  1. I'm currently on holiday in the US and went to see 300 last night. It is absolutely mind-blowing. It's about as deep as a conversation with Robbie Savage but that's really a negative that should be levelled at the graphic novel rather than the film based on it.

That is one film I definitely want to see, since seeing the trailers. I'm a fan of Frank Miller's work (loved Sin City, looking forward to the next movie installment) and like some of the decent comic to movie translations. Alan Moore's stuff I like too. V for Vendetta is good and looking forward to The Watchmen, seeing as it's the same director as 300.

  2. I do think that England has, grudgingly :P some very good individual players (and some average players that always get a game, no matter how badly they do at their clubs - but that's another matter) but for some reason, more than likely down to the management set up and certain egos, never seem to play well as a team.

It was said on SSN this morning that the Spanish players were encouraged to take things from the training ground and think things out on the field for themselves, whereas the English players seemed to prefer to be coached what to do rather than think for themselves to get them out of situations. This could explain why technically, England isn't as good as compared to other nations, despite what the media hype suggests, IMO.

  3. Seb Coe (admittedly not a football expert, but he does know a thing or two about fitness) said after the World Cup that he believed England were clearly one of the most unfit and under-prepared teams in the competition.

Has Steve McClaren learnt anything from the shambles of Germany?

I guess, as McClaren is still there, it'll probably be a case of history repeating if England qualify for the Euros.

  4. And what had RFW done prior to joining Manure? Played for Dunfermline and Rangers. Then he managed Aberdeen and made them into a good side by Scottish standards. Next stop: Old Trafford!!

True but the game has changed since then, and so have United in that time too. I think that United next manager is more likely to be a big name manager with more credentials than Hughes. Although depends what Hughes can accomplish before ol RFW decides its time to go.

  5. One thing is that is obviously nonsence about vinjay's post is the comparison between our interest in burnley and man city's lack of interest in stockport and everton/liverpools's lack of interest in tranmere.

Both Manchester and liverpool teams have another local premiership team to be their main rivals. We never have had a big local team to dislike, we only have Burnley. I dont care about what any other team does as long as burnley get beat. If vinjay does not get why we are interested in burnley then he is definately not a rovers fan.

I suppose you could say our 'rivals' are Bolton & Wigan these days. Although not so much as them being the Big Local rivalry, just local and more or less the same level?

  6. Well I'm in a quandry now, I have become fond of the tabbed browsing. Firefox won't work for RW and I don't like, no effin hate, the video clips as they are. Perhaps I'll wait to see if Guru Grooby can shed a little light on this technical darkness.

You could use the Maxthon browser - http://www.maxthon.com. The same user layout as IE but with the tabbed browsing, been using that for ages after I had problems with Firefox, and no problems.

  7. If there is technology available then it should be used, as footy is seemingly one of the last remaining sports not using technology. But not constantly, probably more like in Rugby League, for controversial decisions, like for penalty decisions, goal-line clearances, sending offs. Will give the fourth ref in the stands, something to do.

I would also agree that the standard of officiating is pretty inconsistent, and down-right appalling. Looks like Mr Hackett will be having quite a few meetings with managers. It definitely needs sorting out.

  8. Dare I say it, that I think he has a point about the small-town mindset, and that we need to think on a national and not just local scale to survive in the longterm - don't ask me how though, that's up to the board and PR dept.

I also agree with his view on Dunn, getting him back because he's local is null and void, unless he can prove his fitness and his determination to Hughes and co, then fair enough, but if not, I wouldn't bother.

  9. Looking forward to watching Casino Royale - some good reviews, only Bond film I've missed was the last one, although I don't think I missed too much.

Saw The Prestige the other day. Now that film is very enjoyable. Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Michael Caine all very good. Scarlett Johansson, well, only has a small role as the magician's assistant, but not outstanding. A few twist and turns throughout and at the end. Big kudos to director Christopher Nolan. Enjoyed Memento, Batman Begins and now this.
