cans incoming, Jamacian, 56 easy payments, might only be one, unbelievable

    Bit in paper #rovers #venkys

    Everyone?!

This ain't a 7 year olds sports day. It's the World's biggest event for it's most popular sport, which only happens once every 4 years.

    3 out of 32 teams. 9%. Get a prize.

    There's a winner, a runner up, and a 3rd place winner.

That's why this game does actually mean something to me. Because 4th place really is a losers spot.

Only one winner all the rest are losers.* Maybe the team who gets beat in the final should get another chance to finish a winner and not a loser? Certainly deserve it more than a team they or their opponents beat previously. Could go into a three team group with the semi losers?

Suppose the FA see it as important an extra 1.5 million if England win (18.1 instead of 16.6 million)

    * this is no way playing down Englands campaign, achieved a lot better than many expected including me

Anyway hope you enjoy the game

Maybe it's just me. But I don't have any interest in the 3rd placed match or the final. . . and that's after watching pretty much every game, give or take a missed start here and there.

Perhaps it's because normally when England go out there's still half a tournament still left to play. This time it's pretty much all over, so it is basically all over.

I feel the same, bit too much of a everyone gets a prize about it ,we are all winners etc

Not good enough to get to the final, go home and try harder next time :)

What next with the World cup expansion? 23 rd place play off?

  4. Tweet from Skybet Championship official asking for predictions on who will win it, get in play offs and who will be relegated , only a couple of people predicting relegation for us (actually a couple more but they are bitter Dingles), two or three tipping us for the play offs

Why? Just because they've valued him irrationally high? I wonder if a League One CH has ever moved for 2 million, let alone with 12 months left on their deal.

Indications around the time our interest was first reported suggested to me that Charlton hugely upped their price suddenly. Just the impression I got reading between the lines.

Harry Maguire ? Sheff Utd to Hull

There was a also a Bolton player that went to Arsenal for over 2 million (not sure if this was just after they went down to L1)

Slightly stretching it but one just moved this month (so officially league 1) from Sunderland to Boro , Paddy (something) for about 5 million

But yes you are right not many CH's have moved from L1 for more than 2 million, compared to other positions

Edit: List of transfers from League 1 in transfer fee order (going back about 10 years or so it seems) Link

  6. Think the Sweden team are pretty much like one of their famous companies, once you figure out their instructions there is always a piece of the puzzle missing, once you work around it ,  a swift turn of a Alli(n)(sic) key  and a short time later the whole lot comes crashing down.

Fingers crossed it's football's and not meatballs coming home !!!

Maybe TM is saving up the £88m needed for Cristiano Ronaldo?

Not for me , all he does is score goals from free kicks and he is over 29, doesn't fit the criteria, would also probably struggle at right back when asked to fill in there. Also bit of a sulker would destroy team morale

You seem to be forgetting the wage and facility cost will rack up debts, without any investment. Hence why maximising turnover can only be good if it’s not too harsh on customers. As for FFP, a examples have skirted the rules but when a few have also been in embargo, and one or two are facing huge fines.

See it as an excuse if you must, but I personally would rather they continued to give an annual playing budget and allowed the club to function at arms lengths with a reasonable budget for keeping our grade 1 academy and other important aspects of JW’s legacy going.

Agree with your second paragraph , boom or bust is too risky at the moment for us ,and if the current strategy gets us back to where the club was then fine, but they still need to wipe off the debt that they have created.

Think the post above from JH covers the first paragraph very well.

    Invest what? More “share capital”?

All that means is more debt. More debt = less likely to ever get rid.

Most of the debt is owed to the family, most of the debt as been racked up by them and their mates. Easy to wipe it off if they were really sorry for their disgraceful ownership of the club.

As for investing in the actual team ,other clubs seem to have found a way around FFP, but for some reason our lot welcome the restrictions with open arms.

I still can’t fathom this “I want Venkys to invest” alongside this “I want Venkys out”... two very clear and distinct things that do not tally together.

Invest to get the club back to where it was (position/funds etc) upon their and their friends arrival and then sell up ?

How about commenting on tonights game.

No let him carry on , I'm waiting to see how he jumps from bald albinos (a strange one in itself) to Northcote, Walker Trust or FUP (free unripened pickles ? ) via Alex Ferguson / Man Utd

He did go to Hull on loan a couple of years back, but I think they were in the Premiership then. I thought he looked like a very good player at times for Liverpool. Realistically  ,I doubt we could sign him, would be a massive coup.

Surely with the line of business our glorious owners are in, a massive coop shouldn't be a problem
