  1. Not too fussed myself (I'm not English btw tongue.gif ), but out of the candidates, O'Neill or Pearce would be it. Granted Pearce has not got the managerial experience, but then neither did Hughes before Wales, or Van Basten before Holland / Klinsmann before Germany for that matter. But they do have bags of International experience as players, which should stand for something, and I do think that he'd keep the inflated egos of Team England in check and take none of the nonsense and whinging. Same I reckon would go for O'Neill too, and Allardyce at a push (although on the whinging maybe not!).

This would be where I think Curbishley would fail, he just doesn't seem the type to make a stand.

As for dealing with the media, Pearce and O'Neill would also shine out above the rest.

But hey, it's up to the incompetent FA to choose.

  2. I think we will finish above both Tottenham and Bolton, its only Arsenal we need to worry about. But wever beaten them once so it shows they aint unbeatable.

Although I think that was due to the timing of when we played them. I think we got them in the midst of their bad run. Although they are becoming good at the right time, as are Liverpool, now that they've found their shooting boots!

  3. MGP is known as 'Man U Killer'.

I reckon the media have got hold of the fact that he's played well against Utd and that he's also a fan and put it together. But is still pure speculation, which is bound to go overboard when the summer transfer sagas start. rolleyes.gif

As for Duff, would be good to see him back, feeding passes to a fully fit Bellamy.

  4. The powers that be usually seperate the top teams at the semi-finals stage, "somehow". It cost us twice at the League Cup semi-final stage and once at the FA Cup semis last season. Lets hope it works in our favor this time.

Wouldn't be surprised if that happened. Might confirm the ol' conspiracy theorists wink.gif

  5. Our problem was hiring English labour, should have sent a ship full of Paki's and Indians to do the job biggrin.gif

If you look at figures and the final product there is no way you can go past the Germans, what they have done to their stadiums for the WC on that budget is amazing.

192 million euros for the Gelsenkirchen Stadium retractable roof, extendable pitch and world class facilites, the reconstruction of the Berlin Olympic 242 million Euros, Waldstadion 126 million euros, they could have built 3 or 4 Wembleys for the same cost.

Can't really go wrong with German engineering really. Should've got them in instead, oh and built it in Birmingham instead laugh.gif

  6. i said same thing to the scousers at dinner today and they said thats different ...i just said oh ! blink.gif

Their response doesn't surprise me to be honest.

Although as has been been said, you don't see Bradford, Man United, Rangers, even Juventus play on the anniversary of their tragedies. Just Liverpool huh.gif

  7. I'd like to see him loaned to a Championship team for the first half of next season to see how he goes there.. Didn't he have a fairly unsuccesful loan to Plymouth??

See if he can cut it at the next level up

    392499[/snapback]

I'd go along with that. Banging in the goals in League 2 is all well and good, but a step up against better opposition in the Fizzy Pop League, will see if he has a chance to make the grade in the first team.

  8. I know it would be a hard and bitter pill to swallow for the vast majority of football clubs that would not and never could be a part of the G14 setup, but if it happens and you think about it rationally, would it be such a bad thing for the left out clubs?

This same scenario has been the case (obviously on a very much smaller scale) in Scottish football for so many years that few can remember when it was any better. I am of course alluding to the "old firm" setup. But here in Scotland there is an ever increasing feeling that has now become an avalanche; and this is to the effect that most Scottish football fans outside of the old firm (and quite a few within  the old firm ) are now of the opinion that the best solution for Scottish football as a whole would be for Rangers and Celtic to just go away and join some other league at wherever will have them. Then the rest of the clubs can really compete on a level playing field for the first time in at least 50 years.

Surely the same would apply in England if the English G14 members were to just beatle off?

I'm sure I remember the rest of the SPL clubs declare their intent to resign from the SPL, if Rangers/Celtic didn't do their own TV deal or if the TV money wasn't fairly divided between the rest of the clubs, when the TV deal was being negotiated.

  9. True.

Although if the Arse & Bolton lose, and we win then we'll be in a good position come fulltime. Just wish Chelsea had done us a favour and spanked Spurs hard by banging in a fair few goals to reduce their goal difference, instead of leaving it to the last minute to get the winner

  10. Plus I'm sure they'll be smarting after going out of Europe in midweek, and wanting to bounce back asap. Hoping for Chelski to spank the Spuds hard laugh.gif we need their goal difference reducing as well. +14 to +2 I think it is at the moment, could prove crucial at the end of the season.

  11. Would like for us to finish in the Top 6, which we are more than capable of, so we can snag a UEFA place. Or failing that, as long as we finish above Everton & Boro, for the Intertoto. Either way we'll have exceeded expectations at the beginning of the season, and the extra coffers for finishing higher, will come in very handy for next season, so we can build on a very fine season.
