or the fact Karanka doesn't play young players

He's starting two 21 year olds today and has another on the bench. He brought Bamford at Boro as a 21 year old and he was Championship player of the season that year and Gibson was also a young player when he went to Boro who he played regularly. So it's not a fact that Karanka doesn't play youngsters.

Yes we should be buying Brereton. great potential and talent and will only get better here. .

Would you pay £8 Million for Brereton if it meant we had no funds to bring anyone else in during this window?

For me, we don't know centre midfielder but more a wide player.

agree on the centre back. I think we still in for Bauer and talking to Charlton about a deal.

I'd like a wide player as well  but Mowbray doesn't really seem very keen on natural wide men. In central midfield Davenport is injured, Smallwood has been playing poorly for months now, Evans is Evans, Travis is still raw and you can write of Whittingham and Gladwin. I'd like a dominant experienced body brought into the midfield as at the moment  we are very lightweight in there.

I we sign a player for £6 million in our circumstances he would have to be the first name on the team sheet every week and a player who was actually better than Dack, Mulgrew, Armstrong or Lenihan, not potentially better.

Indeed £6 million is a lot of money for this club to spend on potential. Forest paid around the same amount for Grabban who scored 20 Championship goal last season & Leeds only paid a million more for Bamford.

do you not think Rotherham, Ipswich, Birmingham, QPR, Hull City, plus a couple more have worst squad than our and quality?

It's not always the worst squads that go down though or the best squads that win things. Did we have one of the 3 worst squads when we went down? In my opinion no. Did Leicester have the best squad when they won the league? Again I would say no. But games of football aren't played on paper and our squad is only slightly better than the one that went down last time.

This sounds more likely to me than Wickham. There's no way we could afford Wickhams wages, probably could only manage around a third at most.

Palace probably aren't worried about his wages being paid by the another club they probably just want him to go out on loan and get some game time.

  9. In the week where Mowbray talked about bringing the fans back to Ewood a performance that won't live long in the memory of those that attended and one that won't be bringing back those who didn't attend. It was a performance that pretty much confirmed everything that we all ready knew, that we are desperately short up front, lack any genuine width and are light weight in the middle of the park.

To have such a weak squad two games into the season is very poor, you just looked at the bench today and Armstrong was the only name that you looked at and thought he could come on and win the game.

Another striker simply has to be brought in before the next game that has to be the priority the week. In his selection Mowbray has got to be more ruthless the likes of Bennett and Smallwood are good League 1 players but not good enough to be Championship starters. We look very lightweight in midfield with Evans and Smallwood (hopefully Davenport can be effective in their otherwise we need someone brought into put his foot in and try to dominate). Bennett I'm not sure what his best position is to me he is a jack of all trades, who you would have on the bench to come on and do a job but he's not a starter. Palmer looked good and shouldn't have been taken off although Rothwell did decent when he came but neither looked like natural wide men which is what we are crying out for, someone to run down the wing and put some crosses in for Graham.

Nice to see Bell get a start and I thought he was very solid. On the whole a point gained as Millwall could have been out of sight by half time.

Did Brereton only become available on the day or 2 before the transfer permanent window? I don't know. Did his agent phone clubs offering his services late yesterday before the deadline(a couple of hours before)? Just a thought.

on the centre back target? Is Mowbray only looking a loan deal for this position until he can sign Bauer in summer on a free.

Cos Mowbray can still bring in 3 loan players with 2 being loan with a view to permanent deal in January.

According to you Nicko (who I know you hold in high esteem) Brereton was as shocked as anyone about the deal, so that through that thought out of the window.

Why wait until the summer for Bauer when we need a centre half now and if he has an excellent season this year there will be bigger clubs than us pursuing him.

What make you think we are going to bring players in on loan with a view to a permanent? One when was the last time we did that with anyone? And two why would a club loan a player out when they can use him until January and then sell him? He's had 3 months to bring your 3 players in on permeants or loans don't get your hopes up that he will in the next few weeks.

There should be no excuses and no cliches imo. The window so far has been...underwhelming.

Do I think we’d go down with this squad? No? Is it better than the one which went down? Yes, I believe it is. Just about.

The squad is marginally better than the one that went down purely because of Dack however this is a stronger league than the year we went down it is probably the strongest Championship in a very long time. And the squad is not all that different to the one that went down, 7 of the 11 that started on Saturday were regulars in the team that got relegated along with Conway who came on as sub.

I would look at taking Anya from Derby or Pilkington from Cardiff on a loan with a view to permanent deal.

Striker wise, I would either get Gallagher from Southampton or Brereton from Forest on a loan deal with a view to permanent deal in January with fee already agree

In reality though you won't get anyone. Just like you didn't get any of the 3 permanent deals that you thought we were going to get this week.

I'm pleased with the signings he made. Armstrong at 1.75 million pounds with adds ons rising to 3 mil is a bargain and steal. Palmer is good loan signing and Davenport should be very good signing.

Would I like another striker, winger and centre back? of course but we could do that during the loan window.

As we haven't brought in any of those players during the last 3 months what makes you think that we are going to bring any of those positions during the next couple of weeks? And I thought you wanted an experienced back up goal keeper as well?

  14. 9 minutes ago, chaddyrovers said:

Yes I would have been delighted with either Brereton or Freeman signing. Why was it left so late? well a number of reasons cos clubs prices were unrealistic and over priced, Clubs wouldn't sell until they got their targets in 1st, player came available at the last day or 2 due not playing or being part of squad.

Mowbray got his Millwall pre match media conference tomorrow. I'm sure he will be asked

JH, sorry pal but you are fully of conspiracy theories at the minute. I used to fully enjoyed your posts on here but you have clearly change.

You said the other day that you expected 3 more permanent signings and told me that Gallagher would be in the squad on Saturday. What's gone wrong?
