The fact that it’s being allowed to happen is surely such a positive , there are so many clues about the truth . As ever Money is boss .
behind closed doors won’t be for too long anyway -

On the face of it, yes, but look what happened to all those cruise ships, left out to see for weeks with nobody wanting them to dock.
You wouldn't catch me on one for at least a couple of years until a vaccine is found.
That won’t last . So many small islands rely on the revenue the ships generate . I’ve no issue with going on one at all as long as it’s allowed .

Oh right .

On cruise ships people are always washing and sanitizing hands. You learn very early on not to touch handrails or lift buttons with your hands if you can possibly avoid it. There is hand sanitizer at the entrance to every restaurant and once, when I went into a restaurant having sanitised my hands , the girl behind the plates(it was a buffet) wouldn't let me take a plate until I did it again. They are so worried about norovirus outbreaks that it wouldn't take much adaptation to be ready
Yes one of the big American lines are really capitalising on that and are 600 percent up on sales for August .
I asked my dad who is 80 odd if it bothered him at all going . He said no he’s more concerned he and I will kill each Other on the long flight to Houston ( we get on but he’s never done a flight that long and he can be impatient ) -

We've a Fijords/Northern Lights cruise booked on the Queen Victoria in October - I'm really hoping that it goes ahead as this is one for my bucket list.
You have a very good chance if any element of the travel industry is already set up to deal with this especially now we know what is going on it’s the cruises . A lot of the American lines are setting up to get the ball rolling in mid July .
If you can’t go they seem very flexible for potential rearrangement -

We went for Norway first time, then the Baltic including St Petersburg last year.
I’m just a bit apprehensive, it’s such a short time to spend in each place

Sorry. I cant spell! Too used to writing Brittany. Britannia is a P and O cruise ship.
Oh I see , it can be a mixed experience when it’s a name over the door restaurant . Eg Tom Kerridge in mcr etc , they tend never to last . I’m going on my first ever cruise soon , it’s an American ship , Daniel bolud and Tomas Keller have restaurants there . I’ve been to their flagship restaurants, I don’t expect the same ( not saying you did ) . I think a chef should for the most cook his resto . Michael I hate doesn’t do sat nights at his somewhat overrated eponymous place . Madness

I've always fancied going to Lasan, but not made it yet - https://lasan.co.uk/
I'm pretty traditional when it comes to curry, I like all varieties with a couple of beers, but fine dining? I'm not sure?
I’ve been to an akhtar Islam obsession , the pairing involved wine beer and gin

Loads of good ones IB, some really good street food places also.
Birmingham has really upped its game in the last 10/15yrs for me.
Mughli was good for street food just past the academy but really went down hill

I know this is a bit random, but whilst in Dallas a few years back I was craving a curry and found a small place near the Galleria Mall. I wasn't expecting to much but I have to say its possibly one of the best Indian meals I've had and I've had plenty!
I'd been in the states for 5wks at the time so maybe that played a part, very unassuming place but great.
That’s pretty strange as I’ve had superb curries in both Houston and Warsaw . The latter turned out to be a guy from Sydenham . I’ve had some shockers in The Indian sub continent .
diners drive ins and dives is a good show , if you can see past the daft presenter there’s a lot of good every day immigrant food that America is built upon . It’s not all daft portions and with some stuff they are just as good as is and I include cheese now , everyone has their strong suits though and they just can’t do chocolate but we can’t do chicken or bbq

Garners it wasn't a dig at all.
I was going to book for California and New York next year so I could watch my 1st LA Lakers game live and go to various places in LA and New York. Could I DM to find out your experiences of California please?
You are right about the Buffet restaurants. Not a fan of Northcote food.
What’s not to like about it ? The good quality /service or skill?

This is all well off-topic but....
I could play a one-upmanship card and say I think I've been to 45 out of the 50 states, which I have, but that would be giving a false impression - most of them I was passing through on a Greyhound bus in 1973. Since then I've spent a holiday or two and two conferences in Florida, quite a bit of time in California when my son was doing an internship there and recently spent a bit of time in New England and the Pacific North West. The best food I had whilst in San Diego was lunches we had by driving into Mexico.
The latter was where I had the best food but I don't think I've ever had a meal in the US which was as good as anything I've eaten at Northcote.
Outside breakfast I wouldn't go to a buffet restaurant anywhere.
I’m similar in that I’ve been to a lot of states but not for long , I have however spent significant time in ny city / state , Chicago and Texas and eaten very well .
Northcote is very very good and I go fairly regularly but I’ve had superb meals at
monofuku ko , le Bernardin, 11 Maddison park , contra , wildair and more in New York , the french laundry in the napa valley and Alinea in Chicago that are a level of two above

I've been to Lazy Bear, straight off the plane from London, jet lagged and didn't enjoy it at all, but that was no reflection on the food, I'm told it was great.
In terms of neighbourhoods I mean Little Italy, The Mission district for Mexican food, Pacific Heights/Lower pacific heights, more neighbourhood places where the locals eat rather than Union Square and the Pier (Which are fine by the way).
Love the city, but we digress.
Yes I see what you mean . Have you Been to golden boy pizza ?
re lazy bear toy would need to be in the mood as you are investing into an idea as well .

Don’t get me wrong, the way they cook and prepare food means it’s delicious.
Whilst at uni I had a fling with a girl from New Orleans. She made my 2nd year, 2nd semester a very happy place. American food in terms of taste is infinitely better than English food. Even they admit the standards it is produced in is shocking though.
Funnily enough, the whole American exchange crew ended up having a thing for “John Smiths”. For whatever reason yanks could not get enough of real ales, IPAs, Guinness etc that kinda drink. Bit off on a tangent but it always confused me. As an Englishman you are not used to seeing a group of stunning girls turn up to a house party with a crate of John Smiths.
That sort of thing re the beers is huge in America now , I noticed this particularly in Austin and Memphis recently

Never had a bad meal in the States and I've been all over the country.
Florida/Orlando is very different to most other places in States, it caters for mass tourism on a fast food basis, but is still very good quality in my experience.
Neighbourhood restaurants in San Francisco are some of the best in the world, the place is a culinary delight if you avoid the tourists traps.
I’ve been to sf , when you say ‘neighbourhood ‘ do you mean the farm to table scene ? We went to lazy bear which was great 2 x m star

Some real sweeping statements about American food ... what parts have you been to ? Some of the most decadent restaurants I’ve been to are in New York , and in places like Texas and New Orleans the bbq/ chicken is just as fantastic but in a different way .
mid you are talking about Vegas then I agree . Food was poor there but it is an appalling place full stop -
