Aye, Tony knows the happy clappers are years away from wanting him out even if he has one if the worst defences in the football league.

The worst away defence out of the 92, bar none.

But apparently that was just a 'blip' according to Waggott and Mowbray, caused by Lenihan being injured for a couple of months.

As long as we improve though Tony will be happy. He said so.  And that's all that matters because Tony's happiness is far more important than promotion.  So I'm looking forward to us having the 91st best away defence next season. Lets build a club.

Are you surprised? He has done this all the time whilst at Rovers!

I'm just surprised more people haven't twigged

It's been obvious for months. Waggott and Mowbray are two mediocre and uninspiring operators who are making sure they look out for each other.

Fair play to Sharpe, he’s somehow eked out around 5 stories about Bauer since the end of May.

I used to think he was ok and stuck up for him a few times on here, but the quality of his writing is appalling for a journalist.

"Bauer, 26, is likely to be one of two central defensive options arrive this summer, with Rovers also tracking a younger option, despite looking at a more experienced free agent, having released Paul Downing and Jack Rodwell’s future remaining unclear"

    Word salad.

This is the biggest hint yet as to how the meetings in Pune went. It seems that TM went over believing he might get backed to buy some better, established players ready for a promotion push and was informed that he would need to continue buying young and developing them to increase their potential re-sale value. Utilising a mid table budget he is now hoping to emulate the likes of Sheff United and Norwich. But he knows they are the exception to the rule.

I certainly read this article as a dampening down of expectation. It explains why he came back from there and didn’t do any media stuff until after his holiday. Based on his previous comments and ambition to manage in the Premier League, he won’t be happy with this stance. For those who want TM out, it wouldn’t surprise me if he jumps at the first chance of a club showing more immediate ambition. So you may just get your wish...

If course he's dampening down expectation. That's how he's going to keep his job. Him and Waggott used to talk about 'building a club' slowly and how they had to get Venkys to understand how important it was. Now it's all about Rovers being 'middle of the food chain'. The excuses are already being built in ready for the new season. Although there's nowt middle of the food chain about spunking £7m on a Championship teenager. But we aren't allowed to mention the price, Tony said.

So, he won't resign, it's the total opposite. He's desperately trying to cling on to his job and so he's getting his excuses in early and massively dampening expectation. His comment about being happy if we simply improve and selling players for profit and reinvesting as his long term strategy tell you everything you need to know.

Mid-table Championship and a profit on players and he'll be happy. The real question is, will Venkys? If so he's going nowhere.

In addition we are totally fed up with fans remarking we spent 7 million on BB FFS we didn’t we haven’t and are unlikely to ever pay the full amount if the deal unless we go up back to the PL

    Realistic transfers for me

    matt Clarke 2.5 m

    karl darlow 3m

    danny simpson free

    Marcus Maddison 2m

    jack colback free

    jamal Lowe 2.5m

with a left back in there too, wouldn’t be too disappointed with an Olsson return.  Free

Reckom a striker on loan, I like hogan but don’t know villas stance loan

id get rid of rodwell, Evans, Smallwood , if any offers for mulgrew or Bennett also

    that would give us

    gk darlow/ raya

    rb simpson/ nyambe

    cb1 lenihan/ mcgloire

    cb2 Clarke/ Williams

    lb olsson/ bell

    rw Lowe/ armstrong

    def mid 1 colback/ bennett

    def mid 2 travis/ Davenport

    lw Chapman/ Maddison

    att mid dack/ rothwell

    striker Hogan/ brereton/ graham

good balance with experience/ youth, warriors and artists

If Matt Clarke is the Pompey CB then he's being linked in the press with Leeds and Brighton for £6m.

I always thought Marcus Maddison was the fabled 'baseball cap and ripped jeans' guy. Hopefully he turns up in Tony's office this summer in a bowler hat, 3 piece suit and a monocle.

Less appearances than Joe Nuttall. It's not knee jerk but it's not exactly like anybody can form a full opinion of him based off 2 or 3 starts and a handful of 10 minute sub appearances.

We can form the opinion he isn't good enough to get in a rank average Championship team despite costing £7m.

How about we see what Brereton has done for the club by the time he leaves then we will be able to accurately assess if he has been worth what's been spent.

