Completely get what TM is saying but if we again miss out on players of the calibre such as Celina, McGinn and Freeman for the sake of a few grand a week then it will be extremely disappointing. Especially if we then blow it on a 19 year old prospect!

This summer is a carbon copy of last. Same excuses from Mowbray, same knock-backs from players.

You may be right in some ways, but they’ve nowhere near the funding or facilities we have.

The quotes of their chairman online last summer, about the Armstrong transfer and us “blowing them out the water” would point me to think that anyone we wanted “as much” as Preston, we’d get before them.

Read Neil's mments this summer. With him agreeing to a new contract came extra funding. As he himself said PNE are operating at a different level now.

As I said, I think he’s jumping to conclusions based on the fact Bauer’s contract was up.

I know I had the benefit of hearing it first hand, but he really was very dismissive of the idea of signing Bauer.

I had been wondering myself why Sharpe continued touting him when the message I got from the horses mouth was very much contrary to this.

He said Bauer was after £45k. Bauer then ends up signing for PNE. It depends how much faith you have in what comes out of the 'horses mouth'.

Regarding what Mowbray said about Bauer at the consultation meeting... I want to point out that the overarching message was we were in for him last year, his demands are high for a league one player, and we need bigger and better players ready to come straight into the first team. It seemed to me we had moved on from Bauer by that point.

The 40-50k comment was in my mind pretty throwaway, to emphasise the fact his agent was over valuing him, and I’d confidently state it was in no way meant to mislead anyone. An exaggeration to highlight a point, probably.

To be honest, I think us continually being linked with him is more to do with his contractual circumstances and journalists jumping to conclusions. Mowbray was dismissive of Bauer and after what he said I’d have been pretty disappointed if we had signed him.

I should point out again though that if these better players fail to materialise I’d have serious doubts over Mowbray’s integrity and Venky’s intentions.

Why was Sharpe touting him as very much a live target less than a week ago?

One things for sure - Bauer would have brought height and physicality in spades which is what we are absolutely crying out for. Nobody can deny that. Let’s hope TM’s plan A - or B - whatever way you want to look at it, comes off.

    Adam Maher

    Bauer

We're already at C in the alphabet soup of rejection. And they're just the ones we know about.  We should get to Zidane sometime in August, just before we bid £10m for one of Barnsley's youth team.

"If he doesn't do well at Preston, there will be big question marks over why Mowbray scouted him"

I have literally read it all now

    ???

Talk about "damned if you do, damned if you don't!"

Exactly. Not only can't Tony secure the transfer against the financial might of PNE, it turns out the target was rubbish after all.

Conclusion: Tony can't even attract shite anymore. At least he used to be able to attract Gladwin.

You and I must read that differently - it says that he didn't want to sign a contract at Charlton and that we bid for him last summer.

It says nothing about an offer from us this time. Is it not possible we weren't in for him?

It you want to hang your hat on that unlikely scenario that's up to you. Or maybe as Honest Tony said he wanted £50k a week and that's why he chose the Real Madrid of Lancashire

Did we still want him? So we definitely got "beat" to the signing?

I've been off the radar and haven't seen a solid link or verifiable quote recently.

"Rovers’ quest to add to their defensive ranks has taken a step forward – with Charlton close to admitting defeat in their battle to keep hold of Patrick Bauer.  The German, out of contract at the end of the month, has been a long-term target for Rovers who saw two bids rejected last summer. Bauer, 26, is likely to be one of two central defensive options to arrive this summer"

The things is what Mowbray says and what actually happens are two entirely separate issues.

Regarding Bauer I saw him play once on TV. Knowing we were interested I watched him pretty closely, to be honest he didn't look to be an improvement on Downing or Williams. He was just a Steady Eddie type tall lad filling a slot in the back four. Nothing special either on or off the ball. And that was at a lower level than we are at. The young Arsenal loanee playing along side him that day is twice the player Bauer will ever be.  If I'm wrong I'll hold my hand up next season.

Which makes you wonder why we wanted him and made a bid last summer?

It's hard to form an argument when the people I disagree with are just making stuff up to flesh out an already formed opinion.

I'm saying - if we knew the situation, we could judge it, what happens in the rest of the window will give us the answers.

Until then it's just people crying over hypothetical spilt milk.

What stuff is being made up? All we know is we wanted him and he's gone elsewhere. Do you know differently?

If you can tell us unequivocally the situation regarding Bauer I'd love to hear it.

Failing that, it would probably save you from injury during your mental gymnastics if you just copy/pasted "I don't like Tony Mowbray" instead of winding yourself up.

It's not me who's wound up. I'm not posting childish little comments like 'Sssh Tony bad'. You tend to do that when you're run out of argument.

I would be surprised if they are censoring well articulated criticism. More than likely censoring abusive posts or drivel. They shouldn't censor the drivel though.

It's the first on the article, which is quoted by someone else a few posts down. Not abusive in the slightest.

Because we don't have a under 23 team or academy that costs over 3 million & we don't waste  over 6 million on over rated  player s. We matched the Armstrong bid & wages but he chosen Rovers because he was on loan with you. Some of you lot need to smell the coffee. PNE are a well run club with realistic expectations & don't expect to buy players we can't afford we are not Aston v or Leeds & we no that but the trouble  is most Rovers fans have been brought up with silver spoons in there mouth.

    Thick as mince.
