  1. got back at 3.30, what a good trip and result. on the downside a group of about 20(stragglers already late for the match) of us were held up by security after passing through the first turnstile.

They seemed to do that for everyone, it was all a bit weird.

    Had a top few days.

Met several messageboarders - including being sat behing thenodrog on't flight home! - saw Jan from a distance (of about 6 foot!) but only found out who she was when she had gone!

Top time, my head still hurts a bit.

Disappointed with the messageboarders who fell asleep!

  2. I'm not technically minded enough to understand this stuff but my uneducated guess is that the technology that Rovers have isn't quite up to this (or if it is, the risk of mass malfunction on a matchday isn't worth taking).

People familiar with Transport for London's Oystercard may have seen something similar - if you top up your balance remotely (ie online), you can't go straight onto the transport network and use the new cash. You have to first nominate a location where you will physically go to a ticket machine and complete the top up.

Again a presumption - it's not practical to intsall every turnstile at Ewood (or in London, every tube access gate, tram and bus) with the technology which processes changes to the status of every single smartcard. The access points must just have basic "yes/no" functionality.

Functionality which changes the status of smartcards is probably hugely expensive relative to technology which simply reads them (perhaps like DVD players vs DVD recorders but on a bigger scale) - so it's not viable to change the readers which are currently on the turnstiles.

So I'm sure Rovers are correct to play safe with paper tickets for cup games for now.

Tris, when this new system was introduced it was hailed as exactly this, capable of simply being activated or deactivated for ST Holders.

The original plan was to trial it for "a period" and then to roll out the extra features. I had thought that the Saltzberg match was the start of the extra usage.

  3. Wow...£15 for entrance to both games for season ticket holders? £7.50 for each game...that is a superb offer. Only £15 for non-season ticket holders per game too.

They've been slated at times before...but nobody can say that Rovers aren't responding to the falling crowds now.

Quite true FLB, the biggest question is whether or not the Blackburn public respond.

I certainly intend to book my three ST's onto both matches (even though the child cannot attend!)

  4. Another thing that I've just seen on the official site is that they have launched an 16-21 club giving people in this age range discounts on tickets.

    http://www.rovers.premiumtv.co.uk/page/New...~908349,00.html

Another good move by Rovers I think as there definately seems to be a bit of a drop off when people reach 16 and ticket prices go right up.

Shame the front page advertises it as a "16-21/Student" discount for some reason though.

  5. The new rule says that Cissè was not offside. It's ridiculous imo, but that's the new rule, according to a refereeing friend of mine.

Point 1, There is no "new" rule

Point 2, Every single official I know (and believe me thats a hell of a lot of active and retired referees at high levels) things that the goal should have been disallowed, even under the alternative application.

  6. Thanks 92er. It's hard trying to get through, that unless a player touches the ball, he's not offside. That is the new interpretation of "interfering with play"

Quite simply, you can chase the bloomin' ball from an offside position, but you wont, or shouldn't be flagged offside unless you actually touch it.

    That simply isnt true den.

  7. Any opinions from ST holders on this? If you're sat in the BBE end you will have paid £23 for your seat while visiting walk-ups, home and away, will pay £15.

    Absolutely 100% supportive of this.

As a "one off" offer to guage the reaction to cheaper tickets then a reasonbly big match against Bolton is far better than the tenner offers in recent seasons against the likes of Charlton.

The value on my season ticket is excellent anyways so why would someone paying a few quid less than me for one match bother me?

Might take advantage to be honest, drag some friends, and get some stamps for "the card" :D

  8. Blackburn chief executive John Williams felt his team had a good chance of qualifying from Group E.

"We have to be optimistic and the group gives us a chance," said Williams.

"This competition is important for us, we have not had a good record and it is time to put that right." Each group comprises four fixtures per team, with two played at home and two away.

  9. To stop that argument created by Van Nistelrooy of standing offside then tapping the ball home ten seconds later the FA introdced a guideline suggesting 'phases' of play. Although McCarthy wasn't doing it intentionally, I'm sure his goal fits quite snuggly into it.

I hadnt viewed it that way.

I viewed it as a different phase of play once other players got involved.

But then again, I am perhaps slightly biased, and given the confusion around this stupid thing now even amongst officials, how are we supposed to work it out!
