Me and the missus wandered through Brig on the day. I saw at least 3 new Rovers shirts. The local undertaker, Ian Wilde, provided a hearse and one car. The mayor of South Ribble was in the car decked out in his chain of office.  The first float had a group, "PR5",  playing. They were very good but one of their songs was "Take me home, Station Road". Station Road is the main road through t'Brig. The tune, unfortunately, is a Man Utd song.

The second float had some lovely dancing girls. I think Bamber Bridge FC had a lot to do with the organisation and it went really well. I didn't see any North End shirts. In the past there was always a good mixture of supporters for these events.

The hearse collected the coffin from The Trades Hall where someone read out a speech. The coffin was then transported through the village and back to The Withy Arms where it lay on display.

My wife commented that there weren't as many Rovers supporters as when the coffin was carried from The Fox and Hounds to The Aqueduct. She enjoyed that occasion. I explained that Brig is not Blackburn.

But, I'm glad that the old tradition has been resumed. Let's hope another resurrection, maybe a double one, takes place next summer. :rover:

Just to add Bamber Bridge amateur rugby league club carried the coffin. Took about an hour and a half in total walked back to the Hob Inn for a pint before catching the bus back to Whittle

I don't see too much of a difference between top and bottom of the championship. I also don't too much of a gap between the bottom of the premiership and the championship either.

There is too much emphasis put onto not losing games rather than winning by teams for too long.

I agree the one weakness the team lacks is pace but also think we need a signing in midfield and an attacker as well. The midfielder should be someone who has experience of this league but still has legs. Whittingham looked a good signing last season but his legs had gone. We have to be careful not to repeat this. Evans should have the experience by now but struggles to control games although I will say he has had poor players around him at times.

Forwards will be diffifcult to find in Rovers price range and this was Bolton's problem last year and looks like it will this year as well. This is why they were looking at Graham. Preston though have shown it is possible and the fact that Rovers were competing with North End for Boden last season suggests we are looking in similar places. We have the experienced striker in Graham so again should avoid signing another over 30 player to play there.

The problem with players with pace is that they rarely have an end product and are expensive. We saw several examples of players last season in League One who maybe able to step up and have been discussed here already but it will be a gamble.

The key to Rovers being a success next season, is keeping the momentum going but I can decide if its the worrying thing is that we never dominated sides last season or that it's a good thing we won because of the collective team spirit that usually won the day.

We did however blitz teams in twenty minute spells which put the games out of their reach. I would agree we never totally dominated for ninety minutes.

Because Hameed is in woeful form and even at best he's a 50 strike rate player which is nowhere near good enough for one day cricket.

Even Croft's scratchy 33 from 42 balls essentially lost the game.

Think it was more Mennies over which went for 20 towards the end of the Notts innings!

That was excellent, especially in those conditions ?

But...I also remember about five needless or clumsy heavy touches that went out for goal kicks and throw ins. Not a great game by him on Tuesday but a fantastic contribution since his arrival.

So good in parts excellent control when stationary not so good when on the run

  5. One of the standout memories of Tuesday night at Doncaster for me was Armstrong's instant control of a long diagonal ball he received near the corner flag in the second half. It was tied to his laces in an instant. Some top international players would struggle to control a ball like that. It produced gasps of admiration from the support and a round of applause.
