So in the last two or three years we've identified Wahlsted and Toth, both highly rated in their countries, but neither looking like an upgrade at the moment at least. The days of picking up the likes of Friedel on a free transfer are long gone. They are just not about in the modern game. The main issue with all keepers these days is they can't deal with corners and set pieces. They get blocked in on their line with the sheer amount of bodies in front of them, making it almost impossible to get to the ball.

Totally agree that an upgrade on Pears would be fantastic but unless someone can come up with a name within our budget that improves the GK position then we are stuck with him (unless he moves on) Toth hasn't impressed in the couple of games he's played although maybe he needs more game time in this league. If it's true that Adam Owen is having a say in the appointment of the new manager, then this recent link to Frederiksen makes a lot of sense. Frederiksen appointed Lech Poznan manager in May 2024 , a time when Owen was technical advisor at the club and no doubt had a say in his appointment. He then left a month or two later to join us.
