This is why it should be pretty straightforwards the bar isn't very high there Bell is a league 1 wide attacking midfielder  ability wise trying to play as a Championship wing back.

Tommy Spurr was a standard mid level left back and despite a chronic lack of pace was much better than Bell so surely there's similar out there.

Calvin Verdonk (released by Feyenoord), Brad Smith (released by Liverpool) and Stephen Kingsley (released by Hull City) would all be good options for Rovers.

Personally would love to see us take a look at Calvin Verdonk.268320.jpg.193a7c33f3e99a8f0a1f8a22774827d7.jpg

May have misunderstood here, but are you talking about Edwards? If so, he signed a 4 and a half year contract with Stoke less than 12 months ago.

Thought his contract was expiring. Stand corrected.

    Granted beggars can't be choosers.

Edwards isnt very good. Stoke fans would be glad to see the back of him and have questioned his professionalism in the past. Also, right back isnt the priority at the moment.

It seems that we are focusing on Stokes reserves at the moment which surely is a haven of defensive quality, right?

The days tick by towards that first game and as per last year, closing in on the new season, the defence remains untouched. I have settled for the fact that Bell and Wharton will start on the opening day.

Because he's refusing to sign a new contract.

Without this we wouldn't be able to afford him.

He signs a new contract. We can't sign him.

He refuses to sign a new contract. We shouldn't sign him because he has a bad attitude.

Anybody want to remind themselves how we signed Dack for £500,000. Would any of us have rejected him as he "has a bad attitude" for not signing a new contract?

Not sure why we even want to look at RB yet, let alone a non-British non-defender.

    CB and LB please!

It says in the article that Nyambe has been having fitness issues and could leave at the end of this season as his contract is expiring. Surely best to plan ahead when an opportunity arises.

You only deal in extremes I think! Mowbray has been here for around 3.5 years now. If he was a good manager, given the amount he's spent on players we ought to have been promoted by now? Or at least been in the mix. We have never got close. Its not a matter of him never doing anything wrong or never doing anything right, its a matter of looking at our progress under him over that period. Its glacial isn't it? We are as far away from the Premier League as ever.

Bowyer found way more bargains than Mowbray did but they were sold under him. Dyche had Burnley up in the time Mowbrey's been here  or very close.

Time to critically assess the Club under Mowbray rather than just reacting in provocative bewilderment all the time.

I believe , on all the evidence, that he will never get us up. For you, it really is a matter of how long you are prepared to give him, assuming there's a Club left by then.

Bowyer found more bargains because he was playing at a lower level.

Once promoted the vast majority of the players, even the better ones, have been found insufficient for Championship level. In fact the academy players have fared better in most instances.

The good players we signed under Bowyer were sold off bar one or two players. Carney and Gestede were his successes. Whilst current squad wise Corry Evans is about his only legacy.

How can you possibly include the lads from Celtic and Preston as signings? Etc...

Because they are by definition signings?

8 of our 1st team options are from the academy. Players progress often to be better players than ready made signings.

Some people just like to have a whinge and get hurried transfer business with no decent preparation or research. I would have thought people would have had enough of that which we endured in the Kean years? Apparently not. Just splurge goodness knows what money on names on a sheet as opposed to measured useful signings.

Give me well researched and budgeted players over hurried signings any day!

According to the LT we fought off competition from the Premier league for the lad from Celtic.

    You couldn't make it up.

    But somebody did.

Southampton and Palace were after him apparently.

I would like Nat Phillips on loan, if it means we could sign a decent left back! He is sort of local as well!

Personally would prefer he came in on a long-term deal as our second needed centre back. Naby Sarr as the first maybe?

I think this transfer window is now becoming an utter and complete embarrassment for Mowbray and Waggott.

Eight days until the new season kicks off and just wtf are we!?

    @Paul Mani still eulogising?

The transfer window has been open for what? 36 days? In that time we have a new number one keeper on a longterm deal, a highly promising winger who is pushing for 1st team recognition already, have signed a promising young forward on a free, have made offers for players that haven't panned out (it happens), have made headway in moving on high earners who aren't pushing for 1st team selection as much as they should be and have clearly set out what we are looking for in budget without being bullied by player or other clubs.

I would rate Mowbray and co's success at present a B-

What have you all seen of Curtis Jones other than a few goals in one of the best teams in the best? Gunna have a much easier time scoring in a time like that

Numerous U23 performances. He is highly talented. We can't afford him.

Phillips ticks all the Rovers boxes so would be no surprise to see him turn up here.

    - Young

    - Inexperienced

    - Only a handful of senior appearances

    - Cheap

    - Loan

Liverpool likely to be happy to do a deal. He's 23 and never played for them so probably one eye on a future elsewhere.

Could be the making of him.

Don't think it would be a loan.

Seems pretty obvious West Brom are stringing Kipre along. If I was him I'd tell them to do one.

West Brom mulling move for Cedric Kipre

By Matt Maher | West Bromwich Albion | Published: Less than an hour ago

Albion will weigh up their options before deciding whether to pursue a move for Wigan defender Cedric Kipre.

HLU7YM6LO5EZNGAXBJTRYPNK4E.jpg Cedric Kipre of Wigan Athletic blocks a shot from Matheus Pereira of West Bromwich Albion (AMA)

The Baggies have held talks over the 23-year-old and are increasingly confident it is a deal they can get done.

But they are expected to check on other targets before pushing ahead. Blackburn are believed to have agreed a fee of £900,000 for Kipre but the player would prefer a Premier League move and Albion may offer one.

Sporting director Luke Dowling is determined to get the maximum from what is a relatively tight budget as Albion prepare for a top flight return.

In addition to Kipre, talks have also taken place with Brighton over defender Shane Duffy and goalkeeper David Button. The Seagulls want around £1million for the latter, though the Baggies are hoping to agree a lower fee. Albion will also decide this week whether to push ahead with a move for Watford striker Troy Deeney, while they remain in discussions with Benfica over another loan deal for midfielder Filip Krovinovic.

Genuinely staggering. Medical yesterday. Completed. Player been told to wait whilst WBA work on deals for potentially better players.

He must know sooner or later that he won't be near the 1st team if he signs for them.

Rovers have agreed a fee and also made an offer of contract to player pending a medical. He would be a Rovers player within hours of the medical.

He is a fool if he puts himself through this. Maybe it is better for himself if he calls himself a Premier League footballer but never actually plays rather than a Championship player who actually plays week in week out. Money and profile is key these days.

At £1m (Charlton's supposed asking price)... No. I can't imagine either Kaminiski nor Phillips being happy to sit on the bench - or even share the role.

Guess that depends whether we have incoming money from sales.

They won't get a million for him. Half that is more likely and that is where we are capable.

How nice will it be to have 2 1st team quality keepers though.

How does it ‘damage’ Rovers if someone is negative on a message board?

    Two fold.

    1. Duffy has a sell on clause so Rovers would be eligible for funds should he move on a long term deal

    2. WBA were supposedly after Duffy which people think would mean would end there interest in Kipré.

WBA would happily sign both however.
