Johnson has been pretty anonymous in his two starts - Davenport is a better player at this stage of their careers.

As for the players - the further we've slipped down the football pyramid the more forgettable they've become for me. I became very attached to a lot of our Prem teams - this lot I'd sell at the right price (and replace 90% of them if we got promoted).

Johnson battled hard, and is great in the air. Davenport is very poor imo.

Neither good enough for first team imo.

Swift at Reading is the best CM in the league but whether we'd be able to afford him is another matter. I was surprised to see Reading fans saying he could go for as little as £2m. He's their top scorer and tops the assist chart for the championship.

Wow! He'd be great.  And improve our free kick taking top

My argument would be, prior to this season, he's never been given a fair run to establish himself.  He was in and out, shunted here and shunted there.

It was clear to me from day one the lad had real talent and could excite the fans.  When you have a talent like that, you nurture and give lots of tlc and then you end up with something special and a player who recognises what you've done for them.

When you think of some of the nonentities who've curried favour with Mowbray and the way he's looked after them, it's a real sickener.

    Talented but was never consistent.

He's very good. However I'm clearly no longer in the same universe I was in last season if people genuinely think he is better, let alone much better, than the lad who got one of the highest assists totals in the league last season. I've no idea why him and Reed were used as examples of poor loans in the post I quoted, rather than say Walton and Douglas, but it only reinforces my new alternate reality theory...

    He is infinitely more important.

The reason why we are better without £15 million Armstrong and whatever Elliot is worth.

Can't help but think we are in for a repeat of Januarys past. Lots of talk about multiple deals being worked on, expecting 2-3-4 arrivals, no plans to let anyone important leave and then come deadline day we get the usual Rich Sharpe tweet about tea time 'that will be it, not expecting anything else'

I would hope with the rewards on offer and position we are in would change things and see us get stuff done but I'll believe it when I see it.

Remember a transfer window is only a success if you actually strengthen and get better. Trying but failing to get better is not the same.

Zeefulk is a great signing; Hedges possibly too. And hard luck with the young lad from Tottenham. I certainly am not disappointed.

“Any loan signings should benefit Rovers more than, or as much as they benefit the player. Van Hecke is proving to be a much better loan signing than Reed or Elliott, we look to finally have cracked it.”

Elliott’s spell with us did wonders for his Liverpool career, but not a great deal for us as a club.

Talented as they are, Elliot, like Armstrong, offered absolutely nothing defensively.

Every player we have now gets stuck in and gives all for the team.

    None whatsoever.

Tell Bournemouth/Brentford/whoever to fook off (figuratively speaking) and business as usual Tuesday.

Nothing personal it's just business. You can't blame other Clubs for wanting our best players.

A massive difference. We are in direct competition. It's pretty much cheating in my book.

You cannot underestimate how much Rothell simply dislikes Mowbray. All the mismanagement, being dropped, weird interview comments have undoubtedly added up to this point.

    Tony's criticism help improve Rothwell.

Wasn't mismanagement, it was Joe not living up to his potential.

This is the first year he has.

I keep reading that he's a winger - does anyone who has seen him play more have a handle on how he would be likely to fit into our system?

I had a suspicion he could be played as cover at left wing back, and Edun moved to defensive midfield as cover for Trav.

Hedges looks pretty robust, think he's bought for his versatility.

I am just asking when you have seen evidence that Rankin Costello is a good attacking wing back. You question Nyambe's assist numbers, fair enough, but where is the evidence that Rankin Costello is a good attacking wing back, aside from a decent cross v Reading last season?  I get that its your opinion, but are there examples that you can think of regarding his supposed attacking prowess.

Thats putting to one side the fact that you are solely obsessing about the attacking side of being a wing back, never acknowledging the importance of being able to defend still, which Nyambe is very good at, proving as much in our good run of form, being out of the team with Rankin Costello covering in the only loss in that time.

Last season he showed plenty, and the season before. Both at fullback. He even did a decent job for us at left back. His versatility will be handy for us.

JRC is not a wingback/ Full back.Nyambe superior

You have hardly seen Zeefuik, a decent cameo granted.

You seem to think because the manager prefers JRC then it must be right. You wanted him out yourself last season

JRC should be an excellent wing back.

You speak about jumping the gun with Zeefuik, but right off  the rusty JRC after one game, when the problem was we had no defensive midfielder.

Anybody else feel that we kind of need to go up 2nd as we would buckle in the playoffs? I don’t see us holding up to the pressure of that personally.

who do you fear up the top?

for me Bournemouth with Parker in charge, I don’t see them getting too 2. West Brom seem to be lacking too. So for me I fear boro, forest and qpr seem to be grinding out results with lots of late winners, hopefully that bubble bursts but they seem to be able to keep it going

I think with us scoring the second most goals and now having the best defence 2nd place is there for the taking.

Yes, the lottery of the playoffs would be scary.

I had £300 on us at 11/1 for promotion at the start of the season, so I'd take 2nd. 🙂

Its not Waggot that makes that decision, its the owners!

Looking at it subjectively, Rothwell is not as good as what Bournemouth already have, Billing, Lerma, Christie, cook and the mercurial Marcondes. He wont unseat any of these players. Anthony and Solanke up front can both play wide or central. Lowe and Rodgers are also a pair of decent forwards who can play Rothwells role. So, if you aks me he has his work cut out even more than he ever did at Ewood and on top of all that are Bournemouth better than us?

Bournemouth have better players than us indeed, it's their poor manager that is the problem. Would be a massive risk for Joe to leave.

Better to give promotion a shot and keep all the players.

Personally £7 million would be my figure for Joe And £5 million for Nyambe.

£28 million for BBD would be fair enough.
