The Summer Transfer Window (Press Submit)
JHRover replied to RoversClitheroe's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
After escaping relegation to the 3rd division by the narrowest of margins and stripping the squad bare of talent and depth, and almost certain to sell our remaining asset and only source of goals, you might expect a Championship football club to approach the summer with a safety first approach and bring in a proven operator to lead the operation, rebuild the squad and usher in a new era. Instead we get to the middle of June and then bring in an ex player who has zero experience of any similar role. I'd suggest that they are gambling with our future again. They don't have a clue how good or bad Rudy might be He might be a genius. He might be inept. Might bes aren't really enough at a multi million pound organisation that needs to avoid relegation. I might be a good director of football. I wouldn't expect Rovers to gamble on it. Crucially however he will be cheap, grateful and compliant All essential Venky requirements Keep quiet and take whatever rubbish the Indians hand down and you'll do for us. Actual performance is immaterial. -

At least he's a nice lad who will have a chat with everyone. Unlike that nasty Broughton. Capability? Irrelevant. Let's just roll with it and hope for the best. Not as though we've a massive rebuild needed in the next 2 months or owners judging people by performance. -

I suggested he'd be Broughton's replacement which was based on a hunch given his presence around the place and being invited along to meetings that you ought only to attend if occupying a senior position at the club. The line was that he was merely shadowing Waggott to try and get a route into a post playing career. Of course more to it than that and we have now, still for the time being a Championship club, appointed a complete novice as head of football. Of course a perfectly logical thing to do after the debacles of recent transfer windows and getting rid of Broughton under the guise of him not being up to the job. Frightening times. It is clear that slippery Steve is in control and bolstering his position with Park and Rudy allies for his support and control. A sick joke when he should be long gone from this club. I'm furious and disgusted. Of course Waggott is banking on the 'popular ex player' card to gain him credit and support. That's how blatant he is but unfortunately some will play right into it. Cheap is the word. Relegation is the inevitable outcome. -

It seems there is more intrigue and excitement at Rovers these days regarding sell on fees and bonuses on players previously sold after they go on to thrive elsewhere a la Kaminski and Wharton than there is about anything else. It wouldn't bother me if said extra cash benefited Rovers in any shape or form but it won't, so all it does is make it even more pointless and annoying when the Telegraph and others go on about it. -

Early bird should be on sale from January or February until April or May. Then standard pricing after that running through the summer. We can't do that because we are always late putting them on sale, so try to squash an early bird period into a few weeks between late May and late June. -
John Eustace - our head coach
JHRover replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
If true that Eustace is a Waggott appointment we can be confident there will be no more 'ask Steve' which became a trademark of JDT's last 12 months. JDT a clever bloke I think and initially he held Broughton accountable, as most normal clubs would with a Director of Football, but then came to realise where the problem and power really rests. Culminating in him including the shadow man in his comments Awkward when all employees are expected to keep him hidden. JDT gone within a week of that outburst. A few more ins and outs to provide a facade of measures and reforms being implemented to change things for the better but fundamentally still the same organ grinders at the top of it and still the same agenda playing out, just this time more compliant and less vocal/ambitious people carrying it out. Plenty will be fooled by it, calmed by the passage of time, silence and transfer window shenanigans to occupy their thoughts. Nothing has really changed though. -

