I think I would probably stick with the back 3 for now for as long as we have 3 available centre backs, but if we was to lose one more, then I think that would be the time where we have to abandon that system and go to a back 4.

One thing that a back 4 could potentially do however is get Pickering and Giles in the same team.

Ya I would stick as well. Just with Pickering and Nyambe back in.

Giles could maybe play on the left up top, with Brereton on the right

I think Brereton is under a bit of pressure as we all know, we don't have anyone else who scores as regularly. A lot of his goals early on were from nothing really and maybe he's just a bit fatigued or lost that bit of sharpness

  2. Should have cashed in if we were offered over £3 million. Doesn't strike me as a lad who will put the clubs aspirations above his own when the chips are down. I think he's a tools down sulker.

As Mowbray correctly said we could have signed 2 players from that money. Celtic signed O'Reilly for just over a million and he looks a great player.

I would be delighted to be proven wrong on this and for Rothwell to have an amazing end to the season, but I can't see it.

Big selection call for a game we really need to win. Do we stick with the formation that was the catalyst for our run or try and switch things, maybe going with a 4-4-2 with Giles left and Dolan right with Gallagher and Brereton up top?

Nyambe has to come in, he shouldn't have been dropped, Zeefuik hasn't looked very good. Pickering for me would start if fit.

The false 9 role (Buckley had been good there prior, so the idea that Mowbray is an idiot for playing him there is nonsensical) is a key one if we stick with the formation, Buckley does deserve dropping and Dack isn't yet fit, do we play Dolan or Hedges there? And would they be that third midfield man in the same way that Buckley is? Also, Lenihan being missing may upset the balance.

    Kaminski

    Van Hecke Ayala Wharton

    Nyambe Travis Rothwell Pickering

    Gallagher Dolan Brereton

Subs: Pears, Giles, Zeefuik, Hedges, Khadra, Buckley, Johnson

I suppose the only reason to switch to a back 4 I see, is to keep someone on the bench in case another gets injured or sent off. Who is next in line? Magloire? If we did go back 4 , I would be tempted to go with Ayala and Wharton. Ayala can bring leadership and experience.

But again, your question was, who was played out of position. Not why did we lose.

No ,another poster said we lost because Mowbray played players out of position and you then gave 3 examples of players who didn't actually play out of position

    Are you ok?

If he ended up at right back for most of the time he was on, then that’s where he played as far as I’m concerned.

Otherwise, I think we lost because we weren’t good enough on the night.

We didn't lose cos he brought Hedges on there, as you say, we lost cos we weren't good enough. We were second best in every way, missed chances and defended surprisingly poorly

Ryan Hedges came on at right back.

I’ll bet he’s never played there before last night. Particularly as he’s left footed….

He didn't start there though, we were losing at that stage and I suppose it was just get as many attackers on as possible and hope it breaks. Personally I would have brought on Nyambe, but I don't think its fair to say we lost last night because Mowbray has reverted to playing players out of position.

We’ve stopped making chances to score. I reckon we had two decent chances last night. Buckley’s and Rothwell’s , other than that it was all huff and puff.

Our set pieces bring us nothing. We never look like scoring from free kicks and we’re not much better from corners.

They took a corner from their right and deliberately over played it to a guy coming in from wide out left. He totally was unmarked and got onto the ball. The next corner from that side they did exactly the same thing and he was still totally un-marked !

Ya it was inexcusable for that tp happen twice in quick succession

Have nerves crept in with us I wonder? Missing Brereton for 2 games didn't help either

That doesn't make them the right positions. For me both are attacking midfielders. Rothwell is playing too deep. Buckley is not a number nine, false or otherwise.

It was all working well up to a few games ago. Rothwell was making those decisions to drop back and get the ball. He was paying CM, that's his favoured position.

Is Buckley really playing false 9 though? He's more of an attacking midfielder

I wouldn't be against swapping them though.

The main issue is we have stopped scoring

I thought he had a good twenty minutes after the sending off but other than that he was pretty quiet. He only plays in brief flashes. Also I thought he was playing too deep.

It was congested in the middle in their 3rd. They were well set up to stop his breaks.

He had no time to shape his body, or he didn't know how to, not playing in his natural position.....just toe bung it when short of time in front of goal. Like Ronaldinho

Just do anything except what he actually did 🤣 The keeper had committed to the dive before he kicked it. Brutal miss. Dack would have stuck that no doubt about it

Indeed it is it's fine lines even though things aren't dropping at the moment we are still a really tough side to play against. Had we got one early v Swansea as we should have done i genuinely think we could have taken them apart first half.

We just need to dig out one good result from somewhere quickly to keep the wheels on.

Ya, indeed and we are going to have to do it the hard way with our upcoming fixtures.

3 points from the last 12 available

How many from the next available 9

We;ve already done it several times over this season so i'd say that IS our mentality we are better with our backs to the wall for long periods.

Free flowing attacking football with some composure to pick teams apart really isn't our thing yet the past 2 games that's what its ended up being about. Ok, circumstances dictate but something tells me Mowbray is desperate for the fancy stuff but it's the muck and bullets stuff that has got us where we are.

First goal is crucial. Comes back to Buckley's sitter

Brererton had a chance to get a tackle in during that incident but he did his best not to. Three players all drawn to the ball, what were we thinking. ?

It was embarrassing. One of the worst goals you will see. Definitely not a goal conceded by a team serious about promotion.

Zeefuik tried foul him and he couldn't even do that

Speaking of fouls , Rothwell did a pretty nasty one. He kind of had to do it ,but it was one where you could injury someone very easily.

I don't see many saying it,but I thought he stank the place up last night. Pointless display by him
