  3. No more heroes - the stranglers (i will do some other bands from now on)
  4. Waltzinblack - the stranglers (rovers should come out to this).
  5. Had a great meal at the clog and billycock in Pleasington last friday. Cauliflower fritters with a mild curry dip (to die for), assortment of sausages with some English mustard, 10oz rib eye with veg and the finest chips (cooked in dripping) I've had for some time. Didn't (couldn't) face a sweet. Washed down with a few Wainrights. Excellent
  6. Thanks again WB, Crikey, got my years wrong there!
  7. Thank you WB, I saw so many matches sat on the Riverside wall in the 70's that I struggle to remember most. I thought Mullen played around that time but just put it down to the memory recall beginning to fail!
  8. I was stood on the Burnden Terrace with my dad and uncle. I was 11, and hadn't witnessed an atmosphere like it. Can't remember seeing the goal as I couldn't really see a lot being amongst adults in the all standing area. Did we play Notts county away last game needing to win and someone (Swansea?) lose? I went to the Notts County game aswell with the whole family (if that was the right year!).
  9. Was on Blackburn end with about 5 of my mates (ranging from Bury to Man Utd fans). My embarrasment as we went 2-0 down so early on and I'd promised em a great game! Well, the rest is history, they still talk about the game today! Also did the away game when Kevin Moran had his best game in Blue n White that I can recall. Wow, talk about the Alamo! Getting showered with coffee from the Derby fans above us! Then walked the gauntlet to try and remember where my dad had parked his car.... at the 'other end' of the ground!!
  10. It was when the rumours were circulating regarding Shearer wanted by united. Was there ever an official bid, think there might have been.
  11. My favourite memory is of Speedie against Newcastle, he'd have got done for incitement nowadays!!
  12. Do you remember Hickman shouting 'ooh' when he went in for a tackle close to the half way line in front of Riverside, (may not have been in this game). I mention this because I'm sure I remember we used to shout 'ooh' when he went in for every tackle after that. Surprising what comes back when you cast your mind back. Not sure if it's mentioned anywhere else, but does anyone remember the 'teddy bears' that used to be thrown up in the air at half time on the Riverside? This would go on for 5 minutes or so, then you'd see it go up minus an arm, then a leg until total dismemberment was achieved. Sorry if this is posted somewhere else. Also, I was always under the impression Jimmy Mullen played in this game and had his leg broke, but I just checked Wiki and he played for us some 5 years earlier. Can anyone remind me if, when and who we were playing when it happened please.
  13. You are correct, I live in Bolton so nobody even remembers the full members cup. I've never had mates who are Rovers fans so Its never discussed unless I bring it up as a notable game in footy conversations. It was massive for me, first time at wembley with Rovers, never thought I'd see the day after watching us struggle through the 70's. Was there for play off also, with Wife and Father that time. That was a brilliant day even though I was struggling with a tooth abscess that was agony! After the shocking play offs against Chelsea and the dreaded Palace (which I also attended), I couldn't even hope to reach the top flight for the first time in my life watching Rovers, but we did, and so I enjoyed the best period of success we will ever have!! Went to Millenium with wife and my two young sons, brilliant. Who'd have thought this would happen back in the dark days..... NOT ME!!
  14. Fantastic night, wasn't this unusual with regards to the fact we played em at home the following week on a 'beach' of an Ewood pitch? I think our promotion clincher may have been re-arranged (but my memory isn't what it was), and also, we clinched promotion at Gigg lane, and, if I'm not mistaken, didn't Bury beat us at Ewood 1-0 to avoid relegation the following match? One of the only times I invaded a pitch at the end to celebrate.
  15. Went down with a couple of Wanderers fans for this as we were visiting a mate in London at the same time. Got absolutely slaughtered on the Friday and all day Saturday, so was in a poor state for the game. My memories are of a great following from Rovers that far outnumbered the Charlton fans, and of course Hendry's goal, brilliant day but seems to have lost it's importance over the years.
