I'm liking the sounds from the camp, all very positive. Need the result now. This is definitely must not lose and not far off must win if we want automatic promotion
Giles to left wing back and then all that remains is who starts up top with Brereton. Surely Gallagher or Hedges. I would have Khadra off the bench
-
Great to see Dack get his run out the other night. Sad to think he has missed so much time. What a story if he contributes some crucial goals to our promotion campaign

Lenihan surely a shoe in to start the Republics next few games at centre half. Deserves to move ahead of Egan imo
-
I hope he doesn't upset the balance and before anyone says it, I know hes arguably our best player
Ya, know maybe upfront in a front 2 will suit him
-
Going off what I have tread though, it seems like a lot of clubs are tightening their belts, so the lads might be surprised. Then again, the way Lenihan , in particular , is playing he could probably get a move to a newly relegated club, at least
-
If we weren't doing well it may have been an option. It's massively in his interest to see this season out with us though

Given that Harry Chapman isn't playing much at Burton, I think that, if it was possible, the club should recall him and have him in the squad as Poveda's replacement. It would be another sharp about-turn by Mowbray, who has, apparently, fallen out with Chapman, but the club extended his contract for a year, in the summer, and he showed some glimpses of a desire to contribute early this season.
There might be doubts about Chapman's attitude and his struggles at Burton (after an excellent loan spell at Shrewsbury previously) raise further questions, but my estimation is that he has real talent and will be an asset as an impact sub, at least, if motivated and fit.
I would hope we would sign someone far better to replace Poveda. Chapman is a busted flush

I personally think the Ipswich link is lazy journalism
I would be very very surprised if we see him leave the club. On the plus side it would save us a few more dreary seasons and if the links with Neil are also still true then a manager with a recent record of promotion has a 4th place side full of beans to walk into
If anything, as silly as it sounds, it could be the perfect time to attract a serious manager
The links to Neil wouldn't excite me in the slightest. Absolutely underwhelming appointment that would be IMO

I totally appreciate that Bournemouth are a team in 2nd who have ample resources and a good team, therefore an away game there is going to be tough.
But we need to get out of the habit of potentially seeing games as a "free hit" if we are genuine about competing for the play offs. We are 4th in the league, there is no need to write off any game or treat any game as a bonus one before a ball is kicked. It takes me back to when we played Brentford away the other year, we was just outside the play offs and we went 2 up in a chance to make up ground and ended up throwing it away and drawing. Afterwards I came on here and the majority were happy with a point regardless of being 2 up as "they would have taken a draw prior." Totally the wrong mindset IMO.
Also, they have drawn their last 3 and won only 1 in 6. We have picked up 4 wins and a draw in our last 5. Why go there pre empting defeat?
I think we can definitely beat them
-
I just hope it doesn't impact his form, because what I predict is teams will try and get him for less than we want and it'll run all Jan and he won't end up leaving

Bye Ben, thanks for the memories.
Transfer tavern lol
It's the exact same quotes from the LT the other day. Obviously if a big enough bid comes he was leaving, was it ever going to be any other way?

A bad January widow whilst doing well would be peak Venkys
Hopefully they surprise us

That’s how you effect a change of manager. One out, one in, all within 24 hours. Then we have the Chicken Chokers.
Ya but could say they made a huge mess appointing McCavoy in the first place. Many on here predicted it would end exactly like this

I suppose a lot depends on what team we put out. I can’t see any of the key players being risked, especially if we’re still in the top six.
Same for them I suppose
For us it's a game for the Carters, Butterworths , JRCS and Davenports

Reading Mowbray's comments in the press I would tend to agree with the theory that he is getting his views out into the public domain, putting a bit of pressure on the owners and trying to avoid any finger of blame in his direction if the owners start playing silly beggars again in January.
I find it interesting how the Armstrong sale and substantial windfall is now just history. No mention of that cash or any reinvestment of it. Gone, Done, Dusted, forgotten about, move on.
I think Mowbray is expecting similar in the event of any sales - the money will just go and he will have to try and pull some more rabbits out of the loan market hat. Only so long that can go on.
Some might say this is fair enough, the owners have spent heavily in the last few years and are entitled to claw some money back. Of course they are. But by the same measure you would expect billionaires who are determined to get back to the PL to sense an opportunity this season and to show the money for some key additions rather than sales.
You would also expect them to push the boat out to keep Brereton under long term contract rather than hide behind self-imposed wage structures. It is simple - if the cost of paying him more for the next couple of years is less than the amount it puts on his transfer value then it is worth doing. If a new contract costs the club a few million but adds £10 million to his transfer value it is worth it.
My view is that there has been radio silence from the top owners in India - Mr and Mrs Desai - for at least a year now. Because of that Mowbray has been unable to persuade them to release funds or issue new contracts and I think there is plenty of evidence for that in the state of the contracts and recruitment which has been extremely short term and low cost since summer 2020.
Ya, absolute credit to Mowbray for managing to mold such a team operating under those conditions- right?

Horrible manager. Trashed all of the existing team replaced the lot and then drew with Barrow. Ipswich have consistently created very talented youngsters. Roy Keane started the rot and then the three “appauling “managers. Paul Jewell,Lambert and Cook who was appointed before the takeover.
“Cooks biggest winning run was 2 matches. He managed that once in 44 games.”
The US millionaire owners will probably get it right this time.
They were hardly setting the division alight before Keane arrived.
Be interesting to see who they appoint next, some big names being mentioned
Just shows again, no guarantees to get out of League 1

Agree on the Johnson comments.
His experience was vital. There was one challenge in particular which probably would have given him negative points on the above scoring mechanism as he gave away a foul, but it meant that the PNE defender was completely unable to turn and get the ball up the pitch quickly. Johnson simply put his knee in to the back of the full back's knee making him fall on his face.
U SMART BRO, U SMART!
Yep, the dark arts. Ayala is good at them too.

Personally, I don't think he is as good as as Wharton and I'd rather give another of our youngsters, (Carter) the chance rather than push him out of the picture by signing Van Hecke.
I think Van Hecke is a better player than Carter, so I would prefer him.
It's great to have local players in the team, but its not the league of gentlemen local shop, for local people, it's the Championship

Hughton might be a good fit for them

There is nothing wrong with the pitch tbh. Had so much rain on Saturday it was hardly a surprise to see it sodden. Drained ok when the rain relented a bit.
Hopefully. Just last year it was very bad at one stage..I know it's not easy to maintain when you're just patching it up basically, so I'm not critisizing the staff
-
Ah not a bad draw, not glamorous, but not far for the team to travel and it's definitely winnable.
Many of their league 1 squad left? Probably none
-
I wonder is signing Van Hecke on a permanent realistic

I agree that nowhere does the article imply that there is doubt that he will be here next season. But what it doesn't state, is that the option has been triggered
The option will be triggered, if it hasn't been already. I think this is a non issue

“If Brereton goes, the first question in my mind is how much of the money are we getting? Or are we not seeing any of it?”
Evidence of the absolute negligence that will always be hindering us under Venkys.
The manager should know if and when a player is sold, how much of the money would then be available.
Venkys just make it up as they go along and leave the manager forever in the dark, always have done and always will do.
Venkys out!
I have noticed a few comments the last few days from Mowbray where for the first time he is poking a little bit to say "hey lads, this is our chance, get the f**king cheque book out"
For what good it will be worth. Hopefully Waggott gets a backbone and tells them this is the time to spend.

The Boro game was decent, but ya the Sky cameras I think haven't always led to good performances and results. As Mowbray said though, these are the nights the players should be living for and cherishing
