I’ve thought this since his signing. He said a lot about Chapman being immature (for want of a better word) with regards defensive duties in his first spell, so I would imagine he believes Downing’s age and experience has given him some defensive ability. Not entirely sure if that will work, the idea that as a player gets older they somehow learn to defend, but we wait and see.

A 22 year old from Gateshead. A major “wtf?” signing for me - happy for him to make me look a complete tit however by spearheading a promotion charge... ?