The knee jerk reactions to signings astounds me I'm guessing everyone writing Brereton off also thought bale flopped at spurs

Knee jerk reaction after 12 months? That's a very slow jerk. It's almost tantric.

  9. At £6m-£7m he is probably the most expensive teenager ever signed by a Championship club.

He has scored 1 goal in 12 months.

He can't get in the 1st team.

Based on the above so far he is a terrible signing. Above are the facts.

No-one knows if he will improve.

    Nobody blames BB.

The responsibility for his signing lies with Mowbray for saying he wanted him and Waggott for agreeing the price.

Isn’t able to play or isn’t able to dislodge the eventual player of the season?

Im not under the impression transfer business is simple, and whilst I’d like to see more cash hit the first team, I’d be happy if they’re putting the wage bill up and/or investing a few million in the team !

If he isn't good enough to get in the 1st team then we shouldn't have been spending £7m on him. It really is that simple. We wouldn't get anywhere near that if we sold him tomorrow. Dreadful business by whoever agreed the fee.

  11. Dack is quality in a painfully average and pedestrian team. His ball retention, skill and finishing ability are lower half Prem standard. Considering how few chances we make from open play his goal return is excellent.

He's needs to look after himself more though because he was obviously overweight in the 2nd half of last season. Or at least he looked it.

The pace thing is a bit of a non-issue. You don't have to be especially quick to play as a No.10. The timing of runs and a good football brain are far more important in his position.

He has no work ethic, and this alone will stop him becoming even a good premier league player.

If I have a premier league team with 10 outfield places, Dack can only play in one position due to his lack of pace and power, so he's a squad player at best. No pace and very lazy

Nonsense. You've obviously never really watched him live.

Rich Sharpe is regurgitating Waggott’s line for a second article that we only sold 8,750 season tickets last season.

Even though on Twitter Sharpe said he would be asking him why he was saying we had sold 10,000+ a few months ago.

    https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/17694740.finances-show-importance-of-season-ticket-sales-to-rovers/

Waggott lied about the number of ST's sold last season?

    Classic Bullshit Brothers.

Spin and twist ?  Oh you're good !   Just where in that post did I mention I wasn't prepared to do that ?   Or where did I mention or quote you ?  I just read people talking about comparisons so why the rush to defend yourself ?

Oh and by the way why do you only ever usually pop up in or around transfer windows and summer looking for things you assume to be negative ?

As for supporting the team I've been going man and boy since 1981/82 so you stick to your limited knowledge of comparisons and levels of support and i'll stick to my rather more experienced version ! Cheers ?

He's not a troll though. Definitely not??

First game of the season shortly before he left. Even the players that stand out were past it - Amorouso, Yorke (Soon to leave), Short.

Ferguson was dreadful and shortly left.

The quality of Duff, Dunn, Jansen, Cole, Berg long gone.

Hughes had us top 6 in the Premier League the season after.

    BD43A06E-98AE-490B-A6E0-C629277242F6.png

That's an awful team, Friedel being the exception. The rest were either over the hill, played out of position or just plain shite. Matteo in CM was the moment Souness and the plot parted company. His team that got promoted from the Championship was better than that rabble.

The way Hughes turned that club around was phenomenal. Nelsen - Free; Samba - £500k; RSC - £3m; Benni £2.5m etc etc. The only big outlay was £6m or so on Bellamy. Very few signings he made flopped and some were sold for a huge profit. Only Bowyer comes close for the amount of money he made the club versus outlay.

In the 'Bang-For-Your-Buck' stakes Hughes is probably the best manager there's been in my time watching Rovers.

Overall Hughes is in my lifetime top 3 with Dalglish and Kendall (An argument can be made for Souness)

Compare and contrast Mowbray. A lot of his signings have been average at best. Dack has been a revelation. BB an absolute joke for the money. In between there are some failures and others that have been half decent. There's only Dack that we could sell for good money at this moment in time.

Mowbray has also been been very, very fortunate to be backed the way he has. For a club £120m in debt he can't complain at the resource he's had.

As for work rate, I've also never seen a team work as hard as Hughes'. Dalglish's team was very similar. Mowbray's team do work hard for each other but they are nowhere near as fit. Hughes wouldn't have tolerated Dack's obvious weight issues or Armstrong's strolling.
