1. I agree with Sotty there. Sorry EIT I think you have forgotten how well he played in his first season back in the Prem.

Until that season I had never really cared for Matt Jansen but he changed my mind.

I am not having a go at anyone, though I do think the "new" poster is just a wind up merchant.

I also feel Matt will never be back, he's lost the natural instinct that he used to have. No amount of coaching can put that back, you can see it in his play sure he may bang in the odd goal. Where it shows is when he gets one on one facing a defender, he just does not know how to get round him any more he has to stop and think about what he is going to do where as in the past he may have just done what came naturally and waltzed right by him.

Perhaps Sparky has a different role for Matty in mind, one where he could be effective at this level, but will we ever see Matt of old, absolutely not.

  2. Give Over Man.....It was Duff, Dunn and Coley what won us that.....

Matty has never had a significantly good game for Rovers in this division.  I would be the first one to eat my words, but sadly it ain't happenin.....

We'd be better off with me nan.....

Yes you are right, he was so poor he earned a call up for the England squad, and IMHO should have been in Japan.

  3. I have a feeling that those cranking up the hype about Gresko will be in for a nasty surprise. Imo, the guy is not up to it defensively and will be found out this season and won't be able to blame Danny Mills.

    335847

You really can be quite the numbnuts 6 you really can. Hyping up? Blaming Mills?

Perhaps you were not privvy to Rovers happenings at the time gresko was playing well, I am certainley not blaming anyone other than Gresko for his loss of form. Simply that his loss of form coincided with his broken foot courtesy of Danny Mills.

If we really want to get the best out of Gresko we just have to bring in a top notch manager, Paul Sturrock for example.

Let's wait and see what happens shall we.

  4. That's easily the best piece of news I've heard come from this game...if we can get him to somewhere near the form he was showing when he first arrived (or when he persuaded Inter to pay £8 million for him) then he'll save us a good few million.

    335797

Darn it! I have to agree with you there Chuckster. If he can get to the level he was at before Danny Mills crocked him then it will be like a new signing. He can pass, cross, shoot and is also another threat from free kicks. I would be very happy to see an in form Gresko rather than Dominic in the left back slot.

  5. Haddawayishite. I'll give you that. I suppose he's a Newcastle fan as well is he? Or maybe he's just on the waiting list for a season ticket?

This Link (The Seventies and Eighties) states that Newcastle's gates actually dropped below 8,000 in the 70's. I remember vaguely going to St James in the 1980's to watch Rovers and there was about 12,000 on. Sure it's dangerous for a Rovers fan to comment on such things as gates (we know our place) but then again we don't go on about being such a "massive" club.

So, in the space of a few years you've found another 40,000 fans, I'd say they were glory hunters but that would really be taking the p*** - as this "article". points out, you haven't won an existing domestic trophy since 1955.

It must be hard for such a well supported club to be so unsuccessful, it must really take some doing wasting all that gate money. Good news is though paddy is that with the current management team in place up there you'll be able to keep your record going for a while yet. If you want to come on here talking utter garbage then I'd at least wait until Newcastle have won a trophy so we can take you seriously, until then I'd pipe down a bit.

    335806

Nothing hurts quite like the truth does it Bob? In fact looking at the overall "accomplishments" of Newcastle they are behind the other massives such as Spurs for thinking they are big without having done much on the domestic front.

I'd say that's round one to you Bob, perhaps even a first round knockout, even Rovers in the Third Division used to pull in 8000 in the 70's

  6. What, no one on here can think of a 15 year old who's deserved a smack.

What Barton is done is quite stupid for a man in his position. If it is anyone else it just a 22 year old chinning a gobby 15 year old. What irks me is that these players have the world at their feet, all they have to do is turn the other cheek for a few years and they are made up for life. I guess some folks just don't know what is good for them.

  7. Corporal Carrot- what a superb little rant. Really made me proud that Rovers have so thoroughly wound up the Brum. No mention that Bruce offered £1.25m more than us and still didn't get him? Ah well, go back to writing petitions against Lee Bowyer.

Souey, you are still a Rovers hero!

    330567

The fact we burned Big Club Brum again made this deal all the more sweet for me, now if we can just stick it to 'em a few more times I MAY begin to forgive 'em for taking our manager off us all those years ago when they stole Jim Smith as we were doing really well.

  8. Very very happy with the signing, sick to bloody death of all this harping on about A.Cole though. Forwards lads and lasses forwards.

