can you tell us more about the player and they type of midfielder he is?

He's an excellent up and coming all round central defensive minded center midfielder.

Strong, likes to close down his opponents, get stuck in, excellent range of short and long range passing. Fast, composed and would certainly push Corry Evans. 6ft tall and has a high work rate.

This is a loan deal I would be against.United would want him playing, I doubt very much he would be available to buy at the end of the deal as is rated at United and we have enough young midfielders ourselves in Buckley, Davenport, Travis etc.

    I sort of agree.

It would have to be conditional on Mowbray choosing to play him unless he comes with a view to a permanent deal. A sort of "money where mouths are" concerned deal.

If Venkys are serious about investing in quality for the future, Garner is exactly what we should be going for.

Not yet fully discovered by brimming with talent.

Bit bemused we are looking at League One loans for Mulgrew. With their new wage cap in that league isn't the absolute max they can contribute 2.5k per week? On what is probably a 15-20k pw contract. Barely worth bothering. For now rather wait and make sure we get some CBs in and what happens with Williams.

    I'm not.

His career is coming to an end.

    He didn't impress at Wigan.

‘We’ aren’t looking for league 1 loans for him mate...that’s just the best he can get! I’m pretty sure if ‘we’ had the choice, we’d prefer City to offer £20m and have done with it!

    Indeed.

Same going for Williams. A couple of Champiomship teams interested. But most interest coming Stateside.

Wages are major issues in moving both on.

    Raya, Fisher, Leutwiler
Nyambe, Lenihan, Mulgrew, Williams, Grayson, P. Downing, Hart, Rodwell, Bell
Bennett, Chapman, Conway, Dack (up to his injury, was no question mark over fitness), Evans, Gladwin, Reed, Rothwell, Smallwood, Travis
    Graham, Armstrong, Samuel, Brereton, Nuttall

    vs

    Kaminski, Fisher, Eastham
Bennett, Nyambe, Lenihan, Mulgrew, Williams, Bell, Magloire, Wharton, Carter
Johnson, Chapman, Dack, Evans, Travis, Rothwell, Dolan, Buckley, Davenport, JRC, Holtby
    Armstrong, Gallagher, Brereton, Butterworth

Top squad finished 15th in the league. The bottom squad is supposedly doomed for relegation from day one? Give me a bleedin' break man!

Is worth noting the history of the above players be it injuries or relative progression from the academy with lack of experience.
Underlined denoted players who relatively recently progressed from the academy. Player who are red denotes a history (recent or historical) of injury plagued seasons.

There are a range of things to be concerned about this forthcoming season should nothing change in terms of incoming signings.

These are the issues I believe need addressing:
1- Lack of consistent forward goalscorer should one or both of Armstrong/Dack sustain lengthy injuries or hit a poor run of form. Gallagher, Brereton and Butterworth have no history of being consistent goalscorers to a degree that could keep them running for 6 months

2- Depth at the CB position. Should Williams and Mulgrew go as expected, it leaves us with Lenihan, Magloire and Carter from the above listed players with the likes of Travis/Nyambe capable of playing out of position, but not ideal

3- Right back. We have Nyambe who has fitness issues and Bennett when played out of position.

4- Left back. We have Bell and that is it really?

5- Wing options. Bennett, Chapman, Dolan, Buckley, Gallagher and Brereton. With our reduction in forward options, it should be expected that Gallagher and Brereton will be used out wide. That puts a high dependency on young heads to succeed on the wing.

6- To a lesser degree center-midfield. Our options are Johnson, Dack, Evans, Travis, Rothwell, Davenport, JRC, Holtby. Whilst many might argue this is a position we are most stocked in. I see a lot of players who have lengthy injury histories and again, young heads, topped off with a center midfielder who suffers from horrendous inconsistency.

From JoeH's list above. We have David Raya who played 46 games, Derrick Williams who played 29 games, Jack Rodwell who played 22 games, Charlie Mulgrew who played 31 games, Harrison Reed who played 36 games, Richie Smallwood who played 33 games, Craig Conway who played 26 games, Danny Graham who played 46 games, Joe Nuttall who played 18 games and Kasey Palmer (not on the list) who was on loan from Chelsea and played 17 games. That is 304 games played of players that are now not available to us.

Excluding the solitary new signing in our keeper, we have 214 appearances of players from last seasons players expected to depart. That is 214 appearances where Mowbray decided to play players we have either had end loan or Mowbray has deemed nolonger good enough or unable to sign a new contract to this season with no additions except for the keeper.

    Given context.

Not being able to complete signings this summer seems to be a running theme. What happened to our signing of D'Margio Wright-Phillips that was mooted at the end of last season?

I've been told he hasn't been training with us.

Also nothing on line about him moving to a club in Middle East so far.

i hope we bring him in.

didn't know you were football agent or transfer expert? My apologises

In fairness. No players have been training with us on trial etc.

Just our current crop including Mulgrew and Williams who we are actively trying to move on.

  6. This transfer window is getting silly.

So what I have been told is that Mowbray hasn't been given a budget as such. He has told the owners what he is looking for and they have told him to go to them and get sign off for each offer made. This means added waiting time as the owners agents investigate each potential transfer deal, the costs and legal implications.

    Something's got to give.

  7. Looking at how we are playing right now and who we are still expecting to be at the club come mid-season. I still think we are a GK, a LB, 2 CB's and a LM/RM.

Fisher clearly isn't good enough as a number 2 keeper.

We have talented CB's who need loan games to gain experience and with Derrick Williams and Charlie Mulgrew likely soon to be departing that leaves us with Hayden Carter, Darragh Lenihan, Scott Wharton and Tyler Magloire. Only one of those players is anywhere near good enough.

Bell isn't good enough. Nothing more needs adding. Who else do we play at LB?

I really do worry about playing Gallagher and Brereton out of position. Bennett for me doesn't provide enough goals or assists. Again where does that leave us?

We have to get out of the habit of playing players out of position and even with that taking place that leaves us tight upfront. If Mowbray insists on playing forwards on the wing, then that leaves us short at least a striker.

Haven't even mentioned the apparent interest in bringing in a RB.

According to the commentary our defending is open, reckless and naive.

    Has been.

Fisher's possession if the ball would be suicidal in the Championship.

Embarrassing stuff. Williams just hoofed the ball into the chest of Bradley Johnson in his own area.

Seems to be plenty of dropped heads in the Rovers lineup. We look devoid of defensive organisation and offensive spark.