Preston and Bolton have ended the myth. They can offer nothing Rovers can't offer. Same or lower level of product. Similar status, geography and demographics (though the usual mob are now trying to rewrite history on that front). What we are overlooking here is the other side to the coin other than price. Product. At Rovers it is shite and has been for a while. Last season well and truly took the biscuit yet the attitude seems to be that everyone will just forgive and forget because it's a new season. I won't and know others won't. Call it a boycott or just being totally fed up with being treated with contempt by a parasite like Waggott and his Indian bosses, result is people won't buy. Compare to other clubs where there is a serious effort to fill the ground, where fans are treated with a drop of respect, and there's your difference Owners who try, communicate, attend. People who can be trusted, not the disgraceful people in the Ewood directors box. Still waiting for Steve's analysis and explanation for last season's debacle or indeed any kind of plan for the future. Maybe what efforts he and other staff he directs have made beyond twitter/website adverts. Approached any lapsed ST holders directly? Approached clubs, neighbourhoods, new groups? We won't get anything until he's comfortable and the in house media team ask some easy questions. Most of us can see straight through it because we know what sort of people we are dealing with here. Other clubs fans can see owners and staff who actually want to do something in this sport beyond just existing and ticking boxes. This accounts for your 6000 deficit, together with prices. -
And yet the money we did get was 100% profit on a lad who 18 months earlier had never played professional football and is enough to ensure the lowlife in India need not cough up any cash themselves for another 12 months. That's all they care about. Waggott has a big boost to the balance sheet and can use it to justify the 'plan' and the owners sit back and relax for another year in the hope another one emerges in that time. We fans know that Palace had our pants down and that is now playing out before our eyes, admittedly more quickly than I expected, but barring a career threatening injury £18 million was always going to turn out to be a derisory sum for him I can see that because I can see a medium to long term picture and impact. The people running Rovers don't because they just lurch from one thing to the next each season making it up as they go along. Which is why we are in this mess and why the ground and ticketing, and commercial, and squad, is in such a dire state.

Absolutely delighted for Adam and his family. I think most of us could immediately see a top player in the making but doubt anyone would have seen a Euro 2024 call up. It seems the realisation we had at Rovers 18 months ago is now reaching the PL and top levels. A definite sour taste in the mouth however. His emergence and sale should have either got us to promotion or funded a future promotion push. A once in a generation development. Instead he was ushered out the door at the back end of the window to the first bidders to cover the owner's costs, we've got nothing to show for it and now they are attempting to claim credit for it. They should be ashamed of themselves.

The Telegraph say the same thing every transfer window and will carry on saying the same thing until midnight on deadline day. You don't need a link to the club to assume that 'some' money will be spent at some point this summer. It's only after the window is shut that the true intentions become clear. Until then Nixon, Chaddy and others can spend a couple of months speculating about signings which they seem to enjoy. -

Quite an impressive leap even from you. Let's assume the owners have promised £20 million to spend this summer. Does that make any difference or get us any further if the secretary or whoever then forgets how to do their job when completing the transfers? -

I'd suggest the most wise approach would be the cautious one and to learn from the past, treating these people with the cynicism and doubt they have earned. The unwise approach would be to hope or assume things are going to be alright because it's a new window with different people working for the same overlords. We all hope it will be fine. Most of us have the wisdom to recognise that it probably won't be under these people. Some repeat the same delusions every transfer window and rarely does it end up well -

It's season ticket sale time so of course the music coming out of the club, via the echo chamber Telegraph, is positive. But I'm sure even those remaining at Ewood are under the impression there will be money to spend. There bloody well should be and that's because it is a summer window. Any club in any league should have some ability to spend and that's before we think about the cash raked in already. But we know how this works. Or at least most of us do. The story changes later when the realities of committing hard cash and wages and multi year contracts come clear. The situation changes when we flog Szmodics to cover the outlay tenfold. It changes when ludicrous stories appear about not clicking send on paperwork. So claims of money to spend mean zilch. They've said this before and look where it has got us. -

League One bound behemoths Huddersfield past the 10,000 mark puts our boasts into context. Only one figure matters really and that's the final sales total. Any less than 12,000 I'd be embarrassed considering what our near neighbours are selling yet Waggott will be patting himself on the back if we sell 100 more than last year but 5000 less than Bolton. -

So well down the road of completely dismantling one setup within the space of 2 years of starting it despite putting no resources forward to allow it to work and now predictably turning to old contacts as the solution to fill the void. I'd ask what the point of the last 2 years has been as it has got us nowhere whatsoever other than coming out of it with a far weaker squad of players but for the owners it has probably cost them nothing, for the slimeballs in the boardroom they've had another few hassle free years of well paid employment and they're now milking Adam Wharton's rise for everything they can get but of course won't be doing the key part and spending his money. Absolutely shameless. -

