Happy for Williams to go regardless because even at the moment I would play Wharton over him but obviously we are assuming that we can get a couple in which selling Williams may help to facilitate.
I am not a fan of Williams by any means. But I really don't get his statement.
Is it a strong desire to see the lad do well over all evidence to the contrary?
I haven't seen anything to warrant a belief that he would walk into the team and do better than Williams?
Sure. We need to ditch Williams because his wages are high for our financial position. But to suggest Wharton is better than Williams is questionable at best.

Because he only became available at a financially achievable level recently.
8 hours ago, JacknOry said:Not convinced Kaminski is someone we have been chasing really - might have been on a list somewhere but he was bought for 2 mil a season and a half ago. Think him being transfer listed at a cheap price after his cock-kicking exploits sort of fell into our laps at the right time.
We have been interested in him for at least 12 months.
Fans turned on him due to a couple of mistake and the clash with another player.
Think the board chose to ditch him swiftly to keep the fans onside after an appalling start to the season.
Note: Gent performances haven't improved regardless of the keeper being dropped. Issues run deeper. Keeper departure scapegoat distraction will only go so far. I expect Rovers to benefit should the keeper concentrate on his time at Rovers and not worry about the last 3 months or so.

About the same.
Note European Football performances.
5 hours ago, bluebruce said:Wales Online article says we want a 7-figure fee for Williams! If Swansea are signing Lowe and can no longer afford him, we need to drop that valuation pronto...
That might be the initial asking price. The final sale fee would be lower in the six figure spectrum.
Swansea's interest seems to have been fleeting however. Although I expect Williams and Mulgrew to go regardless before the window slams shut.
2 hours ago, Amo said:Whose bright idea was it to give Mulgrew a 2½ year deal in the first place, seeing as he was untested at Championship level?
Only way to get him in the training complex. At the time his signing was essential. Problem with Mulgrew is he is a better midfielder technically than he is a defender, but he doesn't have the legs for midfield or the concentration or tracking for defence.

Bit of info. Tip off by somebody who usually concentrates on Premier League data, but heard it on the grapevine.

Aleix García might be a name that Mowbray is considering to bolster our midfield.

Both plus academy feedback.

What are the chances of it being a permanent deal though?
Somewhere from 0%-0.1%
Just trying to illustrate the point that when you are offered talent you otherwise wouldn't have access to, bite.

Disappointed if we sign this Garner on loan.
Pointless getting in the way of our youths to develop someone else's youth.
I wouldn't be.
He's a brilliant player.
In a perfect world it would be nice if we could get him with a view to signing him permanently.
We don't have anything like him of his quality in the U23's.

Morgan Gibbs-White is an unreal signing for Swansea. Will be one of the best midfielders in the league I reckon.
Cracking signing.
If he plays to full potential they will be in the running for promotion.

Keeper should sign in the next 48 hours.
Mowbray wants another keeper, 2 CB's and a left back.
Doesn't see the need for another striker.
Hope's Downing will re-sign.

Logically they could afford neither, particularly Williams. Anyway, Mulgrew left there last season because things didn't work out.
New manager might change that.

Wonder if Wigan would be interested in signing Derrick Williams or Charlie Mulgrew? We could involve either in a player plus cash swap deal for Cédric Kipré, and both have valuable experience getting a team up from League One to the Championship.
Hell, offer both in swap for the lad, Wigan only have 15 players of 1st team pedigree on the books. They might need the numbers.
Granted wages could be a stumbling block (see Mulgrew with Portsmouth).

It is when you consider our alternatives.
We simply CANNOT sell Armstrong.
If we lose Armstrong or Dack to injury it leaves us relying on Gallagher, Brereton, Vale and Butterworth as our primary goal threats.
It's not like we have midfielders who can chip in with goals. When you play players in their actual positions in midfield it gives us 14 goals total last season. If as I said we lose Dack and Armstrong. We have 8 goals upfront last season.
25 goals. Madness.
6 minutes ago, briansol said:I have no problem with that on account that we have a lot of other positions to fill. Samuel and Graham didn't to much last season, and it opens up for Vale and Butterworth.
My main concern is if we lose Dack and Armstrong. Where do our goals come from?

If he's another attacking centre mid surely we are selling someone? We've got four already - Dack, Holtby, Rothwell, Buckley.
Maybe to allow Dack to move on?
If I were an optimist. I would hope he was relaxing Smallwood or Downing.

Remind me how many Friedels we've signed in the past 12 years.
Jason Brown, Paul Robinson, Mark Bunn, Grzegorz Sandomierski and Simon Eastwood at the quality they were when we signed them would walk into the current Rovers team.

31 minutes ago, bluebruce said:You talk like a man who has seen a fair bit of him or is well aware of his reputation/game. If so, any info on his strengths and weaknesses?
I have watched an awful lot of European football and knew of him earlier in his career.
If memory served he is good with his goal kicks and long range saves. Decent at commanding his area. No weaknesses come to mind however he will have them I'm sure.

Where's the £500k come from? It was reported that Totally Wicked had increased their sponsorship. That's where I think the money has come from. Or Barrow paid £500 for Platt, which seems unlikely.
Westwood's the other goalie mentioned. He's out of favour at Wednesday and is wanted off their books. We ought to be able to get him on a free.
I've not seen any reports of any announcement form Venkys. I suppose it can be left until monthly payroll is due, whenever that is.
He's wanted off the books as he is on £30,000 a week.
Thomas Kaminski will be coming to play 1st team football. Westwood wouldn't come on high wages to play second fiddle. Put money on the 2nd goalkeeper coming up from League One/Two or obscurity to prove himself from Europe. It would seem Mowbray is looking to the European scouting network to pay off.

The European scouting network have pulled off a blinder with Thomas Kaminski if we tie up this transfer and as far as I am concerned it knocks Walton out the water.
Highly rated keeper with vast experience always on the fringes of his national team with a full plate of International youth credentials in his past.
If you'd asked me if we could sign this lad a week ago for anything short of £3 million I would have laughed at you.
£500,000 is a bargain! He's one of two goalkeepers Rovers are looking to sign and should be in for a medical in coming days with fee agreed with his club.
This keeper could be in for 6-7 years if he impresses. Exciting!

Mowbray's transfer wishlist is being depleted in front of his eyes and there is nothing he can do about it with owners completely unwilling to pledge money for transfers or wages even with player departures already taken place.
Dire situation.

I seem to be in the minority, but I didn't thng that much of Cunningham when he was here. If the bar is 'are they better then Bell and Del' then it's a pretty low standard.
He was adequate. Adequate only gets you so far.
In other news I heard on the grapevine that Rovers might be interested in Conor Gallagher on loan from Chelsea.
