  1. Thebig difference is that Rugy League is only played in the UK so teh players have nowhere to go. The salary cap is based on club revenues, so you would end up with different caps on each club. Fine within Rugby as even the Bradfords and Leeds of the world don't generate that much more than the Londons and Warringtons, but in football, there would be massive differences between the likes of Fulham and Real Madrid.

And of course, our good friends in Brussells would also want a word.

If RL players want more cash they can either switch Codes to Rugby Union, as some have, Jason Robinson and Andy Farrell being two examples, or bugger off to the NRL down under. So there is some kind of choice there.

  2. Having recently described the first three years of his tenure at St Andrew's as "plain sailing", he now looks like being blown off course. His experiences at Sheffield United, Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace were not always positive, though Bruce never stayed long enough to show he is capable of confronting a challenge and coming out the other side.

Says it all to me really.

  3. The 29-year-old Holland striker is wary of any surprise tactics, telling MUTV: "Middlesbrough played in a system we did not expect and we were not able to deal with that until after the break when it was too late.

Looks to be the way to beat Man.U, considering we "surprised" them with the 4-4-2 system at OT. Looks like ol' RFW tactics are slow in reacting to any surprise changes. Would be extremely funny if they missed out on Champs League at end of the season. biggrin.gif

  4. tbh, I always thought that the Chelsea was going to be a right-off, considering the gulf in class of players. But coming back from 2-0 to level at the half, had a bit of optimism about the game, maybe nicking a draw. Obviously the second half put paid to that.

But with us being the first team to put 2 goals past them this season, is no mean effort, even if they put 4 past us sad.gif I still think that we are improving, although considering how we've been playing the last couple of seasons it's not hard to do tongue.gif and if we can keep playing to the same standard as we have the last few games then I don't see why we can't reach and stay in the heady heights of the top 10.

Roll on the weekend and the Charlton game!

  5. The Chelsea one, either a loss or a draw, especially as they'll be up for giving the next team they play in the Premiership a good hiding.

The Charlton and Man City games we could possibly get decent results against as we are very similar.

Arsenal, not really that impressive even if they do have Henry back. I think losing Viera has knocked them back a bit too much, and we could surprise them. Heck, if we can beat Man U at Gold Trafford and almost hold on against Liverpool (cheers ref!!!) then we can upset the Arse.

  6. I've already pointed out that Tomas Graveson would be absolutely ideal......unless he's been spoilt with the amount of money that Real must be paying him.  He is strong in the tackle, plays with authority, needs a Savage type player to buzz around him like Carsley used to do and is not really a gamble as he is well proven in the Prem.  He was certainly playing a starring role at Everton until he left them.  Talk is that Everton want him back as he is not figuring much for Real, but if my memory serves me correctly he had had a big fall out with Moyes before he left.

Have seen it quoted on various websites that Gravesen is on 95k a week at Real, and is about to be released by them too. But with the money he's on, if he doesn't take a serious pay cut I doubt anyone but Chelsea and Man U will pick him up. He would be ideal for us though, but don't see it happening. And I seriously doubt he'll go back to Everton, especially with their current league position, even though they have a first option buy back clause.

  7. Although I have the fear of after losing the 100% start Chelsea will be wanting to get back on form, but if Everton can hold them to a draw then after the Old Trafford result, I don't see why we can't do something similar, if we play with a similar style of play. Otherwise it could be damage limitation. Although with Bellamy on the bench and Nelsen out it's going to be a tough one, but if we can stand up to the likes of Man.U, Liverpool and Chelsea and give a good account of ourselves then we're in for a good season.

Could be (hopefully) a close game.

  8. from what i've read, sky's matches will be reduced from 160 to 138 and the other 22 games will be available to the highest bidder.

typical EU nonsense, but what do we expect from idiots who say we should sell straight bananas  huh.gif ?

Makes me wonder why the EU are picking on the EPL, as they apparently haven't mentioned the fact that the French top division football coverage has gone to one bidder (Canal+)
