[Archived] Rovers 2-1 Portsmouth
G Somerset Rover replied to Neil Weaver's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Good win, and a very valuable 3 points. We wre pretty clueless and nervous in the second half, but first half our midfield meant that we dominated the proceedings. I thought that MGP had his best game for us for quite some time. On a bad note everytime the opposition has a free kick at the moment, I'm very worried about Brads positioning. Yes the wall didnt do great but it didnt take a genious to work out where Matty Taylor was going to place it. On the whole though a good 3 points. Its teams like Pompey who are going to be very hard to play against from here on in due to the fact that their hanging by their nackers. -

If he does go, then its goodbye to a Rovers legend. He's a really nice lad and deserves the best for the future. -

I was only one goal out!! Good prediction though, I just had that feeling we'd beat them. What strikes from MGP and Stevie Reid! Get in! -

Glad that the stats can finally shut that nobb head lawrensen up. In an article in either the mirror or the sun today he gives his opinion on who the prem clubs will be after come January. He says of us "they're a team who have been punching abover their weight"?! Where the hell does this guy get off. If we keep our best eleven fit were top 10 material no doubt. As for his constant Brum "win" predictions, wake up and smell the coffee mate. -

For some bizarre reason Im very confident of beating Wigan tomorow. I just think that they've been slightly fortunate with decisions etc this season (Fulham 100% pen got turned down if i remember) and if you get at them like Spurs did then they're not invincible at home. 2-0 for me and top half come the start of the year. -

Glad they've fixed the one where they stop sayng that a players been playing badly when he hasn't. The media questioned my decision to "stick by" Rui Costa at Milan when he was averaging 7.80 and had racked up 20 goals! -

You are right Den. It is easy to blame Todd, but you must admit, his marking Of Bouba was pretty poor. But after watching it again, as you quite rightly say, Zura I think it is allows the ball to travel all that way when he could have cut it out. Our defending on the whole this season isn't good enough. -

Neil was lucky not to get book/red carded for the elbow on Boa judging by our dealings with refs this season. Watching goals on sunday they picked up on it...lets hope the ref didn't in his post match report. Sometimes you have to wonder what Neil is thinking. As for Andy Todd, I think even a 5 year old knows the basics of defending...GOAL SIDE ANDY. -

This is true Theno. But you know we dont really create any decent chances until we fall behind. Its like "oh were 1-0 down now, better pull me socks up". We need to get in there from the off. Granted I cant really comment on todays game as I wasnt there, but from what I've heard it sounds like a similar scenario. -

Thing is mate the only way we can do that is by playing our boring 4-5-1 with Moko in front of the back four. If were without Neil, Dickov, Nelsen and Bllers for Boro in midweek then were going to get spanked. -

This is true are 1st halves have been pathetic this season. Lets hope what Steven Reid says holds true about our fitness getting us back into games. Why oh why is Shefki not getting more time? He unsettles defenders. -

Dude I've been all for Zura coming back in etc...but Todd did not let us down on Saturday. He genuinely didnt know where the ball was and couldnt pull his arm away quick enough. Yes Beattie would have been through but Todd should not have been sent off. -

I thought Bentley was up top today? I know he links with the midfield, but weren't we still effectively playing 4-4-2? -

If it was one of the big clubs then he would be sacked. Only time weve got a ref demoted is when hedidnt send off one of our players! lol -
Despite Hughes' growing reputation i dont think he'l plunge for another Rovers manager after Soueys efforts. By the way though, not that Im intentionally trying to defend a man whose spent that much there, but only about 2 out of the previous 4 or 5 managers have a better winning % than him. Still a team managed correctly with Emre, Parker, Bowyer, Dyer, Luque, Shearer, Owen and Solano should be top 5.

Utd and the gooners wouldnt field a reserve side in the quarters. Roon, Rio etc were playing tonight. As you say though at home I fancy us against anyone. -

Lets just hope we get a goal soon. This will be our third game in a row without a goal. And with the huge game on sat, we need to find the net this game, because when we go on a rut in front of goal, we go through a grade a rut at that. -

G Somerset Rover replied to ihateburnley's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Shearer, similar to Bergkamp play quite dirty football some times, but because of their status they get away with it. Another fine example being Essien's horror lunge where he diodnt even get brought up about it. If that had been Savage he would've had a 5 game ban at least. As for Savage yeah he winds people up etc, but hes good at it. It winds the opposition's fans up and the opposition's players. As someone else has said, Rovers form has picked up dramatically since he came...and Brums has gone down. -

0-0 away to Citeh isn't a bad result even if either side couldn't muster one shot on target for the whole game...which is pretty pathetic. Then again it shows how defensively stable both sides are. Just a quick quaestion, will Todd the captain yesterday be dropped next weekend when Lucas is back? Surely Zura and Nelsen are our first two now? Just seen the topicm on the messageboard! -

True Eddie, and for those who were doubting Bellers' commitment, he looked like he was really enjoying his footie today and commented after the game how we were aiming for Europe. -

Wow, what a performance and result. To score four goals and to play like we did is credit to what Hughsey has achieved at the club. I've slated Tugay aswell before, but I remember many saying "thanks for what youve done, but it's time to leave" etc etc. The guys a legend and deserves another years contract. Onwards and upwards! -

Mourinho is an utter d******d. I really hated the guy before but now I cannot bare to listen to the drivvle that comes out of his arrogant gob. Yes hes a great manager already, but even arsene "didnt see it" Wenger and Alex "added on time" ferguson arent nearly this annoying. We gave you a good game at your own turf, and made you work bleddy hard for your 3 points, so please respectr that. You cant win with this guy, if you come and defend he accuses you of parking the bus in front of the goal and if you give it a go and score he claims that they had to score for you. Jose mate your sqaud cost over £200 million and you still cant give credit to a team who made you sweat. Utter pillock. As for bellers it was only a week or so ago that he was interviewed and he said that there was still much more to come from this team yet.