Unfortunately I doubt anyone in the UK knows what our transfer budget or plan is. Essentially it will either be what % of the cash brought in recently will the owners allow to be spent on new players, or whether the owners are going to tip some more in from India (probably unable and unwilling to do so). Also unfortunately I think we will only come to realise that it is the same old story after season ticket renewal deadline by which time the majority of season ticket renewals have committed their money and signed up to it. Then the shenanigans start again and people realise that nothing has actually changed - same owners, same board, same agenda, same rubbish, new season. -

You can see it any way you like. But reality is that all season ticket money goes into the club to pay the wages of employees. And at the top of that tree sits Waggott and the other shadowy individuals like Pasha and the others who I doubt have ever even been to Ewood Park. Its nothing to do with the club being bigger than individuals. Its simple business. Money brought in pays wages and then in our case the owners (or increasingly sales of assets) top up the difference. Your love of the club or otherwise doesn't change how that works. I'm not criticising you, I'll probably be in the same boat come deadline day. But I won't delude myself that the money is doing good or that it proves what a good supporter I am. I feel very uncomfortable doing it. -

Oh yeah, they say it is £349, but then when you go through to pay they add a £2 surcharge, which as far as I can see there is absolutely no way of avoiding. They claim that this is to fee due to Ticketmaster for the website facility which may be correct, but they shouldn't be advertising at £349 if it is impossible to buy one for that. Ordinarily I'd expect them to not impose the £2 admin fee if buying directly from the club but inexplicably they go one better and charge an extra £10 to buy direct from the club They'd be better advertising it at £351 and absorbing the admin fee within it -

Not really correct though is it. He's paid £300,000 a year by Rovers so at least some people or some part of your ST money will be going to him. Not to mention the other people in the 'senior management' structure who are on god knows how much a year. -

Has anyone found a way to actually buy a season ticket for the price advertised? I'm not sure there is any way of actually getting one for £349. The cheapest being £351 if you can do it online, failing which it is £359 if you go into the shop. Pretty sure it is impossible to get one for the price advertised. So false advertising. -

Some fans are just fed up of 13 years of lies, let downs, being ripped off, misled, and having the piss taken by people who are actively destroying and undermining the club. I'm one of them. Handing money over to the likes of Venkys and Waggott doesn't give me any satisfaction or 'I'm a proper fan' feeling. Infact I feel dirty and conflicted when I do it. Knowing full well that these people at best don't care and just take us as an irrelevance and more likely are laughing at us behind closed doors. Any other club you can think of had 13 years in a row of this rubbish? -

"Good news" and Venkys depends on which side of the table you sit on. For me good news would be active steps to leave the club, nothing more or less, and that's all there is to it. I suspect for most others still clinging to hope or even worse are of the view that these repulsive people are good for Rovers then "good news" probably means something trivial like the potential for a few quid to possibly get put into the transfer kitty (until someone conveniently makes a hash of it anyway) Personally I've no interest in such stuff because I think we are past that stage now and as above even if there is a possibility of money being spent it will no doubt be torpedoed by some bizarre series of nonsensical events at Brockhall. -

Funny how when its a figure the Club wants people to hear about - 1200 in the first day and 2000 after the first weekend - they are quite happy to broadcast it to all and sundry, Yet usually what we get is all sorts of mixed messages, confusion and silence about sales totals. I'd suggest this is because they can't wait to try and take advantage of numbers that they think reflect positively on them, whereas the usual way of things is they are silent on such things because the figures are nothing at all to be proud of. This is likely to be the case come window closing day so I expect to see these sales updates shudder to a halt once the initial surge has passed. We will once again end up well under 10,000 sales yet enough for slippery Steve to massage some positives out of, yet miles behind rival clubs of the same / lower leagues. -
I do find the majority of these play-off finals to be dismal affairs. I don't blame the teams as once a lead is established its just a game killing exercise but I find it tedious as a viewer. This one here I reckon the ball has been in play for at most 20 minutes of the second half, 9 minutes added on