Only concern I have about Bellamy is his injuries and do we have the caliber of passer available to make the most use of Bellamy. You know we never knew how to bloody well pass to duffers. It's all well and good having a lightening quick forward but if he always has to run backwards two or three yards to get the pass it sort of takes the edge off.

I don't see his rep being a problem I think there is a mutual respect between Sparky and him.

  9. Well off topic, and about 4 lines more of a response than my post merited, expected, or wanted.

On the same note, if I'm ever in Arizona, do I have to take everything with the strictest seriousness?

    328084

Is that a rhetorical question? Since I have been told by so many that Americans have no sense of humour. Why did you just assume I was being serious, perhaps my answer was lighthearted T4E, you English tch tch.

  10. I know, and have put some money on the Arizona Diamondbacks - its defiantely their year this year

    324870

    my team flopsy!!

    324877

Who's team Abbey? and not with our current Bullpen Flopsy.

  11. This is a UK based messageboard.

Its "Smart Arse" thank you very much.

When in Rome and all that...

    328028

When they rename it the England Wide Web and I have to type eww. then I'll consider it, till then play your fiddle as Rome burns. You have also contradicted your self since "smart ass" is an American slang term that was never in use in England when I lived there. So if you are going use slang from foreign countries at least spell the terms correctly, as they do. wink.gif

Now is that off topic or what.

  12. Even though I don't reside in England I despise even the thought of a name change for our ground. Ewood Park is a venue steeped in history and tradition.

So, the Riverside was renamed the Walker Steel how many people still call it the Riverside though, just about everyone on here.

Unless it is substantial monies, I'm talking in the millions, the name must remain Ewood Park.

  13. The biggest plus about these changes is David Brown's closer involvement as Trust representative. This really should have happened a long time ago and can only help matters assuming he likes what he sees.

Also good news if Tom Finn has a more influential role. Always comes across very  well in my experience.

A crucial part of John Williams new role will presumably now be to attract new sources of investment into the club. All I can say is let's hope he has more joy with this than with filling the ground. Judged by any objective criteria his performance over the last couple of seasons has been singularly unimpressive. We've failed to hold onto our best players, and attendances and performances on the pitch have declined dramatically. He's created a negative amosphere around Ewood in the past by continually banging on about survival and the message will have to be a lot more positive in future before any other suitably interested parties are likely to come aboard.

    327783

Don't know Tom Finn but some of my Rovers mates back home don't like him much, singling him out for some of the away ticket fiascos.

I don't know that, in all fairness, you can point the finger at Williams for failing to hold on to our players, I was have thought Souness was the biggest part of that.

I also don't recall too many instances about him "banging" on about survival either, again Mr Souness did a lot of that. As for creating a negative atmospere, well Rev you know how you used to come across in the LET. 98% Negativity dropped in the laps of the local townsfolk week in and week out does little to help put bums in seats either does it. Perhaps the whispers of Mr Williams influence in removing said negative reporter have a little to do with your views, perhaps not.

I feel Williams could get more involved in getting the marketing side of the club up to scratch, we really have to fight for every penny now with both Bolton and Wigan in the Prem. Hopefully he can help support the manager in putting out the best quality product in the hopes that people will come. However Rev, I think you know as well as any of us souls that have followed Rovers for years, once the public of Blackburn is turned off it is a real buggar to get them back, a real buggar.

  14. Really good news.  tinykit.gif

Rovers really showing a new seasonal-sense of positivity.

I do agree with most on here that having David Brown is a signifcant appointment for Rover's in regards to the trustees, but could it be possible now with this appointment, that deceisions will be based on more 'good business', rather than whats good for the club? unsure.gif

Anyway, heres to more good news to follow... thumbs-up.gif

    327690

I was wondering also if it is more a case of the Trustees wanting to be more in tune to the daily operations of the club, where the money comes from and more importantly where it goes. Hate to be called names again but it makes me wonder if the trustees are giving it a good looking over with a view to getting out now that a suitable amount of time has elapsed since Jack's passing.

Hopefully it will be all good but I just have an uneasy feeling about it.

Over the moon for Mr Williams, I do hold him in high regard good luck to him.

  15. I would have no hang up about this board being the forum used by the ISA but think having a new board created by the ISA would be counter-productive.

    326304

Think about it Phllip, one just has to read some of the tedious, back biting, slagging off, nonsensical posts on here to realise it would, in a short time, devalue what the ISA is trying to acheive, I think.
